The Military Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Damn.

Wouldn't giving Russia an hour, essentially be giving them time to warn Syria to clear out its jets?

We could have told them that if they leaked it to the Syrians and we saw them moving anything, we'd launch immediately.

To which guys are you referring? We don't have significant ground forces in Syria -- maybe 60 or so -- and the guys there had to deal with the same issues already of identifying who was coming over the hill.

I like it. Lots of missiles, very fast with minimal consultation, targeted on the right place.

There are a lot more than 60 of our guys in Syria.

I left off a zero by accident....

About 600 or so ground combat guys, not counting spec ops as well. And the problems they had last week are no different than the ones they have now.

I really don't want to get involved in any extended conflict. One of the reasons I voted for Trump was his Nationalism/Isolationism sentiments.

However, I do like this specific escalation. Limited casualties, a direct and measured response... All while eating dinner with the Chinese president.

Coupled with his prior statements I think this is a message to everyone... "We really just want for you to do you and me to do me... But don't forget who has the big dick around here."

Well except now they may have the Syrian Army gunning for them. It can also lead to increased friction with the Russians, particularly if we engage Syrian units with Russian troops attached to them.

That is a substantial difference if Assad decides to be stupid.

But, I don't think he will. Hopefully, this surgical strike is the end of it.

I know I am an outsider but I supported Trump over Hillary due to his sound non-interventionist policies that wouldn't bring the world to its knees especially towards Syria. Now I know he's a damn idiot for believing Assad did the stupid chemical attack meme WHILE he's on the verge of winning against the dirty Jihadis.

Our guys are primarily working with the Kurds against ISIS, around Al Raqqa. I'll eat my shorts if either Assad or Putin wants to escalate this by directly engaging U.S. troops. It's the classic escalation/brinksmanship situation where the party that acts first wins, because nobody is willing to escalate beyond that point.

Those missiles, fired without consultation with anyone else and without seeking international approval or permission, were heard in more places than just Damascus. And had we done nothing, that probably would have gotten even more notice, and not the good kind.

It seems as though they have really solid satellite evidence that the gas was delivered by Syrian Air Force planes. While I'd agree that a false-flag operation is possible in some circumstances, particularly when delivered by artillery, this doesn't seem to be one of them.

I highly doubt this. Whoever is in cahoots with the terrorists have done the same in 2013 and the only difference now is the media is selling it real harder and the POTUS believed it. Unless they count AQ and Soros-liked groups such as the White Helmets and the damned governments of Turkey and Israel as veritable sources then there is nothing to discuss. It doesn't help that Mattis has a real hard on for destabilizing the region just to spite IRI.

Trumps approval rating will go up because of this. The neocons and mainstream media is now stroking trump.

This is what I am afraid of. He didn't have to strike the legitimate government of Syria. And I thought Obama was an abomination for indirectly helping the moderate beheaders. People will now rejoice because they're too ignorant to break free of the liberal presses.

Hillary Clinton actually called today for striking Assad's airfields.

I don't support a policy of regime change. But the actual use of chemical weapons, particularly after they swore to the U.S. that they were all gone and wouldn't be used again, is something that I do think deserved a strong response.

I somehow don't think the SecDef and other professionals formed their recommendations based on press report as to who was responsible. If you disagree, fine. I just think they have a lot more information available to them than do either we or the press.

I'm a little disappointed but we still shouldn't worry yet.
