The New York Knicks Trash Fire Thread!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
You make reasonable points...I just disagree that Oakley is in the wrong here. I certainly agree that Oak committed assault. But context is important too. Surrounding Oak with eleven security guards preemptively is essentially putting him in an unconforfable position where such a reaction is to be expected. This isn't the first time Dolan has had security surround Oak at the Garden.

I also don't see why it's wrong for an ex-player to be critical of a horribly run franchise. Magic was super critical of Jim Buss and now Jeanie is actually bringing him into the organization. Dolan on the other hand has excluded Oak from all the 75th Anniversary Knicks celebrations while honoring lesser players who had unremarkable Knicks tenures. Dolan has all but made it uncomforable for Oakley to watch games at the arena. Dolan has thin skin and an absurd ego.

I will admit that I am biased though. I love Charles Oakley and despise Dolan.

Awesome, thanks for clearing that up for me!

Ya, I don't dislike Oakley, he always played w/ a lot of heart. Clearly there's a lot of history here, because no, you don't just show up w/ that much security w/o there being some prior issues.

At the same time, if someone asks the question, "Hey, how many security guards can I bring to escort you from your seat that WON'T result in you assaulting the staff?", you probably have an issue already.

Ex players can be critical, absolutely, it's their right as it is yours to complain about the team and its direction. Eric Dickerson had the same right in LA. However, I feel it's naive to expect a warm welcome, ticket comps, or anything else if the pretense of your relationship has become something negative.

In other words, you can complain all you want about my cooking and how bad it sucks, just don't be upset when I don't invite you over for Thanksgiving. :)

And the Charles Oakley rocky relationship with your ownership is similar to Bernie Kosar’s rocky relationship with the Browns...without the physical confrontation part lol

I agree that maybe the Knicks legacy is a little overrated. There are at least four franchises with more "prestige" than the Knicks: Lakers, Celtics, Bulls, and Spurs. You could throw in the Sixers too for the great players they've had, and even the Heat and Pistons for the fact that they won more chips.
Another major reason I want the Cavs to repeat...so we can say we have as many titles as the "prestigious" Knicks :chuckle:

You could throw in the Sixers too for the great players they've had, and even the Heat and Pistons for the fact that they won more chips. But that still doesn't change the fact that the Knicks are a noteworthy franchise with lots of memorable players and coaches, including at least ten hall of famers off the top of my head.

Some posters asked why people talk about the Knicks. It's really simple. You have a franchise with a rich history in a city that absolutely loves basketball...but the franchise just totally sucks and has for 17 years. The Knicks have all the natural advantages of a team primed to succeed: awesome arena, rich owner willing to spend, biggest media market in the world, and devoted fans that show up no matter how bad the team is. And yet inexplicably we continue to make the worst decisons as a franchise ranging from who we hire to make basketball decisions to who we acquire as players.

It's compelling to follow in the same way a horror movie is: sure the main character seems to have it all but you are just waiting for the other shoe to drop and for the monster (aka Dolan) to show up and ruin the main character's life.

I probably missed it, but i respect your opinion, what is your opinion on the Oakley/Dolan situation

Dolan never talks to the media. This will get interesting. @ACisKING give us a recap lol.

Even taken with a grain of salt, and considering that this is coming from people in direct competition with Jackson I still think this speaks volumes to the way he has chosen to handle the 'Melo situation. In the words of a Knicks fan on reddit:

"I've tried rationalizing what Phil has been doing with all these passive aggressive tweets at Melo. At first it seemed clear that he was trying to force Melo out, but it's been obvious for some time now that it isn't going to work. And now, the media is taking Melo's side so it's actually served to take the pressure off of him.

So I thought, maybe Phil's master plan is to keep Melo and he's hoping that questioning Melo's competitiveness and all the trade rumors will light a fire under his ass?

But the thing is, why light a fire under Melo's ass? They're not good enough to sniff a championship. Whether Melo is on the team or not, NYK is better off tanking to get one of those elite PGs in this years draft to put next to Porzingis.

All Phil has accomplished is to stir up a firestorm that has been a PR disaster for NYK. The fans, many of whom agree NYK needs to move on from Melo, are now so pissed off at Phil and Dolan that they're mostly giving Melo a pass. None of it makes any sense as far as I can tell."

@ACisKING let me know if you got a good stream for tonight's game, I want to see this...

This is what League Pass was invented for. So glad I have it.

Oh my god...what the fuck

I would assume Mr Dolan fears of his life now when around Oakley. He probably even has a restraining order.

I'm sure Dolan also got wind of what Oakley said about possibly poisoning him if he ever cooked a diner for Dolan.

People need to really consider boycotting the Knicks games... Dolan is an awful person, but he might have a mental issue himself. Just embarrassing for the franchise. Dolan is fighting a battle without realizing by winning the battle, he's losing the war (credit to Woj for that).

This has been an absolutely unmitigated pr disaster for the Knicks. Tons of contradictions, everything caught on tape, Dolan losing face and having to show up for the media... This is bad. First the Knicks announce that Oakley was abusive and insinuated that he was having some sort of alcohol problem at the very least, Then they further try to discredit him after he speaks up against them. Then, out of the thin blue air like Athena from Zeus's forehead, they all of a sudden decide that they are going to sacrifice their head of security as some sort of scapegoat because of the fan backlash in order to appear to take some of the blame and THEN(!!!) they once again go back BAN CHARLES OAKLEY after firing their own head of security!!???

Oakley getting tossed the other night will be the closest thing to Knicks 90's basketball they'll ever get again.

Sadly, I feel bad for NY for once... What a mess that no fan should endure.
