Game of Thrones prequel series still in talks, HBO says

YEEEEEESSSSSS

Seems like a no-brainer if you can find a half-decent showrunner willing to take on the project. There's enough history in that World of Ice and Fire encyclopedia for a dozen prequels. One thing to note as well is that a prequel would give a showrunner a lot more freedom to explore outside the boundaries of book narratives, which might make the job more appealing to someone who doesn't want to follow a more strict blueprint. Like, with Robert's Rebellion you have a bunch of notes to hit, but a lot more freedom with the details than the Game of Thrones show had early on (before they split more from the books in season five).

Finally caught up to the S6 finale.

RIP Queen Margaery

I haven't been in this thread much, if at all, but this show is absolutely fantastic, and I of course find myself rooting for the Starks because of my surname.

I'm really curious about which of the major characters are going to be around near the end, as I feel like this is a show where they are going to butcher off a good two-thirds of the main characters we have before the finale.

I definitely think Cersei goes next season. Littlefinger too. Also somebody that would make the "protagonist" fan kind of sad, since Cersei is seen by almost everybody as an antagonist and Littlefinger is pretty neutral depending on your viewpoints. Somebody like Bronn or Arya.

I legitimately think the only truly safe characters for season seven are Tyrion, Jon, Dany, and Sansa. Legitimately anybody else can go and I wouldn't be surprised at all.

Ah well, I could talk for days about this. I spoil myself on TWD too much, so I'm trying to head into season seven as spoiler free as possible.

The spoilers for Season 7 seem pretty legit, but I somehow doubt they are.

DONT READ UNLESS YOU ALREADY READ THE SEASON 7 "LEAKS":

The whole Ice Dragon thing makes sense. The Night King kills one of Dany's dragons, and that is the Ice Dragon, I guess? And it becomes his steed? Pretty sweet, and perfectly logical. I don't think I'd read that theory when everyone was trying to figure out what the Ice Dragon in the prophecies were. All the other stuff was kind of expected, Jon and Dany fucking/coupling, the Wall coming down, some of it disappointing like Littlefinger being offed by Arya during one of his power plays... Like, is there any way for Littlefinger to go out that will be satisfying after such a grand plot for power he's hatched? The only thing that would make me do an Antonio Banderas leanback.gif after his plot concludes would be him sitting the Iron Throne, honestly.

Don't you tempt me

I was a little disappointed to learn of Littlefinger's fate, as well. I mean, it's poetic justice (and maybe a little bit of fan service, as well) in that Arya (at Sansa's command, IIRC) is going to do the deed since she witnessed her father being beheaded and it was Littlefinger who betrayed and him and thus helped set it in motion, but it seems rather anticlimactic for this show in particular that he would go out that way without realizing true power or his ultimate end goal. But, Arya's ultimate goal was to become an assassin and avenge her family, and Littlefinger is one of the final logical steps in that solution (I have to think that Cersei will probably be dead by this point).

Regardless, these next two seasons sound like they're going to be incredible, and I can't wait. There's going to be a ton of story to wrap up in thirteen episodes.

Hard for me to see Littlefinger ever actually achieve his goal of ultimate power. I figured he was destined to die at some point, although the books seem to be building it up to be at Sansa's hands rather than Arya's. I always assumed he'd teach Sansa everything he knows only for it to backfire when she outplays him at his own game.

Slight update, George did say he thinks the book will be out this year. Id like to point out we are a few months away from this book taking the longest to come out yet. By the time this is over it'll have been damn near 30 years, and that's not counting from when he started writing Thrones. Literal cities are built in less time. Come on, George.

Wish that what he said mattered anymore. He had an actual agreement last year (2 years ago maybe??) to have the book submitted by December, and here we are. Wish he was as inspired to write about Theon and Arya as he is about the Giants and Jets.

How depressing will it be when the show starts and ends in the time it takes to write one book?

NO UPDATE. If you see this thread getting bumped hoping for some cool update, stop reading now.

Was at work today, and Thrones popped into my head, and I started thinking about that alleged spoiler that was posted a few pages back dealing with the Night's King and whatnot. Read it if you want.

Anyway, I've talked before about I believe that Azor Ahai and the Last Hero were the same person, and eventually that person became the Night's King. Originally I speculated it was part of some truce, but now I think he saw an opportunity to sieze absolute power and took it.

If Jon is Azor Ahai reborn, and the last episode of season 6 all but confirmed that, and he's a mix between the lords of the north/ice/warging/greenseeing and the south/fire/dragon masters...then wouldn't it make sense that the first Azor Ahai was too?

Thus, my thought is Azor Ahai was both a dragon lord and a greenseer. That's why he can see Bran in those visions, and that's why he, allegedly, will be able to
Kill a Dragon and make it his own
. This theory could also have ramifications for other myths. Like the Horn of Joramun. Maybe it isn't lost at all. Maybe he has it, and better yet, maybe it was his, being part dragon lord and all.

I dunno. Been too long since I talked Thrones so I needed to get it out of my system.
