The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread (includes spoilers)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Sure he would? He's still a trained fighter. He still knows how to fight. Reek was meant to break Theon's spirit, and literally do what he's told to do, or fear the repercussions. If Ramsay wanted Reek to kill for him, he'd have done it, too.

Although he wasn't completely Reek anymore since escaping, he still had his Reek moments.

Serving Ellaria Sand wasn't very Reek-like? Hell, I thought that was more pathetic than him jumping in the water. Serving that nasty bitch was pretty cringe worthy to me.

I wasn't trying to convince you of "anything". I don't disagree he had a total Reek moment. I get that. He clearly looked shell-shocked, and we were supposed to notice that he's gone total Reek.

I'm not sure why anyone would be that surprised that he did though. Nor was it necessarily a thing he did, too.

Regardless if he was fighting successfully, or not. He still knows how to fight as a solider.

If someone comes at him with a sword, he's not going to literally run away.

I wasn't surprised, either. I don't know, this conversation went a million places that I have no idea about. :chuckle: My original point really was just that the show clearly intended him to be reverting to Reek despite the cowardly decision being the smart one.

It's just fascinating because I think Euron is going to end up being a pawn for Cersei. I feel like she's going to lead him on as far as necessary for her to stay on top. There's seriously a hundred different directions this can play out which is why this show is so great. The relationship between Cersei and Jaime right now is definitely interesting. There's the obvious love and loyalty to his sister/lover, but I think he's really seeing the true Cersei that is only concerned with Cersei. I think Jaime is going to be a seriously interesting character in this season.

Chris, I don't think we are disagreement. I was more so just asking to see others opinions about this. Didn't get a chance to read through the thread. I just glanced through a few pages before heading to bed.

I read a lot about it online. And a lot were in the opinion that Theon was just a total pussy and left his sister to die -- just to save himself. Even if that were the case, she's at the mercy of Euron anyways.

Regardless him being Reek, or not, I just don't think it was this extremely cowardly/betrayal act. Euron had his sister. At that point she's basically a hostage, and Euron is taunting him to come save her, so he can kill them both.

Him just resulting into total Reek mode, just ironically, might have been the best decision.

Even if it was totally non-heroic/pathetic.

Jaime is no longer Kingsguard, right? Kind of ruins the dragon killing theory (remember, his name in the kingsguard book had nothing extraordinary under it besides killing his king) but I could still see it. Maybe one of the dragons are wounded by Qyburn's ballista or whatever you call the bolt thrower, and that shot of Jaime charging across the battlefield on horseback is him going for the kill shot. Fuck, that would be an epic scene.

Not sure if you're a book reader but I'll assume they are going the same way as the books regarding Jaime and Cersei's relationship, as has been discussed in this thread extensively. What the result is of that? Remains to be seen.

I haven't read the books I actually plan to start after the series wraps up I think. Either way that ballista is not going to go unused and one if not more of Khaleesi's dragons I think are going to die, maybe all of them hell who knows. I do think Jaime is out of the Kingsguard but I don't remember it ever being brought up? You just see him kind of awkwardly standing outside of all of the shots of Cersei while she's on the throne. You really only see Qyburn and The Mountain with her anymore.

I've heard the books and the show don't line up though? I just didn't want the books to spoil anything or have two separate stories unfolding so I wanted to hold off for now.

As far as Daenerys' dragons go, I think one will be killed in battle with the Lannisters, too. I'm guessing Drogon will live this season, though.

As for your other question, the show is far ahead of the books now. Up through Season 4, it was pretty much Season 1=Book 1, Season 2=Book 2, Season 3/4=Book 3/4 (mixed up). Most of the big stuff remained the same. Season 5 they really started taking some liberties but the overall plot was still the same. As of Season 6, they are past the books, so who knows how closely the rest will line up.

The story of the books is so much more detailed both for better and worse (and in my opinion, better story overall...sorry, can't go by without mentioning this much to everyone's annoyance) but at this point I've given up hope on the books. When I think of this story, I think of the show, now. It's kind of sad, but it's just a fact of GRRM taking forever that a lot of us have lost hope. Thankfully, the TV adaptation is really good.

Qyburn's weapon to kill the dragon not exactly easy. Not that it can't do damage, but to actually get a kill shot in.

When you can't move that damn thing, while the dragon is flying around at max speeds.

Interesting...

I'm going to be bummed when it's all over so I'll definitely pick up the books. I too think Drogon will be spared this season possibly even being the last one left. Not sure if you're into Harry Potter but I think he's going to be like Nagini where he's the last to go if Dany's plan to rule the 7 kingdoms comes crashing down.

I'm just really fascinated to see how Jon and Dany's meeting goes. I wonder if the show is ever going to uncover that he's her nephew or if it's just going to torture the audience when their armies are killing each other. If I had to guess I think Tyrion is going to broker the meeting and keep it from getting hostile. I just wonder if they team up if Jon would concede being King of the North and letting Dany rule the rest? Kind of like the arrangement between Ned and Robert Baratheon? Jon seems like he wants nothing to do with being King of the 7 Kingdoms, just mainly making sure that Winterfell remains with the Starks. While Dany is hellbent on ruling.

Is it me or do people travel so much faster than they should on the show? It's like Varys teleports.

No they've specifically said the next two seasons are going to be very fast. Less scenes of people traveling on the roads, sitting next to a campfire, and talking it out.

Started at the end of last season.

Like Chris said, the show is way ahead. The show has cut out some stuff from the books that you can then probably assume weren't going to materialize into much in the books anyway.

I will say, I'm pretty sure it's exactly the opposite between Euron and Cersei. Again, in the books, Euron is no where near the point where he's proposing to Cersei, so this speculation, not spoiling. But Euron seems to have much, much bigger aspirations in mind than sitting on the Iron Throne.

I actually feel like, ultimately, he might be THE bad guy, even over the White Walkers.

I'm curious as to what Qyburn's motivation is in all of this. Is he serving Cercei simply because she enables him to conduct his experiments without interference, or does he have a broader motive?

Shit...that's actually a pretty crazy twist as they've made the Whitewalkers seem like the series boss finale. I could actually see that though given how many different directions this show takes. It makes sense though that Jon and Dany team up being that Dany sits atop the dragon glass and I'm guessing her Dragons could melt some Whitewalkers especially if they're going to topple the giants we saw in S7E1.

I feel like, if that were the case, the show wouldn't have waited so long to introduce him, or done it in such a half-assed manner.

So I'm very, veeryy curious to see what the show does with Euron. Because I feel like he might end up being the biggest change from the books.

If you haven't recently read a transcript from the Martin reading of Aeron's chapter last year, go do it again. Read all the parts about Euron, particularly the dreams and visions Aeron has of him.

If Euron announces next episode he's headed to
Oldtown
, then I think we are in for a wild fucking ride.

A link. https://racefortheironthrone.wordpr...winds-of-winter-excerpt-the-forsaken-aeron-i/

Honestly, I didn't get a chance to dig into this chapter before. I just read a quick point by point summary right after he did the reading of it.

But reading it fairly fully last night, it honestly feels like the most important chapter in the books, or right up there. And it paints this picture of Euron as
A man seeking to become a God, about to unleash all holy hell on the world

I think they will work together. Like you said Dany can rule the 7 Kingdoms while Jon rules Winterfell as Warden of the North. Jon barely has interest in being King of the North let alone the Iron Throne.

That said, it's be veeeerrry in line with the tone of this story for Dany to end up failing in some fashion. In that scenario, perhaps Jon does end up on the Throne.

If there is a throne by storys end.
