The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread (includes spoilers)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Would have been nice if Brienne mentioned how Aerys was going to blow up King's Landing and kill half a million people when defending Jaime.

Would have been nice if Jaime had copped to pushing Bran out a window while telling everyone he wasn't gonna apologize.

Nobodies perfect.

I understand people are upset over the fan service.

OTOH, everyone is going to get fucking DESTROYED next week, and it was the final goodbye to nearly everyone on the show.

I have to think they lose the Battle for Winterfell next week. It would be a little underwhelming if they beat the Night King halfway through the final season.

I thought it was fantastic.

These last few episodes are going to be a lot longer than what the first two were. It was always going to be a clusterfuck finish since they decided to wrap it all up in two seasons.

Next week should be one for the ages. They just gave a sendoff to a ton of characters that we've been watching for seasons tonight, and I really loved it.

They literally still have to wrap up the entire battle with Cersei and her army, as well as who takes the iron throne in 3 episodes.

It’s going to come to a head next week. You just can’t fit all of that into this short of a time frame.

I’m legitimately annoyed.

Sorry, not digging it. Last week was fine, if a bit uneventful. Another week of filler/fan service? Marginally acceptable, but my red alerts are going off because the writing is getting borderline cringey and this story’s finale is dangerously hinting at not having the depth and nuance that we were hoping for.

The announcement that Bran is being “targeted” and Jon’s suggestion they just kill the Night King to destroy the Army of the Dead...whooooa boy, has me hella nervous that this is gonna wrap up like every other fantasy epic.

Arya and Gendry, please. Come on.

It’s like this story decided to just stop diverting expectations and go into full fan service mode.

What gives me hope is the battle is next week and leaves 3 long episodes following it... so there has to be some juicy shit coming. But as of right now we finally have all these characters in one place and I know the expectations are hard to deliver on but... they better knock it out the park going forward.

I say this and I’m a sucker for “pre-big battle quiet moments” :chuckle:

I'd expect a good number of Tormund, Podrick, Brienne, Grey Worm, Jorah, Lyanna Mormont, Yohn Royce, Jaime, Ghost, Beric, Edd, Bran, and Theon to die next week. Some of those characters have been with us for 5+ seasons.

I liked the final sendoff they gave the majority of them since next week is going to make the Red Wedding look like a carnival, although they probably could have just extended episode one by about another thirty minutes and merged these two episodes.

Spot on.

It’s a train wreck of fan service.

On top of it all. They specifically said they have 2 scenes that are the longest battle scenes in the entire series.

One being 30 minutes of screen time or something like that?

So just chop out another 20-30 min of the final 4 for a ducking fight scene.

Maybe I’m going crazy, but I could have sworn I read somewhere (maybe on reddit) that the first 3 episodes would be wrapping up the Night King storyline, and the last 3 would be wrapping up the Cersei stuff. Maybe that was just someone’s guess though, I honestly can’t remember where I saw that at.

My biggest complaint was the literally just took episode 1, and reformatted it and did all the same things over again just in a different way. All we did was get the exact same reunions again. Like Arya and the Hound, throw that scene into episode 1 with the 30seconds they gave them in that episode. Just felt like all they did was rehash everything from episode 1. Chris couldn’t be more spot on. Without the source material, it feels like we are watching a show on the cliff notes versions of the last books. They are going to rush the shit out of these last episodes and I feel it’s going to lack the depth. I get the sense the end is going to be very sudden and abrupt. Let’s hope we are wrong, but there’s just way too much to button up. And let’s be honest, this isn’t the season of hour and half episodes we all thought it was going to be. We are only getting three hour and 20 minute episodes, so really what equates to one extra episode for a show that typically has 10 episodes. So we are still short.

I mean, the next episode is literally the length of a full length film. I think they'll fit it in.

I hope this is wrong because what a very under developed storyline the Night King would be. No real hashed out motivation. Great army destroyed in one episode. Would feel really hollow.

Oh man no one is taking the Iron Throne that's kinda the whole, entire point.

We are only getting two hour and 20 minute episodes, so really only 40minutes if additional content.

This isn't correct.

Episode 3: 82 minutes
Episode 4: 78 minutes
Episode 5: 80 minutes
Episode 6: 80 minutes
