The Rise of Skywalker spoilers thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So.. people are saying they're boycotting Solo because Lando Calrissian is "pansexual?"

For real?

It was solid.

I actually enjoyed it, and had fun, what more can I ask for? The new kid isn't Harrison Ford but I can definitely see some Han Solo in him. Woody and Glover are absolutely fantastic as expected. Plot is pretty ho-hum, about what you'd expect, but whatever.

Certainly worth seeing.

There's a cameo that made me go "WAT?" though.

Oh, one more thing, not really a spoiler but just in case people are nitpicky, only read after you see the movie:

Han definitely, truly shot first. Pretty much confirmed in this movie. Fuck you George!!!

:chuckle:

Indeed! Gotta smash some Green Alien Slave girls...

Gour, that is decidedly problematic.

No, even if in the Orion language, is still no. Kirk is in the pantheon of patriarchical oppression.

Report to SF for awareness training.

Solo was good, cameo and final showdown made it very good
Yea I don't have many cimplaints. Didn't love it, but enjoyed it. Han was ok, everyone else was pretty cool (especially Lando). They did cover alot of things in this movie that I always wanted to know.

Cameo waa pretty bad ass. I like where this franchise is going.

The cameo is going to open this entire section of movies to a gold mine, IMO.

My wife and I thought the story was solid, Harrelson and Glover were fantastic and Han was not very good. My wife went out of her way to call him boring about twenty times.

Not as good as Rogue One but this definitely sets up for one hell of a banger Obi Wan movie. That movie is going to be fucking awesome.

I'm waiting for this to come out on iTunes.

I am a Star Wars fanatic. And yet, I saw TLJ once and refuse to buy it for my personal collection. All evidence is they are fighting the fans. Why? Just make a great film. Rogue One was great. Don't know what is happening with the others. Stop trying to make political points and make a film that is generally appealing.

Disney is failing.

Yeah, this will be the first - but not the last -- Star Wars movie I don't see in a theater.

I'll be honest -- the "pansexual" thing bugs me. Not because there's "a" pansexual character; I wouldn't have cared one whit if they'd have introduced some new character who was pansexual. It's that it was Lando Calrissian. Lando Calrissian as portrayed by Billy Dee Williams was a smooth as fuck alpha male, heterosexual as hell, who instantly zeroed in on Princess Leia in clear sexual competition with Han Solo. To redo his character to appease some agenda is just too much for me.

To be clear, I'd feel the same if some conservative production company took Chris Tucker's character from the Fifth Element -- whose sexuality was all over the fucking place -- and turned him into some hardcore, straight hetero. That's not the character, and it would be a travesty in my mind to make him that.

I got an agenda-vibe from TLJ as well, in addition to it being an all-round shitty movie too. So...Star Wars has pretty much lost me as a fan. I won't see the third trilogy movie in the theaters either. I'm assuming the cameo was Obi-wan and...I just don't care. I assume they'll fuck that up too.

For me, Star Wars is pretty much at the quality level of a space-based Divergent movie at this point.

No, that isn't the cameo. The movie is good, definitely worth seeing in theaters, and Lando comes off just as you expect him to. There is no mention of this pansexual nonsense.

Anyways, I agree with a lot of this but it won't stop me from seeing the movies. There is clearly an agenda. Just like there is clearly an agenda with (video game reference here) Battlefield V, yet anyone who thinks there is is suddenly labeled a Trump supporter and/or racist, misogynist, etc. So I try to keep my mouth shut and just watch the movies and play the games. But I won't deny that there is a clear agenda with these things, and that they are clearly stuffing as much "diversity" into mediums these days just to appease some sect of society.

Soylo: An SJW Wars Story

In all seriousness, having seen the movie.. I really don't get it..

For example, one of the complaints is about L3 being a "feminist?" But L3 isn't a feminist, she wants to be released from bondage. That's more to do with the concept of slavery than feminism; and I think a lot of people forget that both mechanical and human slavery exists in Star Wars.

But a robot protesting it's status of servitude to humans is not new in Star Wars lore. It'd be like people calling HK-47 an SJW if he were included in the film...

I'm not even sure how the term "SJW" applies to the rest of the movie except maybe to the idea that Lando is pansexual ... but nowhere in the film is that ever remotely explored other than L3 saying that Lando was attracted to her, which is presented as laughable (even if true).

Nowhere do we see Lando acting out pansexuality in the sense of homosexuality in this film; which is what I think people were somehow afraid of.

Instead, Glover and the Kasdans (remember, Lawrence Kasdan wrote Empire is co-wrote Solo with his son Jonathan) have remarked that to them pansexual simply means there are no boundaries on Lando's sexuality because he would have sex with a droid, an alien, and yes perhaps even someone of his own gender (oh noes!) ...

I .. just can't see the problem with this? I honestly think it's laughable that so many adult men take exception to the fact that Lando might have fucked an alien or touched a dick in his lifetime.

Like really? Does that really ruin your childhood? C'mon man.. lol!

Solo wasn't great.. was barely good... But calling it "SJW" and saying it's "soy" (i.e. lacking in masculinity) is just ridiculous, don't you think?

Just to be clear ... it was the Kasdans who implemented this idea and Donald Glover, the actor, was fully onboard with it.

Secondly, I don't think the term "pansexual" would preclude or exclude any of the bolded in your quote above. I'm not sure how Lando being attracted to something other than women of his own species would mean he couldn't be in sexual competition with Han Solo for Leia?

I dunno... I honestly think they chickened out on the idea... nowhere in this film is he portrayed as "pansexual" unless that idea really just means having sex with aliens ... and as Stannis pointed out, Captain Kirk did that on a weekly basis.

But to not see this film because you heard about Lando being pansexual .. I mean .. I just don't get it.. Honestly, it's not remotely present in the movie; and if they never told you he was outside of the film, you'd never know. And even if you did know, why would it bother anyone?
