The Transgender Issue

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I talked to a transgender person named Ash; am I enlightened now?

That is not what commonly occurs in this thread. Policy is being proposed based on personal feelings as well. Indeed, the tenor of discussion is people trying to reconcile emotions they have that they know are irrational when it comes to trans people.

But talking to a trans person, and really talking them is also two different things.

I offer an anecdote: Recently, and I mean within the last two months, a friend who is a young attorney who is a partner in a successful firm he founded, who is married to a beautiful wife, and is winning in my Law School FF League, came out of the blue as transgendered.

I had no idea. He came to my live draft in a dress. I was uncomfortable and shocked but did not show it. After the draft was over we had to address what the fuck just happened. I needed to know why he up-ended his life and ended his marriage.

After an hour of hearing what I had, it now seems so petty to have an issue with a lot of the feelings I had prior to the event even though I had known trans people as acquaintances.

New data, new positions. Do I still have some squeamish feelings about calling my dude friend her? Yes. But I recognize the illogicality of the emotion and the irrationally of my former positions.
Why not just call this person by their name? That's pretty awesome though. No warning, just balls out.

What logic is there in not using the pronoun they prefer?

When do you call a person by a pronoun to their face when they have a name?

I'm not talking about to their face. Mixed company. Groups. Or in exasperation.

"That stupid cunt took Hunt right before I could. She can suck a dick."

Well, if they are also friends with him they would refer to him by his name.

Lost what argument? And to who? CNN polls?

Oh. My. God.

The Breitbart website has gained sentience!

Did someone call you alt-right too in order for you to change them?

What is it like to live life in such abject fear? Does this whole Forgotten Man milieu devour your soul at all times? Do you have positive things in your life to dwell on? How do you keep from keeling over with a heart attack? You present as someone who is physiologically aroused at all times. It is as if you have PTSD.

Something to remember:

"The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts."

-The Divine Marcus Aurelius Antoninus, Augustus.

I've been called a homophobe when I was a young man -- and that opened my eyes quite a bit, if you really wanna know.

You shouldn't be afraid of being challenged on your preconceived notions.

I know what it's like to have prejudices borne out of ignorance, and like we've said on this page .. it took sitting down with people and talking for me to realize how idiotic those prejudices can be and how one might not even realize they hold such ignorant views.

I had a guy sit down, in my living room, and ask me to my face, "how am I any different than you? Because some book tells you it's so?"

It took a lot of guts for him to say that to me, in that setting, given the kind of guy I was at the time -- I really had no answer for him.. And then and there I knew what I believed was bullshit...

I mean, I know you're partially being facetious, but, if you really wanna know, yes, someone called me out on my beliefs, to my face, and I'll never forget it.
