1) Your business, your right, and I hope you rot in hell. I won't take my business there and we all have a right to protest its existence.
2) See above
Okay...
3) Housing gets into a different set of things. Housing laws I'm okay with being stricter.
But this seems like an arbitrary distinction. If my business is an apartment complex, hell, what if my business is my home, it's a duplex, and I live on the first floor. I don't want Asians or Jews on the second floor. Is that okay?
4) That's a safety issue subject to health code and inspections
Safety issue according to who? It's my business, it's my property. Who can tell me what is or isn't safe? The customers all know walking into the door what the situation is.. For example, I don't change the grease in my cookers.. but I cook open air, in front of everyone, and no one has gotten sick -- who is to tell me to buy new grease? ... I have roaches throughout the kitchen, it's no secret .. who can tell me that's not okay? It's my establishment, right?
5) If it's a contract, I have no issues with employees working for less than minimum wage. I'm not economist, however, and that would probably have bad effects that were probably originally legislated against.
I see.
6) Your money was made in our country. If you don't want to pay taxes, start your own.
Wait, I don't understand... I created my own wealth from money that I wasn't paying taxes on. Taxing of money itself isn't the issue .. you can inflate or deflate your currency as you see fit. I'm talking about taxes on transactions. I'm not paying sales tax, or any form of tax for that matter. It's MY property, by any definition it's my property. I own it. Will you put a gun to my head and take it away by force?
*Obviously "you" is not
@gourimoko here.
No of course, I mean, we're just exploring this topic with thought experiments.. doing some critical analysis.. Think about the above scenarios, and I'd be curious to hear your response?
Because, as I see it, I'm not sure if there are not some ad hoc/arbitrary distinctions being made.. For example, if property rights are absolute, and that's where the notion comes from that a business can discriminate or underpay it's staff or not hire Jews or Blacks, then, it seems to be reasonable that said business can refuse to pay taxes too - or refuse to adhere to zoning codes, or health codes, or climate regulations, or safety standards?
So my question is, where does society draw the line, and why? Why draw the line with housing and not hotels? And what about sexual exploitation (i.e., suck my dick for this job/raise or to keep your job or raise?)?
I mean, to be fair Cassity, our society used to be this way, and we put in place laws and regulations to make life better for everyone -- it's why we have the society we have today, instead of the one we had 100 years ago where an employer or manager could openly demand sexual favors, discriminate upon any basis, underpay staff, and exploit workers, or where minorities couldn't get fair and equal housing.
