Theoretically Ante Zizic

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
As much as I like Ante (and think he could produce with LBJ), he’s a rookie. He’s extremely young. His European experience has him far ahead of his peers skill and body-wise.

But I am fine with him just learning without playing for this year. We have so many guys Lue is already dealing with having to play, I see no need to complicate it with the young guys.

Let them get their time in during blowouts, extreme foul trouble, injury emergencies, and rest days. We really don’t need to know whether they can play or not this year. Both of them are going to be here next year unless they get traded.

I just don’t think it’s time to try to force a rookie into a rotation when we already are hard at work integrating a whole new group of guys into our core team as a contender.

I think Zizic will get some chances this year. Tristan already had a sore knee. And we ran him into the ground last year...and I know for a fact the Cavs regret that. He was out of gas by the Finals. The Cavs aren’t going to do that this year

Just be patient with it. He’s a good prospect but he’s not a factor in this years equation.

I just don't like our options for starting centers. Zizic doesn't need to close the games out. Hell, he doesn't even need to play more than 15 minutes a game. But I think to start the game when most teams play conventional basketball, he'd be a good option to throw out there. Or even when you have much bigger centers play. OR, against less experienced centers that our two primary 5s don't have to worry about (Hernangomez and those type of guys). I just think real game experience with LeBron on the team is important for a guy like him. Especially not knowing whether he'll stay or leave. To me, if you're a young guy you want to give it your all when playing alongside LeBron so this could be a good opportunity to have him in try to impress LeBron mode.

Now, I doubt he's going to get any meaningful minutes this season, but I see more potential in him than I did in Tristan at any point in his rookie season. And that's just from his short time in preseason. But knowing the minutes Lue threw him out for in preseason, I am almost positive he won't play unless Tristan is injured.

When does the Canton Charge season start?

So Zizic is on the "make one mistake and you're out" brand of super short leashes.
Ok then....

He made more than one mistake, but it's baby steps with raw bigs like him. If you were expecting him to go from no rotation minutes to heavy rotation minutes during a 4 game skid, that's on you.

But he knows how to use his size so well at such a young age defensively, which is a rarity from bigs. Just when watching him you can tell he is caught between things with his thought process, and that split second to make up your mind in the NBA is a killer, and he got beat a few times in the PnR too easily.

But he also altered shots, cleared space defensively, and was an anchor at times.

Some good stuff from him, certainly some glimpses.

Was a tough game to blood a rookie. Even Love got benched in the 4th so maybe Lue gets a pass

Ill say this though, if Lue had a strategic role for Z when he brought him in, he wouldn't be so quick to pull the plug after one foul. You can kinda tell he just throws out roleplayers and hopes for the best. He's more reactive than proactive

I really hope he doesn’t have mozgov hands.
He doesn’t. But our players don’t know how to pass to a guy that knows how to roll into space in the paint.
He must be used properly, it will be a damn waste of a talented big if we stink this one up. Also, Cedi...

The two shots that he altered were the first two shots a Cavs big man has altered so far this year.
He knows how to stay vertical, great to have that back (Varejao). Something TT should learn.

I really hope he doesn’t have mozgov hands.
Kinda racist (in a good way???) to say this but Euro bigs generally have pretty good hands. Maybe because they train perimeter type skills more from a young age

Lue watches the Cavs get horribly outrebounded all game. Lue still refuses to give him any minutes.
And he knows how to close the penetration near rim, our perimeter guys actually funnel someone correctly, but there is nobody there to do the final stop. Well despite being a rook, he showed he is willing to get there and use his lenght. Also, our pick and roll is passing is terrible, even Draymond Green could not get those late passes. Z actually knows how to roll into the paint quite nicely, we talked about this in the summer, but the pass comes when defense is already back in contact. Same goes for Love, he gets into quick post position but the pass is almost always late.
