"Cleveland, Browns held on for you today...No chance Carolina was hitting FG at end. Things like that don't happen anymore in Cleveland" - Dan Gilbert, 11/28/2010

When "The Fumble" happened, we felt bad for ourselves. Same thing happened when "The Drive" occurred. Ditto for "The Shot", "The Mesa", and "The Skinner". Then came "The Decision".

Some, myself included, felt that LeBron titled it that because he was staying, and that it would be symbolic in that things would finally go Cleveland's way. LeBron then took his talents to South Beach, leaving us once again without a championship contender.

There is a silver lining, though, and his name is Dan Gilbert. Mr. Gilbert is a breath of fresh air to this city. In a city that used to getting pummeled and disrespected nationally, creating a general attitude of "woe is me", he has refused to join in. When we were watching the Browns yesterday and the Panthers got in field goal range, we all thought the same thing - here we go again...only in Cleveland. Gilbert thought the opposite...and the opposite happened.

A negative, pessimistic attitude is contagious, even to our team's players. It's why the Cavaliers lost in Orlando. It's why the Indians lost to Boston in 2007 when they had the Sox beat. This city wants BADLY to win...but doesn't expect to win.

I know it's tough to change, and it won't happen overnight. But we all need to adopt Gilbert's attitude and way of thinking. To become a championship team, a championship city, we must first truly believe we will do it. I don't mean going through the motions and holding "Believeland" signs...I mean really believing.

Let's focus on the positive with all of our teams.

The Indians have a ton of young talent, including Carlos Santana and Shin Soo Choo. They have a bunch of high upside arms in the minors that will start arriving in Cleveland this summer. They've also built a team good enough to win it before - things just didn't fall into place when they needed to (2007).

The Browns have finally found a quarterback that will lead this team for the next 10-15 years. They have a young running back that is playing as well as any other back in the league right now. They have two stud offensive linemen that will be here for the next 10 years. They've also found two top young DB's that will lead this defense for a long time. Most of all, they have a guy running the ship in Holmgren who knows what it takes to win a Super Bowl.

The Cavaliers have an owner who is passionate and wants nothing more than to be the guy who brings this city a title. They have assets (Draft Picks, TPE) and young talent (Hickson, Gibson), as well as some good veterans that can either help moving forward or bring even more assets to the team. They also have a coach who is a proven winner as both a player and coach.

I'm done with negative and pessimistic thinking. All three of our professional sports teams have things about them that give us hope and optimism going forward. One of them will win a world championship for Cleveland within the next five years...I guarantee it.

We're about to be a part of the Cleveland renaissance, both in terms of sports and the city in general. No more curses, no more bad luck.

Things like that don't happen anymore in Cleveland.

Things like that don't happen anymore in Cleveland.

I love hearing this. Gets me really hyped up about Cleveland sports (if I needed to be anymore than I always am? but yeah w/e).

Well, that is until I remember how many 4th Q leads the Browns have blown. It does happen. It will happen. It will always happen. It will probably happen in a year we do actually win.

LeBron leaving was supposed to rid of us of the bad. Instead of that, Andy and Mo get injured. Browns do what they've done late in games. Yeah there are positives! But nothing will change. I almost am glad it won't. It will make winning THAT MUCH sweeter when we do.

I want the Browns to struggle for their lives and go 9-7. Barely make the playoffs and then squeak out ugly games and win a Super Bowl.

I want the Cavaliers to have a late surge to get a 6 seed. Fight their way to the Finals and win.

I want the Indians to get a wild card, knock off the Red Sox or Yankees. Go 5-7-7 all the way to winning the World Series.

Cleveland sports are blue collar. Cleveland sports make you sweat, bleed and cry your teams colors. The only way I would want us to win, is to do so with adversity, hard times and rough moments.

Look, I love the positive energy, however this is how it will always be. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

Re: "Things Don't Happen Like That Don't Happen Anymore In Cleveland"

I sure as hell hope, but I'm not holding my breath.

It would've been such a great story for the Cavs to win last year (The Curse, first franchise championship, Shaq gets his fifth, LBJ his first, Z and Jamison end their careers on high notes), or the Indians in '07 (return of Lofton, ten years since the tragedy in '97, a young up and coming team toppling juggernauts in New York and Boston, breaking the second largest dry-spell in baseball) but God just hates us...

I hope Gilbert and them can turn things around, for the city in general and of course the sport teams. I'm not optimistic really, but I'm not pessimistic either lol.

Eh. Pep rally posts are fun and all but when you step away, you see what we have to work with right now in Cleveland sports and it's hard to get amped up about anything. Still, we shall see if Mr. Gilbert is right about this. Maybe James did take our curse with him. :chuckles:

But, probably not. Who believes in curses anyways?

Sigh...Just be positive for once :chuckles:

Sorry. Pep rally posts like this just tear me up. They really do. I can't help it .. It's like people think posting a lot of rah rah on a board is going to change our sports fortunes. I just can't get "into" that.

Sigh...Just be positive for once :chuckles:

Maybe I should tell you a story about how he left another message board because people were being "mean" to him, then he comes back the next day and posts 20 times, arguing with, you guessed it, those same people.

It's all cool though. He enjoys posting here more because people are nicer to him here. :chuckles:

Yeah, right.

I'm with you for most of what you wrote, but not this

Are you trying to say that in 1997, Indians fans pessimistic attitude made Jose Mesa blow a save in the 9th inning of game 7 of the WS? I'm pretty sure that a pessimistic attitude wasn't why the Cavs couldn't guard Dwight Howard and the Magics 3 point shooters.

You don't think Red Sox fans were pessimistic in 2004, when they were down 3-0 to the Yankees in ALCS and losing game 4, with the curse of the Great Bambino hanging over their head, Bill Buckner, and the fact that no team had ever come back from being down 3-0? This is just such an asinine sentiment.

I definitely thought that was the case.

As far as Gilbert goes, I truly believe we are seeing that Lebron did take the curse with him. His team that was a surefire juggernaut is looking like a turd because of injuries and too many egos to mesh. We still aren't world beaters ourselves, but I have full faith in Gilbert. The league also doesn't hate him like they do Cuban so they won't keep him from winning (could be wrong on that one though)

Just saw Lebron and Dora on a commercial together while my daughter watches TV and it made me want to puke

To much fluff and not enough substance..

Last time I checked, The Browns are .364 in baseball that would be a 100+ losing season.. Basketball it would be 29 - 53 record AND they almost lost to the worst team in football and should have..

Indians have absolutely zero starting pitching and their defense is below average..

Cavs ,well they are also under .500 . Gilbert may be willing to spend money until he's green in the face but I don't see any big time talent coming here via FA

I honestly think every one of us RCF's should hit Dan Gilbert on his twitter and thank him for standing behind our city, being truthful and unintentionally being The General that we need him to be. I've never seen another Cleveland Sports Figure stand behind Cleveland sports like DG has. I literally love this guy. He is doing all he can to prevent us from falling down and never getting back up again and so far, he is prevailing.

So a simple 'Thank you Mr Gilbert for standing up for our city' to his twitter will make a man like him smile. Being appreciative goes a long way..

This post is the best ever! We as fans control if the team wins or not! It makes sense now...
