re: 2012 Orlando Magic and Rent-a-Dwight

I'd rather keep Byron Scott over mine and Ron Jeremy's former stunt double.

re: 2012 Orlando Magic and Rent-a-Dwight

Firing Otis? Inevitable and justified.

Firing Stan? Makes sense if he's colliding with the star player, as good of a coach he is it's harder to find that kind of talent.

Firing Stan without first getting a max extension from said player? Fucking stupid and will most likely lead to Amway turning into a parking lot.

Nearly every problem with the team involved Otis. Otis wanted a team of 3pt shooters. Otis wanted the inside out offense. Otis overpaid for people to fit that offense. Unfortunately Stan gets most of the blame for that.

It's going to be real hard to replace Stan. As good of a coach he is, I'm going to miss his press conferences as well as his blunt and honest remarks along with his no bullshit attitude the most.

re: 2012 Orlando Magic and Rent-a-Dwight

A superstar player is more valuable than a coach, and considering the moves Otis Smith has made, Dwight Howard is shit ton more valuable than him. This is a no brainer if their goal is to keep Dwight.

Tell that to the Spurs.

re: 2012 Orlando Magic and Rent-a-Dwight

We need to fire Byron Scott immediately and bring in Stan.

True dat. SVG is one of the coaches who makes a difference. Switch the coaches in the 2009 ECF, and the Q has a NBA Championship banner.

re: 2012 Orlando Magic and Rent-a-Dwight

i would do that in a heartbeat, as the cavs should as well. problem is he'll have offers to coach better teams in better cities so there's likely no shot he accepts.

maybe if the cavs get anthony davis tho:cool:

SVG wouldn't talk to us if Byron was still under contract, and he might turn us down even if the postiion was vacant. Plus, kind of a classless move to get rid of a coach whose done as well as can be expected.

Keep Byron, and just hope SVG doesn't go to an up and coming contender.

re: 2012 Orlando Magic and Rent-a-Dwight

How can anyone seriously advocate trying to get rid of Byron? I know Stan is a pretty good coach, but there is not a single person out there I'd rather have mentoring my young star PG. What's with you people?

This is a train wreck for Orlando. Forces out their GM and coach and likely leaves himself in free agency. What a dick, I didn't think anybody could leave worse than LeBron did, Dwight's getting close.

Just because Byron Scott was lucky enough to coach two elite PGs, doesn't mean he's great at mentoring them.

Great post, but I think you let Howard off the hook a little too easily here. While Otis Smith mismanaged his assets, he also had a lot of heat coming his way from Howard to shake up the roster and make a push for wins short-term. Howard started a lot of this drama, then he gets to leave and blame the organization for the things he said he wanted.

Stan is a top 3 coach in league. Byron is not, ergo it would be better to hire Stan. Though it won't happen for the reasons I outlined earlier. But still, if he were willing that is a snap offer the Cav make.

I hope he ends up in OKC or LAC. Or LAL for that matter.

Speaking of Dwight, he is a retard. Hearing the suggestions of players he "wants" is a good example of a superstar severely lacking knowledge about the actual game.

Yet both of the point guards he has had the chance to mentor have praised his coaching abilities.

I thought people were using sarcasm when they mentioned replacing Scott with SVG.. Yikes.

Dwight is to blame for a lot of it as well, and I think I did talk about how terrible this year has been with his bullshit. Still, I think it snowballed between the two. One asking to change a 20 while the other gives him two fives and five ones.

Fine. Keep him on in a mentoring position. Hire SVG as the full-time coach.

re: 2012 Orlando Magic and Rent-a-Dwight

Call me petty, but I still hate the Magic franchise (sorry Butters!). Dwight's moving screens and horse smile as he launched a three, Rashard doping, and Stan Van's stubby arms and constant whining. No tears shed for Orlando.

Now all we need is an implosion to that other Florida NBA franchise.

Must be great for their draft preparations.

He mentored Kidd past his prime, Kyrie, and CP3. He's been able to coach them up to rookie of the year (not Kidd). You don't think a guy like John Wall would flourish under Byron? He knows his shit. I've never seen a guy manage to get the so much intensity and energy out of a group with so little talent. In fact, I'd argue straight up that Byron is a better coach than SVG.
