Tracking the Pacers

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I honestly don't understand it. They dominated most of the regular season and looked like the best team in the league. What happened? How did Hibbert have this big of a collapse? Usually when a player struggles, it isn't this bad and definitely not for this long. I don't know what the deal is. I think it would be a little hasty to blow it up, but changes need to be made.

This is my favorite Pacers gif

I was crying when I heard this guy last night lol. Too funny

So from a scale of 0-to- Nick Anderson just how bad will Hibbert's mental breakdown be. Nick only really had one decent season after his major choke against the Bulls

"Worse than Kwame Brown"...damn lol

It's just too scarily reminiscent of the Cavs in 2010. The Cavs, however, got through the first round in 5 games before they collapsed mid series. The Cavs also probably had less talent from top to bottom and were playing a team that was 10 times better than this Hawks team that's up on Indiana.

I can't wait to find out what went wrong internally; it has to get leaked eventually.

This whole situation just completely baffles me talk about an epic collapse.

I know it's been said but I guess making the 8 seed isn't pointless this year. I was positive the hawks were tanking. Which makes this even more unreal. Just, wow.

Really feeling for Hibbert man. Dude is an absolute shell of what he was last year.

I'm sort of convinced that when a good team starts struggling and doing bad, that all types of fake rumors just start flying out to either "explain how this is happening", which just makes it all even worse. I was convinced the Delonte thing was real, but I'm not so sure now. The Rashard Lewis thing obviously never was because he wouldn't be on the Heat for the last 2 years if true.

This is amazing.

"NBA fans in China has invented a currency, the HibbertCoin, which has been overwhelmingly catching on on majoy Chinese NBA forums. (self.nba)
submitted 23 hours ago * by alvinjiawei

Greetings from China! Allow me to introduce Reddit to a brand new currency - the HibbertCoin.
Since the beginning of Hibbert's poor performance streak at the end of the regular season, members on Hupu (a major basketball forum in China) have been finding ways to make fun of him.
After G1 of Pacers and Hawks, one Hupu member "jootoo8" made such comment on the postgame thread that "Omer Asik can be traded for 5 Roy Hibberts." Another member "集苞米的熊" replied "Is Hibbert a unit for measuring trade value and performance now?" A couple of days later, an article that translates the Reddit link "If the Pacers lose in the first round who bedcomes available in trade?" (Yes Chinese NBA fans have been translating Reddit r/nba links into Chinese and posting them on Hupu to see how Americans comment on certain things) was posted and user "SmithKobe" comments below:
"Take '1 Asik = 5 Hibberts' as international norms, David West = 7 Hibberts, George Hill = 4 Hibberts, Paul George = 10 Hibberts, Scola = 3 Hibberts, etc etc. The Hibbert-net-worth of the Indiana Pacers is 46 Hibberts. Let's see who we can get with this much Hibberts."
This comment was upvoted to the comment of the day and the idea of using Hibbert as a unit for trading value has taken over Hupu. Comments like "Hibbert has standardized the system of trade measures. His contribution to NBA equals ‘The First Emperor of Qin' to China." and "The HibbertCoin has circulated throughout the country. It is by far the most stable currency on the market, with an inflation rate of absolutely 0." have made the HibbertCoin well-known and one article that suggests Hupu uses HibbertCoin as its official online currency was put on the home page, making HibbertCoin more popular than ever.
Earlier today the term HibbertCoin has been uploaded to Baidupedia (the Chinese Wikipedia) and is currently pending.
The link below takes you to the Hupu article [Hupupedia: HibbertCoin]. I basically translated the whole page but please visit so you can see pictures of the HibbertCoin.

Well, that couldn’t have gone much worse.

Let’s take a look back at the Andrew Bynum era in Indiana: 36 minutes over the course of two games, scoring 23 points and pulling down 19 rebounds during what amounted to two little tests in the regular season. Oh, and he used a lot of training room ice. Spent some time in the anti-gravity treadmill. That’s basically all of it.

Andrew Bynum’s time in Indiana is done, the team announced Wednesday — he will miss the remainder of the playoffs and not be with the team.

“We want to thank Andrew and our medical staff for trying to get the issues with his knee resolved,” Pacers President Larry Bird said in a released statement. “We wish him the best in the future.”

The Pacers signed him as a free agent Feb. 1 for $1 million. Despite Bird’s public protestations, this was really a signing designed to keep Bynum away from the Heat or another team that might use him against the Pacers in the playoffs (at the time of the signing that was a concern). If the Pacers got anything out of Bynum, great, but when he was signed the guys in the locker room shrugged.

Announcement: Pro Basketball Talk’s partner FanDuel is hosting a $30,000 Fantasy Basketball league that includesWednesday and Thursday night’s games. It’s $25 to join and first prize is $5,000. Starts at 7pm ET on Wednesday. Here’s the FanDuel link.

To be fair Bynum is not at fault for the collapse we have seen in Indiana — he was barely around the team, he didn’t change the chemistry, he was not taken seriously enough to damage chemistry. It’s not Bynum’s fault that somehow Roy Hibbert has morphed into a poor man’s Kendrick Perkins on the court. (The Danny Granger for Evan Turner move by Bird had a bigger impact in the locker room and on the court.)

Bynum’s NBA future going forward is largely nonexistent. He has serious knee issues and doesn’t like to play through pain in them. His chances in Cleveland and Indiana largely went poorly — he can do some things still on the court but he can’t really get and stay on the court.

I like Bynum, he’s smart and honest. He’s got a diversity of interests in his life, he is curious and likes to explore. That makes for an interesting person. However, it doesn’t really make for a great NBA player — that requires a singular focus that is just not in Bynum’s nature.

Because he’s big and skilled some team may give him a small, non-guaranteed contract. Maybe a training camp invite. But the days of investing in Bynum are gone, and soon he will be free to bowl when he wants, to flamenco dance his way across Europe without being bothered by nagging NBA responsibilities and fans.
