Tracy McGrady

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

The Rockets, according to sources with knowledge of the team's thinking, refuse to consider buying out the remainder of McGrady's $23.2 million expiring contract, which would enable him to become a free agent.

One source said that the Rockets' anti-buyout stance is so deeply rooted that they plan to keep him on the payroll even if a deal can't be struck before the trading deadline.

That is a spiteful and very unprofessional stance by the Rockets.

That's just posturing by the rockets at this point.

Of course right now you have to keep the message out there that "the only way to obtain mcgrady is to trade with us".

Also, they don't want to let Tracy think that he can get a full price buyout from the Rockets and then go get an additional contract elsewhere.

But come the trade deadline you think they wouldn't dump a player that they have no intention to play - in order to save $5-6 million dollars (double whatever they get back from McGrady, since they're over the luxury tax)?

It's a statement the Rockets have to make now - but it means nothing.

He is a trade asset.

Any buyout potentially helps the people they are competing against, its a sound business decision.

But he was talking about AFTER the deadline when he wouldn't be a trade asset. The Rockets reportedly said they wouldn't even buy him out after that (basically a dick move to McGrady).

I personally just think it is kind of tough talk because the Rockets will probably trade him anyway so they are just saying that.

Yeah, trading McGrady is really going to change what is going to happen to the Rockets in the playoffs:chuckles:

It's a dick move by Houston (if they don't buy him out after the deadline), and the fact that his contract is insured for a super high % makes it even more of a dick move.

edit: if a team doesn't want a player there, they should cut him/buy him out - especially when he's not some random scrub. If they can't get a trade done and still refuse to buy him out, it's just a selfish douche move.

So the Cavs would be trading Z, JJ, Danny Green, a # 1 pick and cash for Randolph and Maggette?.....Why not throw in West and Parker as well?

Because the salaries do not match.

As I mentioned, if the Cavs are that high on Randolph, they do that trade. It's more like JJ, Danny Green, #1 pick and cash for Randolph/Maggette assuming Z returns.

Tracy McGrady, if not traded by the deadline, is of no use to the Houston Rockets.

The Rockets organization knows they arent going anywhere this year. Not negotiating a buyout after the trade deadline is against their own financial interest and a move clearly done out of spite.

Still an awful trade.

Well when you see Randolph as Darius Miles, it's easy to understand your opinion :)

Personally, I don't know enough about Randolph, nor do I think he'd help tremendously in the short-term, for my scenario to be appealing....but again, if the Cavs are completely in love with the kid, I would think they'd do it......definitely not trade #1 on my wish-list, however.

I don't see the Rockets doing that after the deadline. That said I think it's likely they'll find a deal knowing that the only other option is to reach a buyout agreement.

But right now Tracy is in a similar situation to Iverson and Marbury, he's left the team and is waiting for a deal. Something tells me he won't wanna wait until February or March to play another game, he wants a trade ASAP.

Ok so we buyout McGrady. Wheres the first place he goes? LA Lakers, a team we played and perhaps play again in the playoffs. Spiteful or not, you do not intentionally put yourself at a disadvantage.

LOL TMac or not, LAL in 4. Why would you even worry about that? :chuckles:
