Can I ask you, what is Rondo doing while we're playing Golden State?
Exactly.

Why are we acting like Rondo would play a big role in the playoffs in the first place...

Just bring him in to run your bench in the regular season, limit LBJs minutes as much as possible, give him spot minutes in the playoffs if we need him/blow people out, and then enjoy our typical 8 man rotation deeper in the playoffs.

Yet to see anyone advocate for him playing a major role, especially in the playoffs.
Why are people acting like Rondo is going to accept this? What reason or evidence do we have to believe Rondo will accept being relegated to a <10 mpg role player?

He's running the 2nd unit and/or guarding Curry/Livingston, much like Delly.
Rondo guarding Livingston?

Nah, man. Not a chance. Livingston would shoot right over him like he wasn't even there.

You do realize Rondo is 6'1" and Delly is 6'4", right? Big, big difference, especially against Golden State.

Even so, an injured Delly barely played in The Finals last year. The same thing would happen with a healthy Rondo.

He's running the 2nd unit and/or guarding Curry/Livingston, much like Delly.

But the whole reason we let Delly go was because he was totally unneeded against the Warriors. Once we realized it was Kyrie or Bust, then Delly served no purpose. Moreover, I don't think the second unit will get much burn against the Warriors this year, just like they didn't last year. James and Irving will both average around 41 MPG.

Let me ask you..... Who's departure had hurt us more?

I'm not sure what you mean by this? More than what? Delly's departure hurts us in the regular season, as does Mozgov's. I've said repeatedly that we should've kept both and traded them prior to the deadline. Delly should've been signed the year prior, but even his $9M deal this year was fine -- the whole "saving money" thing was overblown given we signed shitty ass Dunleavy - which, if you go back, I was adamantly against.

Now you know why @Los216 is talking himself into the idea...

No, I really don't.

It's not a regular season game. Delly was garbage against the Warriors last season. And Rondo can't be trusted to do anything in the regular season, let alone in the playoffs. I'm not sure why we would have this clown in our locker room?

But hey, I get it's fun to talk about....

Exactly.

I guess it depends on how much he wants to win. But I see him taking all of McRae's minutes and 3/4 of Felders minutes especially in the playoffs if it were to come to it.

Exactly.

He wouldn't be playing 10 MPG in the regular season...you seem to be mixing what I'm saying about the playoffs in as what I'd expect in the regular season...

We should be playing as though every game is a practice game against Golden State. Who cares about the regular season? The only thing that matters for this team is the 7 potential games against the Warriors; that's it.

Judging by his actions since the end of the Boston Big 3, there's no reason to believe he would accept that role here or anywhere.

I like Rondo's skills as a backup PG and what he brings to the table on the court, but his personality literally cannot work on this team due to the limited role we can offer him.

I do, when having no other guy to run the offense is causing LeBron to play more minutes than he should in said pointless regular season. His MPG are up for a reason this year...

I want this to limit LeBron's regular season minutes...plain and simple.

Nothing about the playoffs, nothing about his role, nothing about his fit...those things I don't give a shit about...just looking to lessen the burden being placed on LeBron right now while simultaneously not sucking dick with LeBron off the floor and the bench on the floor.

I'm not mixing, I'm just looking ahead. So Rondo plays 15-20 mpg in the regular season and then drops below 10 in the playoffs, and we think he's just going to go along with it and accept that?

Not a chance in hell.

Also, Rondo isn't stupid. He's actually an incredibly smart guy. He almost certainly knows that is what would happen here.

Guys logging too many minutes because no one can handle the ball will hurt us come playoff time. Rondo could get 20+minutes a game here the rest of the way.

I mostly agree with everything you've said in this conversation. But I'd point out that when people are talking about the importance of regular season, it's because they want to make sure guys like LBJ and Kyrie don't rack up too many minutes. Delly soaked up a lot of minutes for us last year in the regular season and the first couple rounds of the playoffs. We've got a huge void when it comes to that with backup PG this season, unless you're confident Felder can fill that role (I'm not).

Having said that, I'm not thrilled about the idea of Rondo in this role, even at a vet. min contract.

I want our stars to get less minutes in the regular season just like everyone else, but that is not going to work with Rondo. He's not going to accept coming here to be a regular season mercenary, come the fuck on guys :chuckle:

I agree we shouldn't have James/Irving/Love rack up minutes.. I honestly think it would be wise to force James to sit rather than have him dominating the games/second units, etc.

If we lose some regular season games as a result; then so be it.

Why wouldn't he?

You said it yourself, he's a smart guy...if he comes here in the 1st place, he knows what he's getting himself into.

But he'd also have half of a regular season to prove he can a) play a role for a good team over the course of a regular season and b) run a championship quality team.

You think him having fallouts with 2 teams in 3 years, eating a buyout, then going to a shitty team just to rack up minutes is going to re-up his value on the market more than that? Cause I don't...and he's probably smart enough to realize that.

If Rondo gets 25 MPG in the regular season, you're going to just rip him out of the rotation come the playoffs? And everything will just work?
