Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Ofcourse we have a use for him.. we desperately need a Center, too bad that TT isn't a very good one. This team would look ridiculously good with a dominant defensive Center... best in the league probably, atleast in the RS.

A defensive center will fix our variance problem because we will no longer live and die by the opponenets 3pt% wide open percentage that day.

We would blow teams out early and when we do they would feel deflated and give up bcause they would get crappy looks, unlike now that they know they just have to knock down their open shots to cut the lead.

TT's definitely not a dominant one but when he's playing at 100% he's still a plus defensively and a huge plus on the glass.

If we manage to add a guy like DJ...TT absolutely is not needed(probably would be sent away in the deal.

I think we'll be better off starting him. But when starting him we definitely need that explosive scoring guard to go along with that line-up.

You point to 1 bad series. I can point to 10 good ones. Including against GS.

The Cavs don't have a clear need for a good/plus defender at the 5? The need for an athletic big with the ability to switch to perimeter guys and stay with them?

He's not ever gonna be the DPOTY. But tristan at his best is a plus defender, elite offensive rebounder, and legitimate lob threat. Its a clearly defined important role that nobody else on the current roster can fill. So we have to figure it out somehow. We have to be versatile. What's the point of all the talent and depth if we don't make a point to figure out and deploy all of it based on need?

Tristan is a plus defender because he is a Center, but he isn't an above average defensive Center, he is below average by advanced defensive stat tracking, and his offense completely kills whatever value he has on that end if there ever was one.

We can not have a non rim protecting Center kill the value of our other players on offense. He was fine with Kyrie because Kyrie was an elite high PnR threat and an elite mid range shooter but with the spacing that the 2nd unit needs in order to thrive it just isn't it.

If he wants to play, he needs to play with the starters once Isaiah Comes back, but it's still not optimal as far as I am concerned. I want a legit rim protecor in the worst way to cover for Love and IT.

This is pretty much it in a nutshell. His defense isn’t good enough to make up for boggging down the spacing and offense of the starters unless you have another creator/shooter in there like IT. That leaves a bench of Wade/Korver/Crowder/Green/Frye. Crowder and Green played very well defensively together in that fourth.

I think Thompson would be great in the “Javale McGee” role for us that the Warriors use. Go in and bust your ass and be a complete nuisance for 6-9 minutes per game.

Problem is we are paying him way too much for that.

IF he can't shoot? No, we don't have a use for a 5 who can't shoot, regardless of the defensive presence.

Also, against the Durant Warriors, we have only seen TT for ONE series. All the others do not count until he proves otherwise.

Man the amount of people living in the past with this guy. "He was great in our title run"...yeah, that was 2 years ago, a lot's changed since then. Guess who was also great that series? Kyrie Irving, and he's not here any longer. Richard Jefferson too, and he's on another team with one foot out of the league.

You need to adapt with the times, not wax poetically about the past. "But he destroyed Horford last year." Yeah? Horford is a pussy and Boston is a non-issue; we have bigger fish to fry and against the Durant-led Warriors this guy is just nominally better than worthless. "But Houston can always make it out." You want to watch Capela dominate him down low and Harden relentlessly dice him up on switches?

Get this guy off the team and get a rim protector already, for fuck's sake. Why why why do we refuse to do the obvious thing that would take this team to the next level?

That breath of fresh air I inhaled when Mozgov came in here a few years back and almost singlehandedly transformed our shitastic defense...yeah, I want to know what that's like again.

TT's presence on the court just destroys many of the good things that Love can give us offensively. TT clogs the paint, doesn't have to be guarded except at the rim when he gets a lob so his man can easily double off him and on to Love without having to pay a price. TT can set decent screens but in general he hurts spacing which in turn hinders the ability of our slashers to get through the paint and to the rim.

Defensively he doesn't protect the rim so he doesn't help cover up our leaky perimeter defenders or Love's lack of ability in that area. So I see TT as a net negative for this team.

If we had the better version of TT (Deandre Jordan) who is a true rim protector then we could justify him being on the court with Love covering up one of Love's biggest weaknesses. Plus Jordan is a much better finisher in the paint than TT.

Unless TT becomes that high motor, offensive rebounding machine who can be a game changer as he did at his peak, he is a liability on the floor, especially to Love and the first unit. Maybe he can become that guy again but I have my doubts, he seems fat, happy and paid and no longer "hungry".

Can we assign him to the G league to get him into gameshape? That actually would be useful - give us time to acclimate IT and worry about fat ass TT later

TT is a player with basically no skills who relies 100% on athleticism. He paid a big price for his "ironman" streak of consecutive games played and it would not surprise me in the least if the guy falls off a cliff athletically at a relatively young age. He doesn't strike me as the kind of driven person who will overcome the wear and tear he has sustained over his career.

I say, sell if you can, while you can. Yes, this is me throwing TT right under the bus.

Too bad we can’t AMNESTY him lolzz

If TT is not on another team after the trade deadline, this season is a waste. Shit trade that Brooklyn 1st and get TT out of here. He does not fit this new Cavs team.
