Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Nance did an excellent job on Adams whos probably the strongest player in the NBA.

I know hes not 7 feet tall but his long arms and crazy athleticism makes up for whatever he lacks in height, I think he can be a good small ball and big ball center for us, hes just a freak athlete.
He did really well tonight but it would be risky also if he does that too much, Nance is also injury prone because of his style of play... Also Adams does not have much offensive repertoire...

-first offensive possession of the game TT snags the offensive board and the new possession ends in JRs first three of the game

-later in the first half TT blocks a Melo shot, Which leads to a fast break and another JR three

Tristan is what he is. We’ve seen what he can do and especially what he can’t do for 7 seasons now. His skillset is far behind that of Nance and Love.

So he’s going to really have to amplifly everything he does 20% if he’s going to see much time in the deep playoffs. Better activity on the glass, smarter decisions, crisper/harder screens. Do that and he can contribute when surrounded by four skilled players.

With the arrival of Nance though, he’s likely seen the last of closing out games as he often did when we slowed down the pace in the LeBron/Kyrie years. It’s always going to be Love or Nance or both closing out games now. So he’s going to have to be a good trooper, a good teammate, and just maximize every minute he’s on the floor.

As long as he does that, I’m not going to give him any grief.

People need to pump the brakes killing Thompson. Adams is about the worst match-up in the entire league for him. He's just not big enough or strong enough to not get bullied. Don't forget that Thompson feasted on Boston two days ago, and he's not a bad match-up for Golden State either if he keeps playing like he did on Sunday. He also didn't have Love out there to help with boxing out for rebounds, which makes a difference against a big team like OKC.

I agree about the Love factor but once he returns TT will be coming off the bench

I don’t think so. At least not in the regular season. It will most likely be Hill with the four Cavs still left from the championship. And they will be very good together. Love has made it clear that he’s rather not play center and Hill gives the Cavs elite shooting to make up for Thompson’s lack of spacing and elite defense at the one the Cavs have honestly never had. This has the added bonus of giving the Cavs 48 minutes of either Thompson or Nance on the floor providing energy at the five position. I think Nance will likely close games (unless Tristan is really doing well like against Boston) along with LeBron, Love, and whoever else is hot on a given night.

Could not agree more. Nicely written.

Sure, but none of that makes it look any better that Larry Nance came out and owned Stephen Adams in the second half.

He’s more athletic, maybe a tad longer, twice as aggressive as a shot blocker, a much better and more versatile defender, 70 times smarter, and has 135 times the offensive game when compared to Thompson.

Thus, Thompson can have his janitor role. Nance should be starting over him and playing 25-30 minutes.

He’s a better player in every conceivable way.

Nance is injury prone: I'm ok with him coming off the bench, going all out in his 20-30 minutes and finishing games.

It's a luxury to have fresh bodies particularly athletic ones to come to throw out there against hopefully the more tired starters of the opposing team

I want Nance coming in rested and wrecking guys in the end of games. Tt is good to start. Let him get his work in and soak up some minutes at C. I love Nance in TT's old role of coming in fresh to end games and demoralize opponents.

Though I agree that Nance is better, this works as well. Start TT, but sub him out if he starts getting abused. That'll keep the pressure to perform on him, and also give us an out when he's not playing well. And as we saw last night, if Nance is hot, let him close things out.

No problem with that, especially if starting may make TT easier to move at some point....
