From the suggestion from Karma in the Antonio Daniels thread I decided to start this.

I really do think that Murphy could be the missing piece for us, we really dont need a post up power foward since we have Shaq, so why dont we get a shooting one.

Hes a great rebounder, and an underated defender (alot of you worry about his defense, and if your just looking at blocks then thats not all you need to look at).

So what do you guys think, Z and our 1st (JJ IS NOT INCLUDED) for Murphy?

I like Murphy. I really do. I think he'd be a stellar fit.

The problem I have, which I've already brought up earlier, is his defense, which is absolutely terrible...to quote the last paragraph of Hollinger's analysis:

Murphy can put it on the floor a little but is one of the slowest players in the league and has trouble finishing at the rim if there isn't a clean lane. While he's a tremendous rebounder with a strong frame and a knack for positioning, his lack of foot speed hurts him at the defensive end, too. He struggles to contest shots or defend long post players and is particularly bad at moving laterally to defend pick-and-rolls.

What we definitely don't need is another player who can't defend the pick and roll, we already have Shaq taking up that part perfectly.

I agree that offensively, he'd be a great fit...but then again, Z is a perfect fit too.... I see Murphy as a slightly younger Z, with a slightly better shot....I don't see how this trade really improves our team.

i think the cavs could get production out of a low cost ranged big guy like matt bonner than the huge cost of murphy

I dont think the Spurs would give up a starter like Bonner

Ly, trading Z for Troy would be a speed and Pick and Roll defense upgrade, lol.

sorry, i wasn't suggesting a trade, just trying to finds a way of comparing murphy's strengths on the cavs (shoot jumpshots) with his weakness' (ability to create, defense) in a way that would also take into account his huge paycheck. there are alot of players around who can shoot and are just as bad defensively, but much cheaper.

He's better defensively than people think.

Also, he's an absolutely elite NBA rebounder.

Big price-tag, but still...would be a great fit.

A slight one, but if you're giving up Z (who is a much better shot blocker than Murphy)...you want to make sure you're getting somebody back who's a clear upgrade on this team...

I would much rather ship out Z+Hickson for a Jamison type player, than save Hickson and get Murphy, because the first one would make us much better, while I'm uncertain about the second.

You're worried about Murphy defensively, and you want to trade for ANTAWN JAMISON?

The Cavaliers didnt trade a first round pick for Maurice Williams or Shaq and they didnt trade a player as good as Z in either of those deals so no way in hell Ferry trades a first round pick for a 3rd tier PF.

Yeah Im pretty sure hes not a 3rd tier, he averages 13 ppg and 11.5 rpg

He would be an excellent fit next th Shaq

First tier: Superstars - Players like Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, Dirk Nowitzki etc

Second tier: All Stars - David West, Carlos Boozer, Pau Gasol, etc..

Third tier: Solid Starters - Udonis Haslem, Kenyon Martin, Luis Scola, etc.

Troy Murphy isn't a superstar, nor an All Star and he isn't a bench player so that leaves him right where I put him.

Oh, I think you are wrong there. Spurs aren't looking to hold on to Bonner, but Bonner isn't anywhere near the player Murphy is.
