Truth And Rumors (trade deadline talk)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
And the Greg Oden talk.

Have we signed him yet?

It is what it is. No need to trade our crap for someone else's crap. I'm slightly disappointed we couldn't unload Speights, a player unlikely to be back next year. Even a late first rounder could be packaged with our two seconds to move up if the Lakers pick wasn't realized. Oh well. Kyrie, Dion, and Tristan are more important than finding bench fodder at the deadline.

Can somebody give me a heads up on what happened today?

Seeing the going rate for 1st round picks in today's new NBA makes me happy when i look at our FOUR 1sts from other teams as well as a couple of 2nds and all of our own picks intact. Grant was way ahead of the curve on this one even if the heat's picks were by default, and our memphis 1st is going to be one of the most valuable assets going forward if we put it on the market. Looking at the packages being put together for these 'stars', we're well in position to make a great offer should someone be put on the market.

Nothing for the Cavs. Check out ESPN, RealGM, or any other website for headlines about the (small and few) moves made around the league.

I guess we count this as a trade deadline move... lol

GM Chris Grant confirms Cavs have brought in Greg Oden, but gave no timeline on possible signing. "We'll see."

We got our masterpiece deadline trade a few weeks early is all. I expect this offseason, or next trade deadline to be the deals that set the stage for what will happen in summer of '14. We will be looking to be ready to contend for title day one of '14 season. In order to do that we gotta start setting stage after season ends ...should let some of our kids get playoff exposure next year to start that process.. We've got 30 more games of reigning in our win total before we start loosening the reigns next year..
.

Would have thanked this twice if I could.

Do people still think teams are going to pay Speights 10 million a year? Ridiculous to think that. Teams are reluctant to take on salary. The deadline clearly illustrates that, so the Cavs understand there won't be much of a market for him.
I will be surprised if a team offers him more than $4 million a year. Speights is a good 4th big. decent 3rd big in my opinion, but nothing more.

Thanks. The most interesting thing was when CG asked, "Did anyone get a first round pick for taking on money?" It sounded a little like a brag because of the memphis trade, but I think what he meant was that no one was giving up 1st's for financial reasons, which is one of the main things the cavs could offer besides speights.

It sounded like there were no deals they liked, which isn't hard to believe looking at the other trades.

Since Grant is tight lipped and we never hear of trades and signings until after the fact, wonder if they are seriously interested in Donte Greene.

I wonder what the situation with Donte Greene is.

Read he is recovered from his injury and several teams are looking at him including the cavs. BK was reported the most interested but think they can only offer vet minimun.

So on the Oden topic. Can we gain anything by using our cap space this year to sign him. Most teams can only offer min but we can pay this year and next and hopefully in return get a team optionat fair price for the following year.
