Truth And Rumors (trade deadline talk)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So glad I didn't skip class for the most boring trade deadline of all time

While your point is valid and I know that the moderators and admins of this site want to maintain a friendly relationship with the Cavaliers' beat reporters.

Maybe the admins do. I wouldn't know. As a mod, I'm just trying to keep things readable on this site and reading page after page of people whining about MSB is even worse that reading MSB. Put that stuff in the beat writer thread if you have to spout off.

Back on Topic, I think the reason why Speights may not have moves is because

1) Hickson, Blair, and Speights all brought each other's trade value down so much that noone got moved.

2) Cavs don't wan't another 2013 pick. They got enough already. They want 2014 picks and later.

For all those disappointed the Cavs didn't get a pick for Speights, the Spurs couldn't drum up interest in Blair and the Blazers couldn't find a buyer for Hickson. You know the market's bad when a near all-star like Smoove isn't generating interest.

@gswscribe now
I am hearing Warriors have traded Jeremy Tyler and Charles Jenkins ... conforming now. Bare with m

Whatever happened to multiple teams asking about Casspi? I can't imagine he'd still be here if a team even offered Valpak junk mail...

Rusty Simmons‏@Rusty_SFChron

The Warriors have agreed to trade Jeremy Tyler and Charles Jenkins. They're waiting for their turn in the rotation to get league approval.

So it looks like a couple other deals have gone through (unless the teams in front of them have already been spoken about, that is).

EDIT: Marc Stein‏@ESPNSteinLine

Golden State indeed made its two tax-shaving trades before 3 PM deadline: Jeremy Tyler to Atlanta and Charles Jenkins to Philly

I don't really care about pulling off another big move, but why just hang onto Gibson and Walton when that's 10 mil in expiring money?? At least get another 2nd rd pick or something!

Because Grant must think space is more valuable in summer with FA signings than now. We are way under cap whether we traded Caspi or Walton or not.

We are at $32.6 for 7 players. Re-up Miles for $2.225. 2 draft picks for $3.6 and $1.8 ( assume 5th or so and 15th) that is $40.2 for 10 players. If cap is $58, we have $18 million. What good would trading Walton done for a second? Wait for a team to be desperate like Memphis.

Even not trading Speights isn't a huge loss as we would have gotten maybe the 25th pick in this draft. Maybe Grant is hoping he can get a 2014/5 first by doing sign and trade with someone over cap or someone who wants to sign a big name free agent then take on Speights for dead weight back. Having the 25, 28, 33, 35 is redundant if LA doesn't make playoffs (Miami, Speights, Orlando, ours). Would have not complained, but Grant has a mean poker face going. Doesn't want to sell low. But, may have even bluffed himself.

Who else would join Barbosa, Bibby and Ilgauskas on a starting 5 of "Wizards who never actually played for the Wizards?"

:chuckles:

Source: Atlanta Hawks blow up deal at last minute that would've sent Josh Smith to Milwaukee. Hawks would've received Ekpe Udoh, Luc Mbah-Moute, Beno Udrih and a protected No. 1 pick.

No moves for Grant reported?

Ahh well. I'm really happy for his prudence. Ferry on the other hand...LOL.

I think Grant, in many ways, has earned the right to be trusted if and when he comes out and says there were no deals worth making. It's just that his masterpiece didnt take place at the deadline this year. The cliche "sometimes the best deals are the ones you dont make" comes to mind.

I'm liking his approach more and more as this thing rolls along, and we're absolutely stocked with assets because of it. He's shrewd and calculated. It sounds like there was a lot of crap out there and he didnt want any part of it. Good decision to sit this one out then.

All that said, a 2014 1st would have been nice...

Jennings-Ellis-Redick-Smith-Sanders would have been my sleeper team.. if they could set their egos aside that could have been a scary team.

We got our masterpiece deadline trade a few weeks early is all. I expect this offseason, or next trade deadline to be the deals that set the stage for what will happen in summer of '14. We will be looking to be ready to contend for title day one of '14 season. In order to do that we gotta start setting stage after season ends ...should let some of our kids get playoff exposure next year to start that process.. We've got 30 more games of reigning in our win total before we start loosening the reigns next year..
