Ty Jerome: Grand Theft Salary

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So I guess the loveable Neto won’t be back

He's an upgrade over Neto. You can put him at the point too. I think this is also a move, in case Rubio doesn't have it.

I'll be blunt. This is actually my favorite move the Cavs have made thus far.

He's everything people want Wade to be. An actual offensive threat.

If Rubio is really done, we are fine. Best move by Koby.

It's always nice to have a 6'5" point guard that can shoot 38% from 3 either way.

Lotta depth at the guard spot between Darius, Mitchell, Strus, Rubio, and Jerome.

And now we got an upgrade to Robin Lopez in Damian Jones.

Great off-season - signed LeVert, Niang, and Jerome and traded for Strus and Jones. Five guys and they are all going to play. The only players we lose are Cedi and Stevens, although some non-rotation guys like Neto, Windler, and Lopez won't be back.

He's a pretty good defender too. He's not a true point guard, but who cares, Mitchell and Garland play most the time, and they orchestrate the offense. We just need a guy at that position that can defend and hit 3s anyways.

He does both very well.

Nice pickup. We are stacking up a lot of guys who can play. Not stars, but the kind of guys who can come in when injuries happen and solidly contribute. JBB won't use our depth this way, but it also gives us flexibility to adjust to what other teams throw at us.

I dont dislike Jerome, I am just sad I liked Neto but it wouldnt make sense to use the last roster spot on another guard now

The downside is his 6'3 wingspan, he's basically a Coby White which isnt bad for the deal we signed him to

Really like taking a shot on Jerome..

Always appreciated his game and felt like he just needed a chance to get some minutes after being drafted high but kind of passed around to date..

Jerome has size and can shoot which is really important when playing next to Mitchell/Garland and behind Mobley/Allen... While he's not Darius or Rubio level of a passer, he can run a second unit just fine and will show some flare from time to time..

We saw last year the importance of having a third PG with injuries and how debilitating the offense can look without a capable ball-handler.. He's definitely not as good as Neto was, or as pesky, defensively but he brings some more offensive skill than Neto possessed..

Jerome is still only 25 and think he has a good shot of showing he's a worthy backup PG when Rubio moves on after this season..

Cleaningtheglass.com had him in the 75th percentile last year among "combo" guards in points per 100 shots at 117.7. He was in the 89th percentile in assists per usage rate and the 83rd percentile in turnover percentage. Those are impressive numbers!

His effective field goal percentage was in the 74th percentile. He was especially effective at the rim (73% made which put him in the 96th percentile). He hit 48% of his corner 3's, putting him in the 86th percentile. He wasn't as accurate at the non-corner 3's (34% and 45th percentile). He's an awesome foul shooter at 92.7%.

Watching the highlights of the Cavs game last year where he led them to a win going 9-for-13 from the field with 8 assists, it's clear he's good ballhandler who can shoot 3's, floaters, and mid-range jumpers. He made a variety of shots in that game, including a layup against a big.

I really like this pickup. The additions of Strus and Jerome to back up Garland and Mitchell allow LeVert to focus 100% on playing the 3 since we won't need his help at the 2.

I liked him too, but what good is he when JB would never play him. Jerome is an upgrade.

Sad thing is, JB won't play Jerome either, at least not right away. Unless Ricky is really done, and is forced to.

Jerome likely won't be part of the rotation though. This is an insurance signing, in case Ricky is done. A great signing, because he might be, and that really screws things for us.

Jerome is young, they got him on a good contract.

Rubio was so bad we couldn't play him much the rest of the year. He couldn't be part of the rotation during the Knicks series.

I know it may be the injury, but it also may be he's on a sharp decline and will never be the same, too. I am not that confident we can rely on Ricky. I hope we can.

What site do you use for defensive analysis/stats

Raises the offensive floor of the guards

I like it

I wonder if we’ve given up on Rubio or are at least not optimistic he’ll get it back

It's nice to have a star player who seems to care about all the interactions on the team in such a positive light. He's a natural leader. Hopefully Mobley and Garland are paying attention.
