Upcoming Roster Moves

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
1 less home run every 8 games (20 pro-rated to a full season) is not breaking the offense
I don’t know how you calculated that but whatever. Tell me how many teams without good power have done well in the playoffs the last 20 fucking yrs. That’s rhetorical because I’ve already done the leg work on that idea.

Calculated which part? Do you think that 1 extra HR per 8 games is going to make a huge "impact" on the offense?

Your sample is crap anyway and typically the team with the high payrolls like the Yankees have been able to afford (and probably ovepay for) the sluggers.

You frown on advanced stats which actually try to capture how much effect HRs have on offense (runs scored). It's obviously good to hit HRs but the most valuable power hitters generally have both hit for HRs and high OBP. Replacing guys who hit for low power and high OBP with guys who hit for high power and low OBP could actually be making the offense worse.

And you have no proof of that claim, and at no point am I crying for high power low OBP guy. Not once so I have no idea WTF you're talking about.

My sample is crap? Which sample are you referring to? I haven't given a "sample". I looked at an extremely large sample size and showed the results a couple of months ago. No opinion in results and no hypotheticals as you are providing, but you keep on keeping on.

1 extra HR per 8 games is over 20 HR in a 162 game season. You don't think that production will help any of the hitters before or after in the lineup. You don't think Jose or Franmil will benefit from a hitter with some power behind them? You don't think those 20+ HR will drive in any other runs or win any games?

OBP>SLG

Its better to have both, but if the choice is one or the other, take OBP.

Last years offense was ranked 13th in OBP....7th in SLG...7th in HR...7th in K...12th in BB.

Going into today the offense ranked 3rd in OBP...4th in SLG...4th in K...8th in BB...but only 9th in HR.

Windmills like Zimmer, Bradley, and Chang have been replaced with contact batters, like Kwan and Gimenez.

Which offense scores the most runs...even without knocking the ball out of the park?

This focus on home runs is nuts. And so is ignoring the Ks that often go with it.

Long-sequence offense will score more runs and chase more pitchers. The single most important counting statistic is, and always has been: Outs.

With Palacios down to AAA and McCarty up today, I assume that McCarty is going to go back to Columbus tomorrow and Chang will come back up off his rehab (as I assume Cleveland will not put McCarty on the official 40-man roster).

Yet, it was going to be the perfect time to bring up Oscar as we have no real back-up to the OF other than Clement and Rosario (and had an open 40 man spot). Straw did have a 2/3rds game break yesterday in Game 2 and Mercado took game 1 off. Yet, Kwan will have to play 6 games in 5 days this week unless relieved by Rosario or Clement. Then they have 3 off days in 8 games. So, for the next few weeks, they will role with their roster and we will see towards the end of the month what they do with Chang before Vargas/Morris need to start coming off the DL for that extra roster spot which then locks Gonzalez out of a 40 man spot baring a major injury till trade deadline time.

It will be interesting how long Pilk also goes as well because he is it as for 13th man reliever spot on the 40 man until 5/12 when Castro can come up (sent down 5/2 from COVID/26man active list and up for DH only roles which don't count to a 10-day wait) other than Myers and Karinchak who hasn't even gone on a rehab assignment.

McCarty was added to the 40 man roster while we didn't keep De Los Santos up. Not exactly sure why, but maybe they wanted a lefty long man to replace Allen?

I am assuming with the bullpen the way it was after yesterday that he replaced Palacios as the COVID replacement for Chang. Thus, even though technically on 40 man, he is probably able to be optioned down and off 40 without needing to pass through waiver (yet I don't know the official rules). I was assuming the Chang was going to be off the lineup for Columbus to join the team in Chicago as only Clement and Mercado/Rosario are the 2 on the bench on most days with Palacios going down. Yet, he is playing and they said he will/should rejoin the team during this week's away games at some point.

I just saw McCarty as a plug today in case it did get out of hand (Pilk, Morgan and McCarty to save the pen for 3 games in Chicago). Yet, they don't have another pitcher to bring up till like Thursday (a day off) as even Myers pitched 2 days ago (and got rocked again). So McCarty may stick around for a few days with Pilk now out for a few days with a long outing. They will not need an extra pitcher after Wed with 3 off days in 8 days and then Castro can come back up.

De Los Santos was the Covid replacement... I am pretty sure McCarty was added to the 40 man roster and not a Covid replacement...

Yep, pretty sure we were at 39 guys on the 40 man because Allen was claimed.

Who knows the rules ... but notice ... when Chang went on COVID -- Pilkington was his replacement (remembered he was optioned and recalled on same day). Then we had all those 3 guys go on COVID and Tully, McCarty and Santos came up on for (Quantrill, Miller and Castro). Pilk went down on 24th and Miller came off. McCarty went down on 25th and Palacios came up. Castro was optioned on May 2nd (Palacios and Santos stayed up) but Allen and Bradley were designated). We lost Allen and Bradley passed through to get us to 26 guys. We sat at 39 on 40 man - so I thought Santos was officially on 40 man for Castro coming off COVID.

Santos today was re-assigned (so off the 40 without waivers due to COVID - yet he wasn't Chang's replacement). Thus, Chang is technically still on COVID. Each time someone comes up for COVID ... it is technically a selection off the 40 man. Now for 4 people on COVID, we have technically sent Tully, McCarty and Santos off the 40-man (as Palacios and Pilk were on 40 man and stayed on).

Can we do it again when Chang comes up with McCarty? I don't know. Just assumed it was why they brought him up ... as I hate to lose him for nothing. But, if it happens no big loss (just a key guy to call up if there is another COVID issue later in season). Yet, he isn't long for Cleveland as they seem to like Castro, Santos and Pilk better (up longer) and today was just to fill-in in case Pilk got run out early to save Pen for Chicago.

With Chang being readded we would be at 40, I am pretty positive McCarty was the pitcher they decided to add to the 40 man to replace Allen's spot.

According to Roster Resource, McCarty is now on the 40 man.

Its unlikely that anybody would claim him, so its probably a safe move.

are we assuming that yu is gonna hang around

Angels are in need.. middle infield.. Fletcher was just IL'd... A Yu move to the Halos might bring back International Slot $$ or a larger deal that sees Amed involved might include a return of a kid like Edgar Quero, the Halos IFA signing from 2021..and their best catching prospect that doesn't need a 40 man slot...
