...or if Tressel is used and abused by a better coach on Friday, Meyer might decide to come back earlier? :)

Re: Urban Meyer resigns as UF football coach

This is the right time to take a break. Meyer is in for a rebuilding year next year, and stepping down now preserves his legacy for the next contract he seeks. Florida through millions at him to steal his attention away from Notre Dame... I'm sure his next college football contract will be record-breaking.

I also agree with KOTT: Urban has always sold his services to the highest bidder, but he is an Ohio man.

According to Mortensen, Urban Meyer will not resign, but will take a leave of absence.

dear urban meyer welcome to my attention whore list.

*Signs point to Urban Meyer and Tim Tebow moving to a same-sex marriage state and living happily ever after.*

Re: Urban Meyer resigns as UF football coach

I dislike Florida as much as the next guy, but this is a shitty deal for them. Now, Meyer basically has them held hostage. They can't look for a long term fixture at HC and will most likely have to settle for a substandard fill in until he decides to come back. Who knows how that effects recruiting and potential early entree draft decisions.

What if Florida is making another title run next year and Meyer decides he feels like coaching again? Do you dump the interim mid-season and hand Urban the reigns? What if he flip flops again in a couple of months? What if he comes back in 2011 and the team gets off to a slow start and he decides he can't handle the job again?

I wish the guy the best from a health standpoint, but I don't think this ends well for the Gators either way.

my guess is, this is more like florida begged him not to resign. florida is already in a world of hurt as far as kids moving on next year and from what I have read their talent coming up isnt nearly the same as the talent leaving. So I think florida begged him to not totally resign in order to keep the world class recruits that have already committed to the university. By him saying he is only taking off a year rather than resigning the university would hope the kids coming in will stay, since we havent not yet passed signing day.

either way 24 hours ago i felt really sorry for him, now, i could give a rats ass

Re: Urban Meyer resigns as UF football coach

As a Florida fan, this was totally unexpected. This was one of the most anticipated years, really expecting a national title game appearance. With Tebow leaving next year as well as a few anchors on the defensive side of the ball and defensive coordinator Charlier Strong, next year is going to be a tough one. I thought initially with Urban resigning that he'd take a break for a year or two (unless he had some disasterous health problems, which he may well have) but then he would make the jump to possibly the next level. However, the guy runs the spread which just wont work in the NFL (at least not all the time). Now, with him taking a leave of absence, I'm not sure how it will affect recruiting.

As far as talent, I think defensively, its a deep squad, they have some good defensive recruits coming in as well. Offensively, its less known. Our Percy Harvin replacement actually never saw the field this year because of an injury, but its doubtful that the program sees as good of a match for the offense as Tebow was.

This is cliche by now, but whatever...

Yo Urban, Imma let you finish, but Brett Favre had the best false retirement of all time.
