Oladipo is going to be a monster. Attitude, athleticism, work ethic all off the charts. One of the most impressive interviews I've ever seen demeanor wise, wow.

It is if you're picking him first in the draft.

Is it? Elite defender with a high motor who is relatively raw on offense, but can still stretch the floor. So you were against taking MKG if he fell to #4 last year then, right?

Fourth isn't first.

It's not that I dislike Oladipo...I just think there are at least two better prospects ahead of him.

Edit: And if we had the fourth pick this year, I would be totally fine with Oladipo, as that's about where he ranks compared to the other guys on the board. But we don't have the fourth pick. We have the first pick.

So in a so-called flat draft, you would balk at taking Oladipo with the 1st pick, but you are totally fine with selecting him with the 4th?

I don't think the draft is as flat as everyone is making it out to be. Tiers still exist.

And yes, I would be fine with taking Oladipo fourth provided that the two guys I think are on a tier above him who don't play point guard (Noel and Porter) are off the board.

I don't really get what is so controversial about this. Oladipo is a good prospect, but he's not the best prospect.

I am not a proponent of taking Oladipo first overall, but I have yet to see something that puts a subset of players over the rest of the prospective lottery selections. At this point, I have Len, Bennett, Noel, Porter, Oladipo, and McLemore all on the same tier.

All of those players are one tier ABOVE Oladipo...

I happen to think Oladipo will be looked back on as the best player in this draft class. I'm no expert, and I'm willing to eat crow if he turns into a scrub. That's just my personal opinion. As for the other guys being above Oladipo, if they were, then why would he be basically a lock for the top 2 or 3?

I wouldn't say he's a lock top 3. Mocks have him anywhere in the top 6 or 7. I think the top 6 players are hard to distinguish and I think team needs will dictate the order.

He's going to be a beast. If we don't get Noel, then I think I'm starting to lean towards Oladipo as my second choice. Hell, imagine if we could get both Noel and Oladipo.

If they can't trade, and if Noel and Len have any medical issues the docs flag, I really think this is the guy.

I was thinking about the workouts we conducted and wondering why certain guys worked out with other guys.

For instance... they just brought in Zeke Marshall and Mike Muscala at the same time. Both are big C prospects. I'm sure they wanted to see which one was better of the two and have them go head to head.

Then, Randall Holt (6'1" PG), Ray McCallum Jr (6'2" PG), Michael Snaer (6'4 SG), Nemanja Nedovic (6'4 SG) together. Couple of small PGs to go head to head and a couple of 6'4 SGs to go head to head.

I'm sure they would have liked to bring in Len and Noel to go head to head but couldn't obviously because of injuries. They did see Len vs Noel this year though and that should give them plenty of insight.

Then you have the 'big' workout with Porter, Mclemore, Oladipo, and Franklin which I find interesting because McLemore, Oladipo and Franklin are all shooting guards by trade, but Porter is a pretty tall SF. I wonder if they brought Porter into this group so that they could see if there was any hope of Oladipo or McLemore being able to play any time at the 3-spot against Porter and be able to score on him or defend him. I wonder if when they said Oladipo was 'explosive' in the workout, they saw that he was able to blow past Porter (like he did a couple of times when they went head to head iirc) or that he was able to defend Porter pretty well. Putting him against a SF and having him do okay might be all they needed to make the pick because they claim Porter is NBA ready and if Oladipo can score on or defend against him then they can give Oladipo the start at SF and then pull him for Gee or whoever, and slide him to SG for extra minutes.

Just thinking out loud. Might be pretty common sense or obvious, but it just occurred to me that the workout might have been for that sole purpose given Porter being there.

That wages of wins draft analytics article just put Oladipo alone in his own tier at the top of the college player rankings. It's posted in the 'Draft Analytics Articles' thread. He has the highest predicted 'wins produced per 48 minutes' of anyone according to their model. Of course, Pelton's model has him as the 17th best player. Interesting how much discrepancy there is between models. I think Pelton's is a little low personally but this one might be a little high. EIther way I think he's an incredible player and will become something special. I dont know what these models do exactly, I just find it crazy that one can think he's the best and the next can think he's the 17th best.
