Villanueva To Cleveland? - via Hoopsworld

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The great big smooth hope is still alive. What is the status of Thomas's and Oberto's contract, both are partially gauranteed? how much do they owe on each? if they keep one of them, they are def. not resigning the big smooth.

I think they already traded for Amir Johnson, who I'd assume is going to replace Villanueva.

my bad. yea, so they picked up about 7.4 million in salary at the PF, with kurt thomas is at 3.8 guaranteed, amir johnson is at 3.6 guaranteed.

they also have dan gadz and bogut as their big men, and joe alexander and prince Luc can play a little PF.

thats a gluttony of big men, it seems to me no way they match a full MLE offer to the big smooth. the great no haired hope is still alive!

Based upon his recent Twitter postings, it sure seems like CV would like to sign here, and with not many teams having much cap space, if we offered the full MLE, I think he'd be ours.

Teams with cap space:
Memphis
Detroit
OKC
Portland
Toronto
Atlanta
Minnesota
Sacramento

Of those teams, I think it's fair to cross Minnesota (Love), Portland (Aldridge), Toronto (Bosh), Sacramento (Jason Thompson), and Atlanta (Smith) off the list because they already have promising players or established stars at the PF position.

So, that leaves you with Memphis, Detroit, and OKC. Memphis has Darrel Arthur at the PF position, and Darko I guess... so they'd have to give up on their first round pick from last year in order to take CV, at least that's the way I see it.

Detroit probably has bigger fish to fry. Boozer, Millsap, David Lee, Glen Davis may all be at least as high on their priority list. I would be surprised if they offered CV more than the MLE.

So that leaves you with OKC as perhaps the only team that would be real players for CV. The way I look at it, unless OKC offers significantly more than the MLE, and we offer MLE, CV will be ours, based upon how interested he seems to be in playing for the Cavs, at least based on his Twitter.

im down with cv and chandler...offense and defense out of the frontcourt

I've wanted Charlie Villanueva since our season ended. I want him even MORE now that we are getting ready to land Shaq...

LOL

Don't make fun of Charlie...he has a rare disease called Alopecia universalis. 1 in 100,000 people have it, and it's where you lose most, if not ALL, of your body hair. Donald Trump is another person who has it.

Metrosexual males have it too.....from the neck down that is. :D

I doubt that Villa would take the MLE. He even said on twitter to someone that if he could do the same thing but make more money at one place than the other, why wouldn't he take the one that offers more money? To him, money is most of it, being on a championship team is just a bonus.

If you look at who that was to, it was to a person who asked him if he would take less money to stay with Mil. Just saying..

Who's giving him more than the MLE? As I outlined above, there are three teams with cap space that could use a PF (the other five teams with cap space either have a good PF already or a very promising young PF):

OKC
Detroit
Memphis

Memphis has Darrel Arthur, so I assume they aren't ready to give up on him after just one year. Detroit has bigger names to go after. Moozer, Millsap, Glen Davis, David Lee...

So that leaves OKC, who has Jeff Green already if they want to stick with that route, or they could go after CV or whoever Detroit doesn't get. The way I see it, CV would like to play here, and he's not getting more than MLE unless it's from OKC, so why wouldn't he come here for MLE vs. anywhere else for MLE? He obviously likes the Cavs, and if the money is the same...

Charlie for MLE, Sasha + something for Childress, and then either get Kaman or Chandler via Wallace's contract. Add in a Earl Clark/Sam Young/Gerald Henderson from the draft, and we'd have ourselves a stellar offseason.

I could also see us getting Shaq instead of Childress + Kaman/Chandler. Hopefully we'd get someone like Parker or Barnes (with the BAE) to add on to CV, Shaq, and a rookie.

That's pretty much my thought for this offseason also.

Mo/West/Boobie
Childress/West
Bron/Young
CV/AV/JJ/DJ
Chandler or Kaman/Z/AV

Didn't we have this discussion before? Remember Charlie Villanoeyebrows? :chuckles:

Agreed. Unfortunately, it looks like we will trade everything to get Shaq. I would much rather get 3 or 4 players who fill our needs and make us younger than get ONE old guy who doesn't solve any of our problems.
