Re: Cleveland VS. Memphis Game 6

Oooh this is gonna be good.

Paybacks a Bit.....

Re: Cleveland VS. Memphis Game 6

Thanks for the unique preview Ben.

Stopping or at least minimising Gasol's input is again key. Rotation on defense from this is vital as they have perimeter player after perimeter player who can hurt us from range. Miller, Jones and Gasol has a history of troubling us.

I'd personally like to see alot of Marshall on Gasol, just for a different look to the ineffective combo of Gooden and Ilgauskas. Z is just too imobile to handle this type of forward, and Drew has trouble with any forward with an inside outside game.

Defense to me is the big key. We have enough talent to accidenatlly score enough points if we work hard on defense. You can see from the Seattle game, if we defend well and board strongly you can run and the offense flows from there.

Re: Cleveland VS. Memphis Game 6

They lost to Boston at their place so I'm guessing they are totally different on the road being that we are wayyy better then Boston I'm gonna say Cavaliers 108 Grizzlies 96

Re: Cleveland VS. Memphis Game 6

we cant let threes kill us again like last time. We have to try to contain gasol, we did a terrible job of that last time. it seemed like he couldnt be stopped. Luckily we have marshall for this game, since we didnt have him last game.

Nice preview.

Re: Cleveland VS. Memphis Game 6

This is going to be a real test as Memphis is a solid team with a solid coach. I think we have about 3 keys to winning this thing.

1) Perimeter defense: The 3 pointers destroyed us last game. Snow, Hughes, and Lebron must keep up the defensive pressure, even beyond the arc instead of sagging off. This would be easier if Lebron and Larry get more rest than normal since playing that kind of tight D and then pounding it on offense is going to tire any player out quickly.

2) Take it inside. Gasol is no doubt an offensive giant, but dumping it inside on every possession will force him to work on the defensive end and maybe pick up enough fouls to be taken out of his normal minutes. The Grizzlies aren't as deep as last year, so getting their bigs in foul trouble will pay off. As we've seen, this team can hit the free throws, and it helps us control the tempo of the game. As good as the cavs are on transition O, I still don't like our ability to play transition D.

3) Let the perimeter game develop. All of a sudden, the Cavs aren't dead last in the league in 3 pointers, and everyone feels like chucking up marginally open treys or shots from 3 feet beyond the arc with 16 seconds left on the shot clock. Our gunners are MUCH more effective on the catch and release, wide open off the extra pass than creating their own shot with a guy in their face. We have guys that can hit a 3 now, but lets maximize those looks by playing it inside.

Recognize that Pau Gasol is going to get his points, Eddie Jones WILL nail a couple 3's not matter how good the D is, and Bobby Jackson can and run circles around Snow and D. Jones. Mike Miller and Battier will give us fits too, but if we can stick to the above it should be enough to pull out a win.

Prediction: Cavs 106 Griz: 92

With Marshall playing, and that it's a home game we should win pretty easily. That is, if we can play some goode defense..

Re: Cleveland VS. Memphis Game 6

FAST FACTS

· Including tonight’s game, the Cavaliers will play six of their next nine games at home at The Q. Cleveland was 29-12 at home last season and is 2-0 this season.

· The Cavaliers and Grizzlies met just six days ago in Memphis. The Grizzlies won 113-106.

· Cleveland is one of just three teams (Denver, Phoenix) to have six players averaging double figures in scoring.

· The Cavs currently rank fifth in the league in points per game (101.6) and rank 11th in the league in three-point field goal percentage. Cleveland finished the 2004-05
season ranked 17th in scoring and 29th in the league in three-point percentage.

· Donyell Marshall is averaging 12.0 points and a team-high 9.8 rebounds off the bench for the Cavs. He has the most total rebounds (39) and highest rebounding average (9.8) of any non-starter in the league.

· With seven more made free throws, Zydrunas Ilgauskas will move into fifth all time in Cavs’ history in free throws made and with 11 more free throw attempts, he will move into third all time in free throws attempts.

. Cleveland is 2nd in rebound differential. They outrebound their opponents by ten rebounds per game.

. The Cavaliers are the second worst team in the league defending the 3pt shot. Allowing a blistering 44% on threes.

Re: Cleveland VS. Memphis Game 6

As ikproved as we are on the perimeter I expect that we'll see a much improved ranking on opponents 3pt shooting percentage. Last time we played Memphis thay were hitting some 3's that were beyond comprehension. Just as Ray Allen had some makes that should usually never even be taken given the pressure being applied. i see us changing our defense up a bit to contain Gasol ...we could see Henderson used a little more with him on the court ...and likely use Gooden and Z less on him with Donyell also getting most of his time on the court watching Gasol as well ..

Re: Cleveland VS. Memphis Game 6

Gasol has in times past crumbled when tight defensive pressure has been applied leading to many turnovers. How we do this without leaving too many open shots on the perimeter is the challenge.

Re: Cleveland VS. Memphis Game 6

Can this damn game start already...

...

I'm giddy...........

Re: Cleveland VS. Memphis Game 6

Cow settling in to watch. Lets hope Gasol separates his shoulder 2 minutes into the game.

Seriously, I'd settle for an ankle sprain.

Re: Cleveland VS. Memphis Game 6

Limiting Gasol is huge. I believe the perimeter guys like Miller, Battier and Jones will get that theirs on our poor rotations.
