Wally S&T Ideas

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
thats wrong. they signed at traded for hedo making them have the MLE.

anyways, on realgm i read suns would take wally 1 year expiring for jason richardson. now i dont want jason richardson at all, but could we work a 3 way getting us a solid shooting PF?
im sure jason richardson is a pretty attractive piece, just not for us.

ill think of some ideas later.

It doesn't matter if they signed and traded for Turk they do not have a MLE they might still have cap space but they do not the Mid Level. The Mid Level is only for teams that are over the cap

guess what buddy, your wrong.

If a team is below the cap, then their Disabled Player, Bi-Annual, Mid-Level and/or Traded Player exceptions are added to their team salary, and the league treats the team as though they are over the cap. This is to prevent a loophole, in a manner similar to free agent amounts (see question numbers 29, 30, 31, 32). A team can't act like they're under the cap and sign free agents using cap room, and then use their Disabled Player, Bi-Annual, Mid-Level and/or Traded Player exceptions. Consequently, the exceptions are added to their team salary (putting the team over the cap) if the team is under the cap and adding the exceptions puts them over the cap. If a team is already over the cap, then the exceptions are not added to their team salary. There would be no point in doing so, since there is no cap room for signing free agents.

TOR may very well still have their MLE, espcially since they did a sign and trade of Marion for Hedo.

In essence, they didn't obtain Hedo by using cap space because they never had any to begin with. Because TOR didn't renounce Marion, his cap hold (along with the cap holds for their other FA's) had them above the cap to begin with, which entitled them to the use of their MLE.

That's the answer, so both of you are right and wrong

What you guys are arguing about goes a little deeper into the salary cap craziness. Let's say that they had renounced their FA's, and those moves would've left them $20 million under the cap. The MLE ($5.8 million), BAE ($2.2 million) and any trade exceptions or disabled player exception have to be included in that number. If they didn't have any trade or disabled player exceptions, they would have the MLE, the BAE, and $12 million in additional cap space. More often than not, you will see teams relinquish their rights to the MLE and/or BAE in order to provide a bigger amount of money. In the example above, TOR could've waived their right to use the MLE in order to spend all of their cap space on one player.

Wally

Ok, I know many of you are down on wally, but I am guessing he is in our plans for next year. First off, we are very thin at back up sf. Right now either AP (not a s/f,) Kinsey (not a s/f) or Green (2nd round rookie) is our back up sf. Wally still can play sf and shoot at a high clip.

The thing is, we have his bird rights so we can resign him without using the remaining mle or bae. He will most likely still get a bit more than vet min. Also we can turn his contract into an asset. If we sign him to 3 mill this year, and 4 mill next year with only 500k guarunteed, then we can trade him next offseason when the cap goes way down and pickup a pretty decnet player for 5 mill or under.

Our roster is incomplete, and he could fill some depth holes for us. I dont want him in our rotation, but he is a great locker room guy, can still shoot, and play spot minutes if needed. Also he is an ohio native, and those are always nice to have on the team.

This is all assuming ofcourse we dont Vanhorn him into better option...which is why I am sure we will wait until right before the season to make a final decision on him.

Re: Wally

I always thought Wally felt a little left out last season. Towards the end you could see the organization making an effort to get him some face time. I think they'll try to resign him if the price is right.

Now will Wally want to stay? There's a lot of teams that need shooters more than we do and could give him serious burn. He's gone from starting SG, to first off the bench, to stretch 4, and now he'd be Lebron's backup / locker room guy. I think he's stepped up and done everything he's been asked. Does he like here and want a ring enough to keep swallowing his ego?

As of yesterday, he said he still desperately wants to stay here. Wally is working out hard in New York and waiting for a call. He is playing in the celebrity golf tourney in Tahoe next week....incredible golfer.

What do you think? Perfect fit for depth? I still like what wally brings in a limmited role. He showed he can still play, just not at the same level when made the all star team. He can still be a valuable player on our bench backing up lebron and adding depth at sg and pf, Ofcourse he isnt g-force, but he is a realistic option.

You just proved everyone's point.

In order to attain capspace the Raptors must renounce all their exceptions in addition to their free agents. Since the Turkoglu deal was a sign-and-trade the Raptors didnt have to renounce their exceptions or free agents so they are still technically over the cap. And since they are over the cap they still have use of their exceptions.

I'm completely in favor of re-signing Wally, if for no other reason, to create another tradable asset. You are on track in your thinking , Lee. If he is re-signed it will be a two year deal with maybe 500K guaranteed in the 2nd year.

The other reason I want Wally back - I am thoroughly entertained listening to him talk about himself. His ego rivals Lebron's. :chuckles:

Max, could you let Wally know that I could listen to him talk about himself all day long?

If you really want to stalk him, you can go to Drive495 to do cardio, lift and work on your golf swing with him every day for 4-6 hours.

Hugh Jackman and Owen Wilson were there yesterday working out too.
