We need another Big

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Cavs new style, a fast paced offense, will make finding a big man hard. I really like Hollins and Andy just because they're medium-big but pretty athletic. There aren't many 7ft + guys who can run up and down the floor. Gortat reminds me of a young Z, tall, decent shooter, but not strong or very athletic. I really hope Hollins is at athletic as he looks, between Andy and Hollins, hopefully they can just out run/hustle bigger centers in the nba (except howard...can't stop a 7fter with a history of roids)

Marcin Gortat needs to go somewhere and prove he's just as good as Dwight Howard......he can start anywhere else

So whatever happened to Josh Boone?

Seriously, I think we will wait and see how we do in the first half before we choose a course to add a big. if our team of nobodies is around the fourth seed, then I could see the FO making a move for Dwight Howard fighter. We have the assets to capture a number of players if that makes sense.

For example if the Hornets implode again, and If ESPN has its way, they will trade paul to NYC. We could get involved using the trade exception and /or antawn's contract and pick up Okafor or Curry in the mix maybe even with a pick. Okafor being a long term investment and Curry being an expiring why the hell not.

If our guys meet the pundit expectations, and we are border playoffs or worse, I think we are more likely to auction off veteran assets to contending teams for picks and youth.

Okafor isn't going to help anything....he can't hang with Howard at all. He's pretty overrated as a defensive center.

They're looking around, seeing who gets cut. As I stated in my initial post, it's pretty obvious we need another big man who can man the 5. We might have to go with what we got, but I just don't see Hollins being a real backup. Andy has had his fair share of injuries and to go on a run with Hollins starting would suck.

Are the Magic showcasing Brandon Bass for a trade?

Brandon Bass hasn’t been happy since his plane landed in Orlando. He apparently felt he was coming in to provide the true legit power forward next to Dwight Howard. He was underutilized in New Orleans, then wound up in Dallas where he made a name for himself. But after finally getting his payday with Orlando, he found out that Stan Van Gundy doesn’t really use traditional power forwards much. He wound up scrapping with Ryan Anderson for the backup PF spot, and losing it, winding up as a sparse per-minute player, despite the obvious need for him versus the Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Now, with Rashard Lewis spending more time at small forward, Bass still isn’t expected to get minutes. And the Orlando Sentinel reports that he’s on the trade block again. The Sentinel reports he was on the block last season but no offers peaked Orlando’s interest. But with him blowing it up in preseason, the offers might increase. We’re also not going to mention that there’s a certain Western Conference team looking to trade an All-Star who would look for a power forward in the deal.

Bass has produced well. His defense is lacking but his real problem is that he’s in a system which doesn’t speak to his talents at all. He’s not a stretch-the-floor guy, he’s a post-player with a slight midrange. Another spot and he could wind up with the minutes he’s been chasing for years. The question is exactly when Orlando will call it quits on the Bass experiment and get some assets that they can use.

Brandon Bass is only 6'8.. but he is a big dude that we might be able to package something with Orlando for him and Gortat... We definitely have a surplus of undersized Power Forwards (JJ, Powe, Jamison, Samuels, Varejao) so we would probably have to trade one of them.

Hollins gives us length, but we need some length and strength to go along with him to bang with Shaq, Perkins, Dwight, (Bynum & Oden when healthy).

I expected this.

First the trade with the Hornets was explicitly and example. There are many possibilities which will depend on how teams are doing in three months.

Second, Okafor is a better center than anything we are putting on the floor at the moment. The thread is about getting a big. Hard to say that he is over rated defensively, in that I am not aware of anyone making a claim he has any defensive skill at all. He played two games against howard last year, sucked in the first and played OK in the second. Thats not to say we won't get lucky with Hollins. But we will know by january.

I'd rather take what we get with Hollins than waste money on Okafor, really. The Hornets fans that I know are always complaining that Okafor is garbage. I'd rather complain that Hollins is garbage.

How about Varejao and Parker for Bass and Gortat..... any way in hell they do that? Shoot throw in Powe as well.

I really doubt Orlando will move Gortat. They're trying to win a championship and they must like him if they gave him the contract that he has. We wouldn't have traded any of our 2nd string players last year just to save some money...or to get a couple average guys in return.

Okafor makes 12M a year and isn't worth the money. You won't win if he is an offensive option and on a good team he is a garbage man. "Better than what the Cavaliers have" does not equal the answer the center position.

Unless a young cheap C becomes available, the Cavs should just stick it out with what they have. There is no high quality C available and you don't want to get stuck with a long term overpriced contract for an average C.
Acquiring an Okafor or Gortat type isn't going to make the Cavs a championship contender but it will limit future cap and payroll flexibility.

Are you saying Howard is on roids? I'm pretty sure this isn't true or at least proven.

As for Okafor, please no. I hadn't watched a lot of him but once I heard the complaining on here, I decided to check him out and he would not be worth the money by any means. I'd much rather find a big in the draft and let our current roster play out for now.

I agree with Okafor, but Gortat is an incredibly underrated player. He's honestly one of the best defensive centers in the league.

While Gortat is certainly overpaid in Orlando, as a starter for another team, his contract really isn't that bad. Check the league today and see how much good defensive centers that can rebound well and run the floor are going for... especially one as agile as him. Biggest problem with him is he's not a guy you can throw the ball down on the post to and expect points, but that could change with a different mentally and role.

Not sure if I'd like the Magic to deal with the Cavs though. Andy, but an Andy for Gortat trade wouldn't make sense and there aren't any other players in that Cavs roster to make salaries match/fill a void in the Orlando roster.

1.) A different mentality or role won't change anything about Gortat's offensive game.
2.) At best, he's unproven as an every day starting center that you can count on. This league has been littered with bigs that got MLE contracts based on some quality back-up minutes over a few years that ended up showing their true colors once they finally were asked to be more than just a backup.
