We need to make a serious run at acquiring Devin Harris.

With the NJ Nets expected to select John Wall in the upcoming draft (and assuming that they do) it will make Devin Harris expendable. There was a report (http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/66510/20100511/nets_have_received_calls_about_harris/) that says Harris may most likely be available. If we were to let Shaq and Z walk, this could be a big selling point to LeBron.

The idea of possibly finally playing a run and gun offense with a new coach who knows what he's doing, a super quick point guard, a power forward who can run in Jamison, and (?) at shooting guard and center. If we want to contend, if we want to keep LeBron, if we want a future franchise, this may be one our only hopes. Trading for a big talent. Somehow someway this offseason.

Devin Harris blows.

Ball dominant guards with NO SHOT are not a good pairing for Lebron. In fact I couldnt think of a worse pairing. In fact this guy played on the worst team in the NBA and was there for most of the games.

I disagree. The guy hasn't had the opportunity or the privilege of playing with an open court player like LeBron. Those two on the run is a scary thought. Nor has he had the coaching or surrounding players that he needs to succeed. When he was a young stud in Dallas he was running teams out of the building. Then they decided to trade him for J. Kidd. Worked out didn't it...:chuckles:

My point is... he may not have a great shot - it's something he can work on. But we have a power forward and shooting guards who can shoot. Rajon Rondo just kicked our ass and he can't shoot. Tony Parker can't shoot. - point guards who have a ring... and we don't.

If you went 12-70, wouldn't you be "ball dominant" or should he have allowed Jarvis Hayes to take over the majority of their games...

I don't really watch that many Nets games, but 2008-2009 he should have been a starting all star. At least he's an 80% free throw shooter for his career. We need more of those kind of guys. 30% career three point shooter and 40% fg.

How good of a defender is he?

You should have been able to see what he could do with Vince Carter.

Who would you trade for him?

Harris had one good season where Lawrence Frank wrote the playbook around him and no other teams really gameplanned to stop him.

Overall he's a decent player, solid defender, but he doesn't have a good jumper, can't run an offense any better than Mo Williams, and will take assets to acquire. Our assets would be used much much better elsewhere.

Ya the guy was so bad that he was a starter on a team that almost went down as one of the worst all time.

He shoots 40 percent and looked like a fraction of the player that he was a season ago. For all we know, his foot speed will never be the same.

Again, this goes back to the same issue of pairing Lebron with Wade and Rose. Lebron likes the ball in his hands eighty to ninety percent of the time.

If he doesnt have the ball in his hands well he is going to stand around and watch on the perimeter.

Putting Lebron next to another ball dominant guard and asking him to have the ball in his hands a lot less isnt going to fix any issues in terms of getting him a title.

Our best player personnel move is getting Lebron to commit, having him recruit Bosh like a mad man and then work out a sign and trade involving Hickson, Z and whatever else.

People need to see the forest through the trees, Lebron playing next to ball dominant guards is not a match made in heaven.

In video game land it is great. Wade and Lebron could probably win 10 titles in video game land by being on the same team. But in terms of championship basketball, I cant think of anything worse than pairing star players who play the exact same game.

Pretty sure the Nets want to shed Devin Harris for salary so that they can sign Lebron and another superstar to go with John Wall.

I'm sure they'd give Devin Harris in a sign and trade for Lebron.

No one is going to trade with us until Lebron is signed IMO. No one wants to be the one who made the trade that took Lebron off the table in free agency and kept him in Cleveland.

I don't know why they'd do anything to help us at all when they are trying to get Lebron.

What's the scouting report on his D? Can he make it so they doesn't get shredded by the Derrick Roses, Tony Parkers and Rajon Rondos? What would you use to get him?

There is no guarantee that the Nets will get the first pick in the draft. This isn't the NFL draft where the worst team automatically gets first. Remember... it's a lottery. For example for the 2003 draft we finished with the same record as the Nuggets. We got first while the Nuggets got bumped all the way back to 3rd. Anything can happen. My money is on the Nets not even striking the top 2.

Its more likely that the Nets WON'T get the first overall pick than they do. They only have a 25% shot of getting it.

Harris isn't as bad as you claim. NJN are just that bad. Someone has to take the shots on that team. Don't judge him because his team is awful and he was forced to play a role as lead scorer and shot taker that he wasn't ready for. The Nets misuse of him is a reflection of the team not Harris.

When he was with Dallas, he looked like he was on the verge of being a top tier pg. Everyone was scratching their head when they traded him for kidd. At that time Kidd was stuck on the Nets, where he was doing awful. When they made the trade, most people thought they were trading away their future pg for someone who was washed up. Kidd revived his career and Harris started to decline. See the common thread between the two?? Dallas=success Nets=failure.

If he's an option for a reasonable price, he's upgrade over any guard on our team right now.

Not really. He was pretty damned average during his entire tenure in Dallas. He only got hype as being a "top tier PG" after he blew up in New Jersey the first full year there. But he, like I predicted regressed the next year. He's not that great. Solid, but not great.
