Week 4 (10/4): Browns (1-2) @ Chargers (1-2) [4:05 PM EST, CBS]

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Did people think McCown really looked bad enough today to warrant putting Manziel in?

I guarantee you if Manziel gave us the better chance to win he'd play. He probably looks like crap in practice. Pettine wants to keep his job. It's as simple as that.
Mccown shouldnt be playing.

Or maybe it's blatantly obvious Manziel sucks and isn't in the plans.
coaches referred to the manziel plan. not I.

Browns have a good shot at going 2-6 this next stretch with Mccown. I expect we see how much Manziel sucks after 2 weeks tops.

Well if that's what they told the media, I'm guessing it's gospel.

I've been in favor of playing Manziel, but McCown surprised the hell out of me by having a very good game, as did almost the entire offense.

We lost today because of penalties and defense.

anyone saying shit about mccown this week either has no interest in the browns actually winning games this season, or is a JFF homer. McCown has now thrown for 700 yards in the last 2 games, with a 100+ QB rating.

the issue is this defense should be a top 10 defense and instead sucks monkey dick

Based on how he looked in the pre-season and his limited time in the regular season, I doubt he looks like crap in practice, especially against this awful defense. It likely has more to do with Pettine wanting to keep his job. He probably views being competitive as easier to sell.....hey "we're close!".

My preference in playing Manziel had nothing to do with how I thought McCown might play.....it had more to do with finding a potential resolution at that position. I don't see why you invest a 1st round pick in a guy and then opt to keep him on the bench in favor of an average journeyman QB. For a good NFL QB that can get you somewhere? Sure.....for McCown?....you just can't sell me on that. I have no idea if Manziel will even develop in to an average QB but I'd rather find that out than watch a guy who's going to get us nowhere guide us to a 4-12 record.

Browns now sit at 1-3 and have played just one team on the plus side of .500 (New York), who absolutely blasted them. Schedule only gets tougher from here on out. Team is going nowhere and yet we're going to keep carting out a guy who does nothing for us long term and only a little more in the short. I'm sure this is where all the people break out the "loser mentality" quotes. Have at it.

Why are we throwing the ball 89 times in two games? Regardless of what the statistical outcome was?

Today, the Browns averaged 4.8 yards per carry and only ran the ball 21 times? Maybe try to protect a struggling defense by shrinking the game a bit more?

I'm discouraged that our strategy is to throw it 45 times a game with McCown. What the net result is matters less to me because it's not a long term strategy that's going to get us anywhere IMO. I don't have a ton of confidence if the game plan this staff is formulating is to have McCown try to carry an offense with maybe one playmaker.

If you don't understand why the team doesn't operate on the assumption of "well McCown won't lead us anywhere other than 4-12," then none of us can really help you.

We lost today because of penalties and defense.

It's amazing. San Diego played without 3 of their starting linemen and had 2 of their 4 WRs leave the game with an injury and we STILL gave up 450 yards of total offense with only 2 sacks. And 12 penalties for 91 yards. God help us when our offense plays like everyone expects it to...

Having a staff that genuinely believes in someone like Josh McCown is far worse than the assumption I'm operating on.

Far be it from them to believe the guy who threw for 300 plus with no turnovers wasn't the problem...

Yeah, because that's what you should definitely expect from him over the course of the season.

He's more likely to throw for less than 150 yards (which he has done in 15 starts) than he is to throw for 300 (which he has done in 10).

I don't think I said anywhere that he was the issue today....my question has always been what is the point of playing a 36 year old journeymen QB if the end result is going to be very similar? I'm all for winning.......but when you're losing AND making short term decisions, I just don't get very excited about that.
