Would the Suns do it for Cleveland's pick and Osman?

(though this would then force Cle to have to use the Net's pick...)

So I'm actually confused by this? I don't think we are forced to use the Nets pick right? We could also, trade the Nets pick away as long as we get a 2018 First round pick back in the deal (unprotected).

So like, even if we traded the Cleveland pick, we could still (technically) do something like:

Cleveland Gets: Cousins, Golden State First Round Pick (unprotected)
NO Gets: BKN 1st Round pick, TT
GS Gets: Cedi Osman

Right? Not necessarily with golden state -- just any team that would have a guaranteed low-first round pick. A trade like that wouldn't be hard to work out, because the value of the rest of the trade will be so high, that it should be cheap to pay off a third team to trade a pick in the deal.

Doesn't seem like the Cavs have a lot of desire to trade either the Nets pick or Cedi.

I get the feeling that they see Osman, Zizic and the two 2018 firsts as the insurance policy in case Lebron bolts. That would give them four players plus whatever young talent they can get for Love to jumpstart a rebuild. Add in Tristan and maybe Crowder as reasonably young vets and you have the potential for a relatively quick rebound, if need be.

So in that framework, any trade involving those assets, especially the rookies and the draft picks, would have to be for something more than an incremental upgrade and/or rental. I think it would have to be an under-30 All-NBA caliber player on a multiyear contract -- so not Bledsoe (not enough of an upgrade) and definitely not Boogie (huge flight risk).

I may well be wrong, and they could of course panic, but this seems to be the prudent approach from an asset management perspective.

This is VERY sound logic.

The only way we're trading assets is if LeBron commits.

But, even if LeBron commits, there's plenty of reasons to keep the assets until the offseason. There's just not a lot of real upgrades available on the market right now.

This could change by the deadline, but I don't see it.

This is why I think if we get Bledsoe it will be IT with Frye or Shump to match salary. Bledsoe is a win now player but since he is under contract for 18-19 he becomes another asset to trade. IT isn't that asset, we might be able sign and trade him but that unlikely, if we sign him to a big contract he won't be tradable right away. It will be harder to trade him on a max or near max deal vs Bledsoe at 15 million.

Bookies are 3-0 on predicting Brooklyn's W/L so far this year. Tonight, Brooklyn is a 4.5 dog in Orlando, which is perhaps a good sign that Orlando can make good for its sins the past two games. If not, Brooklyn starts out 3-1 and I'll shit myself.

I'd take swap rights on the BK pick for Bledose + filler.

PHX: BKN Swap rights, Cedi, Shump
CLE: Bledsoe + lower of PHX or BK pick

To me, that's a trade that makes sense for both sides in a draft like this.

Phoenix gets a lotto boost for a franchise player, a young asset in Cedi and the Cavs get a quick injection of talent in Bledsoe while retaining a high value draft asset for a cheap young player.

Beyond that, there's nothing that would interest me for that pick. Not unless Booker is on the table.

Really need Orlando to come through tonight. Second time playing for these two teams already so it's key that they both suck and not Brooklyn just being a tier above them.

Am I the only person who thinks that the Nets pick is about to become devalued by the trade deadline? The very weak east and the hot start of the Nets has me worried enough to not be mad if the Cavs trade that pic away for a proven player that can make an impact against GS in the Finals.

The Cavs can trade their own pick, and trade the rights swap with the BKN pick. Or they could just get an awful pick back (like the one you mentioned) and freely trade both their own and the BKN pick.

Suffice to say, the Cavs can effectively trade both picks by trading their own, and then the rights to the BKN pick. They can also offer protection tiers on the BKN pick; so, if the pick lands between 15-30, it conveys, or if it's 5-30 it conveys, etc etc.

Like we talked about in the other thread, I would take swap rights only if it was protected; so, say, Top 1-3 protected?

Meh, no Payton for the Magic tonight either. One of their best players/defenders. Theyre using fucking DJ Augustin heavy minutes....yikes...

Magic going on a run to end the first half though...just took the lead.

Fucking DJ Augustin helped give it to the Cavs...

What’s gunna hurt pick is when all the crappy teams tank and Brooklyn keep trying to win.

And the Magic come roaring back to take the 2 point lead heading into halftime!

Aaron Gordon with an "Arrival" half

Err...tied. 61-61. Damn GameCast
