The Kyrie trade was an epic fuck up, epic. Hopefully we can still get something useful out of a lottery pick in this deep draft though.

Can't believe I am still getting disagrees saying that the Kyrie trade was a huge fuck up. We traded a top 15 player in the NBA for a late lottery pick and basically nothing else, except for a few contracts to trade and whatever Zizic turns out to be with our coaching staff in charge. We solved the Celtics single biggest problem for them in clearing IT out of the way, and we left the Celtics with all their best young prospects, their best lottery pick (Lakers/Sacramento), and even their best bench players (e.g. Rozier). Explain to me how that's not totally getting screwed in a trade.

Yea I think if the Wiz get bounced in round 1, particularly by a hobbled Celtics team, they HAVE to think about moving Beal or Wall. That's our spot to try and strike.

But I wouldn't say it's a guarantee we can get him. I can easily see Washington waiting until later in the off-season to see if some deals materialize. Teams that may wait to see if they land a big free agent or whatnot. Kinda like Boston did with Irving after landing Hayward.

Cause both Washington and Portland are tied to their point guards. The idea that they can just bottom out and take draft picks and young players, like the Bulls did with Butler, might not be the direction they choose to go. Not while Wall or Lillard are on their teams.

I think you're looking at not just salary filler, but potentially Clarkson and/or Nance being on the table for some of these players. These teams have to juggle both lowering their long term salary while remaining as competitive as possible with their all-star point guards.

Kind of a big game at 1 with Indiana and Charlotte. If Indiana loses that locks up 4 and we can go ahead and drop the last game against New York if the 3 seed is out of reach.

We likely won't know the 3 seed is out of reach until the season is over. Both us and Philly play our final game Wednesday at 8pm.

Philly can clinch with wins in their next two games...against the Mavs and the Hawks. Would be shocking if they lose either of those.

No, they can't. Not if we beat the Knicks. We hold the tiebreaker over Philly since we will win our division. (H2H was tied 2-2).

Damn, you're right, my bad. Keep forgetting we actually won our division (though I guess we'd have the tiebreak on better conference record anyway).

EDIT: Before someone corrects me, I know we technically haven't clinched over the Pacers yet, but that's not the scenario at hand if we're talking about the tiebreak with Philly.

I'll tell you what the big fuck up was, whoever medically gave the ok to take Thomas thinking he would be usable this year should be fired immediately.
I don't think we can totally blame Koby for that. If the medical staff gave the ok by saying he would be back to his old self by January they really effed up.
Even a layperson had to question the sanity of that possibility. Honestly Thomas should have just had the damn surgery last May,,,then we wouldn't have been in that position to begin with.

Who do you think Portland and Wizards would rather have for CJ and Beal respectively?

Love or The Nets Pick?

If they want Love, would you be willing to trade Love for CJ or Beal?

Just gonna say that Portland would improve signicantly if they traded CJ for Love.

It's clear to me the medical staff DID ring the alarm about IT, that's why the trade was delayed a week and publicly reconsidered. I have never in my life seen a trade delayed and put into question like that based on the medical check after it was publicly announced, and then go through, so there's no doubt in my mind that the medical staff raised major concerns. The injury just sealed the deal on IT -- he was an awful fit regardless. He is a system player and it takes a really good system coach to cover up for his defensive shortcomings. We did not have that coach or that organization. And even for Boston IT was a major handicap for them in the postseason because of defense.

Shooting from the hip here, but Love+pick for CJ, Aminu, and their pick? That's gotta be really tempting for the Blazers...
