Welcome Larry Sanders and So Long

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think they are just challenging him in an attempt to get him going. The question of how to get Sanders motivated was never answered properly in Milwaukee so who knows how he takes it. My biggest concern is almost what to do after NEXT season. I SURE don't want to give him a long term deal...

As far as risk/reward goes its a fine proposition. They are paying him league min for 20+ games and control his rights at league min for another full season after that.

FO obviously went with the higher ceiling player but I don't see how we are going to extend him past the 2017-2018 season even if he plays like a prime Mutombo. That would be insane.
You just can't sweep his history under the rug and ignore it.

I'm happy they got him to agree to so much....but man, if this is the BEST offer he got, what does that say everyone else thought?

And I don't want to hear "well he was holding out for the Cavs" stuff. No way after the Cavs signed Bogut that Sanders was out there passing on offer after offer from other teams. No shot. If he had something, he'd have taken it.

Would you go with Moreland instead?

How low of an opinion do you have on the genpop that this was a line you had to preemptively counter

Just looked at his Instagram account.

YIKES.

The dude's calves are so skinny, they make @Damage 's look like tree trunks.

Have you seen former DPOTY Tyson Chandler's legs?

I just want it on the record that @The Oi looks exactly like this Larry Sanders, but with curlier hair.

That Larry Sanders is way hotter than me.

While we're putting things OTR, we should mention our hairline contest where we determined that @Deezus hairline was 3 inches back from mine and that he tries to push his up using a faux Ceasar cut whenever he works out a la the late 90's boy band baby bangs look.

It's thinner than Larry Sanders' calves.

The NG contract extension for next year will be interesting to know about. It gives us a trade chip for a team that may need to dump salary (Portland comes to mind).

You cant fully sweep his history under the rug but i would disagree here..
IF(really big If) he can help us in a few minutes in the Playoffs this year and plays great 15-20 Minutes next year .. all with no personal issues i would happily resign him. Dont give him a super long term deal. 2 years max 3. But IF he plays good and keeps his head fine... i think everybody deserves a second chance... hell even Lebron said exactly that when asked about Larry..

I'm sorry...but who the hell cares about what everyone else thought about him?

McGee got no interest from anyone but the Warriors, and people laughed at that signing when it took place...you think teams would have interest in him now?

Also, if what is being said is true, him and his "camp" were holding out to join the Cavs. I think if Bogut doesn't get hurt, he's signed by us this summer anyways...we probably told him as much.

There was a point in time where NY couldn't pay a team to take J.R. in a trade. 2 years later, and he's an NBA champion, damn near model citizen and an integral piece of a team trying to repeat.

Certain guys need the right situation to grow up and refocus. Maybe Cleveland will be that for Sanders. If it isn't, he'll be gone fairly quickly and at relatively no cost to the team.

Ultimately, a guy like Sanders needs a team like the Cavs to believe in him to get another shot. A contender, with a good infrastructure and team culture, that allows him to be in a perfect situation. Without that, it makes little sense to gamble on him. The nature of him not having options is a result of many teams thinking it is not worth the time (because they don't have LeBron, or a title, or a good culture, or all of the above).

The Cavs think it is a calculated gamble worth taking based on culture, cost and Sanders remaining talent. It's a decision many other teams can't consider making because they don't have the ability to insulate him from the noise.

It's pretty ridiculous to to read posts here saying that because Sanders is being sent to Canton to get in game shape the FO is extremely "low" on him. Sending him to Canton is the only way to accelerate his conditioning and timing. It indicates that the front office sees him as a piece who can help us in the playoffs. Sometimes it's hard to read some of the unbelievably stupid takes here.

It's also because our team doesn't practice...our practices are "defensive walkthroughs". He's not going to get anything, physically, out of those. Being around the guys and seeing the scheme help, as would working out in the Cavs practice facility with NBA coaches and trainers, but not playing in 5 on 5s would hurt his progress towards getting into game shape. So send him somewhere where he can do just that without having to do it in the middle of an NBA game.

really none of us know anything about his conditioning of mental state. The front office obviously felt after Bpgut he was the best option...so he must at least have showed them something in his workout...I could care less what othere teams felt...we need defense and intimidation at the rim...if he gives us a little of that its worth it...

Clearly the highest upside of anyone available. Without playing NBA basketball so long, I wonder how long it will take to adjust on every level. At least his job description shouldn't be too complicated. Just provide a lot of energy, rebounding, and defense. And dunk if you are set up. I just wonder how long it will take him to be that defensive force again.

The off the court stuff is one thing. I'm not that worried about it. I'm more worried about his attitude on the court. He can be a hot head that gets techs. I don't mind the toughness and a little bit of an attitude, this team could use it sometimes. But he has to be smart and not jeopardize team success.

But we got LBJ. If LeBron can't save his career, no one can.
