I'm happy they got him to agree to so much....but man, if this is the BEST offer he got, what does that say everyone else thought?
And I don't want to hear "well he was holding out for the Cavs" stuff. No way after the Cavs signed Bogut that Sanders was out there passing on offer after offer from other teams. No shot. If he had something, he'd have taken it.
I don't know, I mean he could have waited for the Cavs to decide if they were going to waive Liggins for Sanders, and Griff and Larry's agent could have had an open dialogue throughout the past few weeks, then once Bogut went down the talks progressed beyond just maybe signing him, to actually offering a contract.
It's been reported 15 other teams showed interest in him. 15. That's a pretty large number, and Golden State was also one of them according to those same reports, and some of their beat guys. So it's not like he had no other teams showing interest. Maybe those teams didn't offer a contract, yet, but they definitely were watching the situation and considering it.
Once Bogut went down it was pretty clear they were going after him. I was told and heard from a few people that this was their plan B if Bogut decided to go elsewhere, and it was also an option like I said for the Cavs if they wanted to waive Liggins and bring Sanders on board with this same type of deal. It would have made sense for sure.
As far as him going down to the D-League. Good call. He hasn't played an NBA game in what, 2 years? He needs to burn some minutes where the game speed isn't at an all-time high. He needs to graduate a little bit, and spending a week or 2 down there isn't the worst idea. It's actually smart.
A lot of people do need to lower their expectations of what Sanders could potentially bring to the team. But he does have that potential, and with this current group of guys - mainly LeBron, he can have success around.. That was honestly probably a strong selling point for him and his camp.
As much as I wanna believe he's going to return to his old form, and average 5 blocks a game, I know that's far from reality.
But could he shake off the rust and produce enough to get key minutes? I think so.
I'm definitely excited and intrigued to see him with the Cavs.
Sent from my Galaxy Edge. Don't forget that the Golden State Warriors blew a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals.
