Welcome Shawn Marion #31

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If this last week of the season pushes Marion ahead of James Jones in the postseason rotation, I'll be ecstatic. Marion's ability to defend would come in very handy against Toronto and Atlanta, who both feature some smaller 3-4 hybrid guys and big perimeter players.
I just really, really want James Jones out of the rotation.

I could definitely see Blatt keeping James Jones on a short leash for the playoffs. The thing working against Marion is that his 3 point shot is not reliable so if Marion subs for K Love then you lose that floor spacing element. Maybe if Marion hustles in these last few games he will show Blatt something.

How cool was it that The Matrix gets a game ending steal and dunk to end his last-ever regular season game. Hopefully he'll get a few more highlights in the Cavs playoff run but man, I was so happy for him here. The rest of the Cavs were too, which jacked it up even higher for me.

Just finished the game replay from today. If that final steal, dunk, Marion smile, bench reaction and jubilant celebration doesn't 1. warm your heart and 2. prepare you for the Playoffs like no tomorrow, then I really don't know what to say. Just great scenes to close out the regular season!

- Shawn ending the regular season like that is kinda fitting. Blatt says that Marion should be in the Hall of Fame in the future. He is appreciated, loved and respected in the team.

If that's so true (and it is...), why aren't you playing him in the regular rotation, David?

The only reason I can think of for this is Marion has been diagnosed with some career-threatening condition and is just trying to ride out the season w/o aggravating something. I just can't think that the hip is just that bad that they're still afraid it's going to turn to sawdust if he plays actual rotation minutes, or that having a baby causes you to lose all interest in competing with the league's best team with an obvious need of the defense and "team-gel" you bring to the table.

Leaving a guy with that much ability and postseason experience out of the rotation makes NO sense if that's not the case, especially with Blatt revealing several times that he believes Shawn is a Hall-of Famer. Sure there probably was some friction during the first 2 months of losing and uncertainty with Blatt's style, but enough to cause enough fallout that he doesn't even play someone he believes to be a Hall-of-Famer? WTF? I half-expect Marion to reveal something over the next 3-6 months, although he has played his cards close to the vest expertly with the instagram pics and "yay team" tweets.

Anyone else felt bittersweet happy sad after that Marion steal dunk? Really hated this guy in the past just the fact for him being a Sun, Heater, and a Maverick.

When Kobe, who I hate yet highly respect, leaves that may make me tear up. My generation is ending before my eyes.

I would be really euphoric if the gang helps him get his second ring.

The last game of the regular season gave me a perspective: If necessary, we CAN call on Marion to be a spot-rotational player or a regular during a series (or 2/3/4) in the playoffs.

We had been doing so well that we didn't NEED to call on him, and his injury not only allowed us to rest him (since Shumpy was able to fill the role to a tee), but now will give him the health needed to contribute the max effort/efficiency. It's a blessing in disguise.

In fact, I expect Marion to be called upon at a certain point (if we get far enough). Shump can bring the defense, but I don't know if being forced to switch and guard guys like Milsap/Horford, Bulls' frontcourt, even Duncan on a regular basis in crunch time is completely possible. Marion is experienced in dealing with frontcourt guys on D, something we lack to a degree. You can try, but there's no guarantee that Thompson, Love, and LeBron will be able to cover that frontcourt need.

he will play a huge role at some point and it might not be till east finals but if we win it all Marion would have played a part

Yeah I expect the Cavs to go small at some point with Lebron at the 4. We'll need Marion as both JR and Shump are on the smallish side if you need a guy able to switch onto the opposing teams 3/4.

Against Atlanta, I could even see the Cavs run something like TT, Lebron, Marion, JR, and Shumpert just to throw an all defensive lineup out there and force a guy like Milsap if they want to keep him in there to guard on the perimeter

One really cool thing about our team is that it's usually really good at staying out of foul trouble. The playoffs are a bit different but how often do Love, Kyrie and LeBron foul out of games?

I think the guy most likely to get into foul trouble would be Mozgov, and then also possibly TT. Mozgov will hopefully be playing increased minutes and so this is when we probably have to look at that big clumsy Perkins guy, who looks like he stepped into some sort of time warp and suddenly became 36. Maybe if Mozgov gets in foul trouble we could go with smaller lineups sometimes and use guys like Marion or Miller.

I did see some fire in Marion at the end of the season.

This is his last hurrah....and he's going against the team that he turned down in free agency.

That also is his hometown. I expect him to give it everything he has on the defensive side of the ball.
