Welcome Shawn Marion #31

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Why don't you ask Blatt directly about it (why he doesn't play Marion)?

TBH, I feel it would be rude to ask when the 3rd/4th/5th/7th? guy off the bench isn't playing

I asked about the rotation which is short and has been. In March he said he expected to play more people than his 8-man (delly, TT, Jones) rotation, but come April he hadn't and I asked and he said "I like what we're getting from the guys we're putting out there."

As he is loathe to throw anyone under a bus, i'ts unlikely he will say something negative as a justification for not playing Marion, so as I see it, the best I'm going to get is that.

A few weeks ago I asked him about Marion's 3pt shot and if he trusted it enuf to use him as a spacer (asked after Love injury) -- you can probably find the video I clipped of his answer on my twitter (@CRS_1ne) -- but he was so stumped it was several seconds maybe 10 before he replied and said, "If he's open he can shoot it."

Would you call that a ringing endorsement? After that I wasn't sure Marion would play again, but Ky's injury could change that. He'd be a very good cover for millsap who doesn't have a strong post game.

If Kyrie's minutes have to go to another player, I would hope it'd be Marion. With no Kyrie, I think this team has to go full-on 06-07 Cavs, damn the spacing, slow the game to a crawl, defend, rebound, and count on LeBron to score just enough to beat the other team.

Posted this in the game thread too, but I don't see Marion suddenly getting minutes. He didn't even get to play in garbage time game 6 vs Chicago. For whatever reason, seems like Blatt doesn't want to play him. I think it's worth it for his defense, but he probably isn't going to play.

I agree. If he didn't see the light in late March, or certainly by the Bulls series- there's no reason he'd see it now. I really thought there was some lingering issue from the injury, but seeing as Shawn played 21 26 & 33 mins in 3 of the last 4 reg season games, I honestly don't know WTF :dunno:

To me, this has been the biggest waste of a resource I've seen in the last 10 years.

Chris did ask it, and this was Blatt's response...
(2:16)...guys that are on the, guys that are on the bench, and haven't been playing much...like Shaawn (2:20)...and, uh, Mike Miller (2:23)...uhhmmmmm...ya know, uhuhahIahhhh (shrugs) an...Perk?! :conf (11):(2:30) :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Gaaawd....this isn't making me feel any better :chuckle:

I see your point, it would be a rude question, but at a certain point it almost has to be asked, right? If Kyrie is out we are down to basically six decent players, and we have a guy who is a borderline HOF candidate and had a solid year last year, and he can't even sniff the court? There must be a reason or it's ridiculous.

Unfortunately, I think Marion was upset about his fluctuating minutes earlier this year, especially post-trades, and he and Blatt have a detente where he doesn't play small minutes off the bench.

Cavsfever-

Yeah, sometimes I've wondered if Marion said something. I seem to recall there was a game that Marion didn't play. It was the first game he had ever not played if he wasn't injured -- he'd never gotten a DNP-CD. and I asked Blatt about it and he seemed completely surprised. Now what if Marion said something that prompted Blatt to tell him to get used to the fucking idea because you won't see much daylight from now on. Like I don't know, but the way he's been bench-warmed since Feb doesn't give me much faith. Maybe Blatt just doesn't think he can play. Don't know. But I NOTICED when Marion came in and got those TWO STEALS in the final minute of the quarter, LeBron on the podium pointed it out and said what a spark he was. Could he have been signaling his support? Who knows, but his playing time has been so perplexing it's led me to conspiracy theories....

Didn't he play in Game 1 against Chicago? I don't think he did much in some limited minutes
Appeared effective to close a quarter against Boston. I don't think Marion is good enough to be a replacement JR Smith which is what we needed in Game 1 but perhaps Blatt wasn't impressed that game.

Personally, I think he'd look much better in the role we'd want in him for this series which is a defensive with shooters/offensive players around him. Don't think anyone would look good in lineups with Miller in them frankly

Just checked. He played 6 minutes game 1. I agree, now that we are a defensively minded team, I think he'd fit in much better than Miller.

So we've become a defensive juggernaut and our depth is really an issue at this point...I can't see any good reason why Blatt doesn't uncork Marion at this point, even if it's just to spell LeBron for a few minutes.....

He is supposedly injured.

But I agree, Marion could definitely be used to get our guys some rest. I think he can do well on Iggy.

Unless Marion is truly hurt with the calf injury he should at least play in the first half.
Gotta figure out how to spot LeBron a few mins.

Not sure I buy that injury. H'es had the same "injury" since Jan. Isn't like he looks limited in pre game. Just watched him working with Coach Handy on drives and pullups.

Just no Blatt Love imo....

Blatt needs to put aside whatever petty grievances he has and play the fuckin guy. This is the championship after all, I'd hate to think our coaching staff isn't putting is in the optimal position to win because of personal bias.
