Try to get Kidd and Ariza and a possible deal for Tyson Chandler. That's what im looking to see happen.
If we win the championship, we could still go multiple routes. We could keep the team nearly the same with slightly significant free agent signings or we could push for some big trades.
Priorities:
-Re-sign Varejao immediately, lock him up and move on to other things
-Make an offer to Jason Kidd, if he wants to play for our bench he is more than welcome to
-Make an offer to Trevor Ariza and try to pry him from LA
-Make Ben available and possibly Pavlovic if we haven't traded him for a draft pick yet
-Use the two assets above to push trades for Shaq, Tyson Chandler, or Bosh
I think if we don't win this year, we will go for the Shaq route, but if we do win, Chandler will be a nice, young option to go with
Bosh is still a dream and always will be, and if we do get him it won't be until the deadline next year.
First, I really don't see Cleveland bothering to out-bid Mark Cuban for Kidd. Cuban's going to offer more years and Kidd will stay there. That talk is all smoke and no fire.
I see the off season priorities like this--
1) Resign Varejao. If the Cavs can't get him back, then they will use the full MLE on a desperation replacement until a trade can be worked out.
2) Start shopping Sasha's partially guaranteed contract as soon as the last game is over. Teams looking to create more cap space might give up talent or draft picks to get him.
3) Bring back Wally and Joe Smith on affordable deals for 1-2 years. If they can't do that, then shop the free agent market with the MLE for some "just above minimum salary" bargains.
4) Cross fingers and hope that someone useful can come out of the draft.
Ben's contract isn't going to be valuable until next winter, but if the Nets offer Vince Carter for him, you can't pass that up.
