"Trade Deadline Decisions

Of course, this also raises the question of what the Bucks should be looking to do with the trade deadline approaching in four weeks. Trading Redd is no longer an option, so to me the idea of trading Jefferson becomes the primary question. I know the Bucks don't want to go into an all-out rebuild, but hanging on to Jefferson at the risk of losing Villanueva and Sessions just doesn't really add up.

With Redd gone, the Bucks might still be able to sneak into the playoffs but their best-case scenario--getting Bogut healthy, finding a groove in the last few months, and being a team capable of pulling off a first round upset--just isn't realistic anymore. Heck, even if Redd wasn't hurt you can make a very good case that they should quit messing around and do everything they can to keep their young players at the cost of winning now, since the vets aren't good enough to make them contenders anytime soon anyway.

So unless the Bucks think they can parlay Sessions or Villanueva into another good young player or two--and I have my doubts that someone like Mike Conley exactly fits the bill--it's Jefferson who should be the guy they're looking to move. As we've talked about in the fanposts, a team like Portland could be a good trading partner given they have expiring contracts (LaFrentz), a decent spare swingman (Travis Outlaw) and plenty of decent young players and future draft picks. Are they actually interested in him? Tough to say.

For the Bucks it all comes down to tradeoffs. While Jefferson's veteran presence has been of particular value on the defensive end, he's not quite the game-changer he once was so losing him may not hurt the Bucks on the court as much as one might expect. And more importantly, for a team that should be more focused on the future than near-term respectability, the idea of losing Sessions or Villanueva for nothing because Jefferson's making $14.2 million next season doesn't make much sense.

I'm not sure how valuable Jefferson is at the moment, but let's hope the Bucks are at least exploring their options. While the Bucks need a respectable season to regain some of the fanbase they've lost in recent years, short-term respectability shouldn't come at the cost of long-term competitiveness."

-Seems to me even Bucks fans realize that trading Jefferson might be their best course of action considering they may lose Charlie V and Ramon Sessions if they aren't willing to spend...

Wiretap on RealGM says that Villanueva is likely the odd man out in Milwaukee

really....i'd love to grab villanueva, we need a 2nd big man who can hit a jumper, since we already have two who can't.

What about a deal like this?

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/featur...72~831~1006~2792&teams=15~15~15~5~5&te=&cash=

With a first round and two seconds to milwaukee.... i'm not sure exactly why milwaukee would do that (since Villanueva seems valuable)...but it basically sets us up (only Miller/Salmons fills both needs as well...the advantage is that these guys are much younger)

The only downside is that once we resign AV and Villaneuva at the end of the season, we are effectively out of cap space through 2010....although we still have the MLE and a couple expirings to get another small piece or two

I didn't read through this entire thread so this could have already been brought up but a number of the guys on this list are BYC are they not? those guys don't often get moved because you don't get equal value back.

Ummmm... I don't really want to lose JJ at the cost of someone like Villa, who basically doesn't "get" defense. Darnell I would rather lose, though of course you can't have your cake and eat it too.

no way I give up JJ in that trade

Milwaukee' forward Charlie Villanueva is believed by many to be the most likely player to be dealt by the team prior to next month's trade deadline.

Rival executives feel as though the Bucks would love to trade Michael Redd's contract, but his recent season-ending injury ends all possibilty of that happening.

The Bucks had recent talks with the Grizzlies about a trade involving rookie Joe Alexander and guard Ramon Sessions, but negotiations appear to have broken down.

Via espn, but on the realgm wiretap.

personally, i'd like R.J over villanueva. Jefferson plays defense and could potentially be the true sidekick lebron needs for some time to come

Our options could be getting thin.....

Redd- Out for the season, was probably never really an option anyways.
AK47- Might have foot surgery which will probably keep him out past the deadline.
B.Miller- We already declined a deal that supposedly would have been Wally for him straight up. Don't know if the Cavs will revisit this deal if all else fails.
VC- His status is still up in the air, but with Redd going down the Nets could have a one way ticket to that 8th seed.

Where did you hear of this Wally for Miller proposal?

And I never really viewed Redd, AK47, or VC as very realistic for the Cavs anyway. The main thing I'm concerned with is whether G. Wallace is still a possibility with how well he's been playing.

If you look down, you'll see a thread by me called 'Chris Broussard updates the Cavs trade front..."

He said the Kings offered it but we wanted Mike Miller from the Wolves. But WG shot down the Miller rumor for now.
