Also the god known as Mercury featured on Mercury dime design.Guys and gals, Guardians is the answer for the new name of our beloved baseball club. It's a no-brainer in my opinion:
1. First and foremost, it's relevant to Cleveland, which to me is essential. I don't want to see some generic nickname that has nothing to do with the area like Comets, Coyotes or Crushers, etc. Not only is Guardians relevant to the city, but I would argue that it's one of the most commonly associated images with Cleveland.
2. Instantly, you have yourselves an incredibly badass logo to thrown on ballcaps, jerseys and other merchandise:

It's a powerful, strong logo that in some ways is the complete opposite of Wahoo. Instead of a goofy, disrespectful caricature, you have a depiction of an iconic symbol locally that projects inclusion.
3. Phonetically, it's about as close as you'll find to Indians making the transition a bit easier.
4. Speaks for itself.

Not giving the team a name is an option that's been raised, but generally not popular. Personally I don't think it's a bad idea overall but it would be radical and pioneering. Think about it.
The Cleveland Baseball Team.
Keeping the block C, but riffing on it constantly.
You could have "Guardian Week" where you celebrate the armed forces and or police. While acknowledging/helping related charities.
Or Motor week. Where you highlight the automobile industry around Cleveland. Give away a hot rod mustang one night or a set of Goodyear tires.. that come on a car, etc.
Pierogi nights.
History games. Within reason they're the Spiders or Naps or.
What if they had "famous" rock bands play between innings?
Options are endless.
How'd I miss 10 cent beer night?!?!! D'oh10 cent beer week?
Spiders are unique to Cleveland, in that Cleveland in the only N. American city to have had a franchise with the nickname Spiders. We aren’t even the only city to have had franchises named the Browns and Indians. The Spiders were a National League team in the late 1800's that was not a part of or connected to the franchise we currently cheer for. "Spiders" is in no way unique to Cleveland.
The “Guardians” have been an iconic Cleveland landmark since 1932, flanking the Hope Memorial Bridge — the gateway to downtown Cleveland directly by Progressive Field. Guardians fits perfectly with our local catchphrases like "Defend the Land" and "Cleveland vs the World". Most of all, as I've noted, moving from "Indians" to "Guardians" is literally just changing one syllable. You keep your branding and keep your connection to the team we love now instead of starting over.
That's the thing.. The Cleveland Spiders has enormous marketing potential.Spiders are unique to Cleveland, in that Cleveland in the only N. American city to have had a franchise with the nickname Spiders. We aren’t even the only city to have had franchises named the Browns and Indians.
And did I mention the logo possibilities?

Much more than the Guardians does. Especially if this Space Force thing is an actuality.
Now you're just being absurdI don't mind the Block C, but I really hate Red lettering on a Blue field.
We're talking about a small connection from the 1800s here. I'm sure that fact is true to the "Naps" name as well.
Spiders would have a ton of marketing potential for kids, if that's the route they want to go. Serious question though - are the current uniforms/names really a marketing issue? The only compliants I've ever heard are related to Block C - people generally like the uniforms, colors, etc. Spiders is starting over, Guardians is a slight shift from the current brand.
None of the names sound good to me, but I'm sure I'll get used to whatever they go with. I have no issue calling the stadium Progressive Field after all these years.
I do like the name "Naps" and the history that goes with it, but I got bullied pretty hard for that take
