Why Isn't Delonte West in the NBA? (Long)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Because nobody wants to see his herps while playing 2k...

Wow, he's only 30? I wonder if LeBron hates having a step dad so close to his age. Probably a lot of resentment issues there.

The article details exactly what has happened in this thread so far.

I don’t even deserve to play basketball this year, man. I’m too embarrassed, man. I can’t deal with the laughter.”

“My sanctuary, my place of peace, became the joke of my life,” he said in 2012. “Right now I’m just a guy who’s trying to stop getting laughed at.” He came back to the same point in an interview a year later. “When I played basketball, because I worked so hard, it’s always been the one place where people couldn’t laugh at me. All of a sudden the laughter is now coming from the mainstream. Everywhere I look, the joke is on me.”

I love the dude but he was an absolute mess. I actually kind of thought something more awful would have happened to him by now. I hope that he;s staying out of trouble.

I love Delonte. He has a lot of talent, his head needs to be in the right place though.

Delonte, one of the few players in the LeBron era that actually played up to expectation when it mattered most.

I hope he makes it back into the NBA.

It's too bad his head isn't on straight. He was fantastic for us when his mind was right.

The only non LeBron Cav that I was sad to see go.

Man you guys are some mother fuckers. Read the article and then say that shit.

Always liked Delonte, he's as tough of a player as you'll ever find on any level.

Just goes to show what the media is capable of doing when they have an agenda, or feel like being lazy. The first things that came to your mind were the rumors the media helped plant inside your heads.

It's really quite scary how we take things at face value, and believe anything that comes from "an authority".

Just because the media writes it, doesn't mean it's true.

God Bless brother West. Wish they were 1/2 as tough as you. Instead we have the pussified NBA. Delonte could have played in the Jordan era and still been every bit as successful.

That whole arsenal of weaponry in a guitar case was pretty indicative of some serious issues. It also happened to be the same time the Wizards had their own issues with players and guns. Dude clearly had issues going on. You can't blame NBA teams for not wanting to add that kind of stuff to their locker room for an average player.

The hot sauce video he made sitting at KFC still makes me laugh every time I see it.

most "Delonte 08-09" quote in the article...

The name Cash, West told me, laughing, echoes “Cassius Clay, Johnny Cash, and his daddy’s jump shot,” which “is money.”

wish him the best moving forward

If you all knew the off the court stories, you'd get a better idea of why he's not in the NBA. Good guy, but there are issues that teams cannot deal with.

Obviously I supported Delonte considering the fact that I still carry him with me in my avatar but as a Mod, I was in the loop with regard to some things that were going on with him and how it impacted the team. I vowed at that time not to share any of it and even though it's been nearly 5 years, I still won't but trust me, he was a huge distraction, one that if he wasn't so likable, would have gotten him released with the quickness had he not been around such a patient and accommodating organization. He has a serious condition and we were very much in the infancy stages of trying to treat him for it and seeing what worked but man, just based on his actions, it's hard to justify him still being the league if he hasn't stabilized quite a bit.
