Why Isn't Delonte West in the NBA? (Long)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Well you can erase the Clippers from LeBron's potential destinations amirite?

I don't think there's a team he could go to where I wouldn't still cheer for him. You wonder what his potential would be if he didn't have the issues. By far one of my favorite Cavs.

wow, another reason to hate Bill Simmons

Bill Simmons suggested on his enormously popular podcast that the rumored dalliance could explain why James left Cleveland. “It does make you wonder,” Simmons said. “Something happened.”

wow, another reason to hate Bill Simmons

Bill Simmons is an over-glorified fan. He is a hack of a writer, and barely knows what he is talking about when he is doing his little halftime shows. His articles belong on Fansided or Bleacher Report, not Grantland.

Just want to chime in for a sec to Frank, and also regarding Bill Simmons...

When the rumor dropped about Gloria and Delonte, I thought honestly LeBron's team just went nuts with a phoney story to justify his departure. Then, as time moved on, posters, and then posters I know, as well as friends I know (who I also am sure could certainly know) were verifying the rumor.

I don't know shit because I wasn't physically there to observe anything. But everyone that I trust on the subject tells me "yes, it did happen."

From what I know about James' mom, it's so in her motif and I've heard this and understood it for years. I know that my little brother's friends worked for the Cavaliers during the 2010 season in a fairly menial job, but had enough access to overhear the players. Well, he overheard quite a bit and he was just one of the people who verified the story, saying it was absolutely true and everyone on the team found out during the playoffs.

Again, rumors... you walk away thinking.. alright man, I heard you, but, that doesn't mean I believe you. But again, so many people I know who had some actual personal ties with LeBron James or his crew would say "yep.. it did, but that's how Gloria is, you just gotta see her in real life and it makes perfect sense. Bitch is a cluck."

Coming back back to modern day, you've got Gloria James in Miami, seemingly insta-engaged to the first 30 year-old rapper she could find in ex-convict/dope-dealer "Da Real Lambo."

The dude is almost exactly my age, and is only 8 months older than Delonte West. Now why would Gloria James want a man who is about 15 years younger than her, who is very near her son's age, is an ex-convict, and is so obviously only interested in the limelight? Because that's Gloria James.. She doesn't give a fuck about any of that, and yes, her ideal man is basically a micro-thug-type who should be very near her son's age.

So... "Why Isn't Delonte West in the NBA?"

Well you mean, besides driving down the street with a bag full of guns; besides that, if Delonte West couldn't help himself to simply avoid fucking his teammate's mother, who is to say he won't fuck a new teammate's girlfriend, wife, sister, or even a staff member, whatever it might be - if given the chance? Some sports fans don't realize that this shit happens way too often, especially in the NBA, and it causes problems both on and off-the-court.

At worst it's a very undesirable type of person to have around, and I mean that with respect, but seriously I'm not fucking my friend's mother (especially if she looks like Gloria and I can have any bitch I want practically). At best, it's just a major distraction.

Long story short, his professional career pretty much ended in those playoffs. For a multitude of reasons. If I was a GM, I probably wouldn't risk having him on my team, and if I was a coach I wouldn't want him around either.

Great article. West won my heart over within months of becoming a Cavalier with his play on the court. It saddens me to see him get basically blackballed from the NBA. I don't know exactly what he has and hasn't done, so I can't really judge him on a bunch of baseless rumors. But just listening to Delonte I know he's a genuinely good guy who could have possibly made some poor decisions... But who doesn't in their early 20's.

Regardless of all the bull shit, if he does end up on an NBA team again he will instantly become my favorite player again. I've always loved his game and I hope he gets another shot.

I think the Clippers with Doc Rivers would be a great situation for him. Hell, Delonte was a terrific starting 2-guard for us when his head was on straight. I know it's incredibly unlikely considering the circumstances, but I believe the Clips would be a better team with Redz starting next to CP3. Not only does he provide the versatility on offense that the 2-PG line-up with Collison provides, he also gives the Clips a legit defensive player at the two.

I know it's a long shot, but hey, I can dream...

Great article, but it sounds like there's more to this than what was reported. That said, there's an important point in there about treating athletes as humans. Its often justified that because they are super-talented in a sport where they make millions of dollars, the fan shouldn't feel sorry for them. It isn't worth arguing about, it comes with the territory, and it will never totally change, but it's crazy how fans on the internet and in stadiums, where they have the protection of anonymity, will say some really callous things. Things that they wouldn't dare say in front of their mothers. Not witty things, not strange things to distract an opponent, but straight scathing, personal things. It isn't that I am against joking around, but there's so many other forms of wit/humor that are way better than creating a few chuckles at the expense of someone else's frown. That isn't just an athlete thing either, that's a life thing.

Will never forget him trying like Hell to lock down Hedo. I think he had a quote that totally summed him up as a player,

a rumour that doesn't die, usually isn't a rumour.
