Windy just doesn't want to get fired by ESPN if he doesn't find at least 5 other reasons why the Warriors lost that had nothing to do with the Cavs.

Reason #6: Menstrual cramps are no joke, dude.

It's hard to focus when mensies strike!

The problem with patience about the roster is that in the meantime we run up excess mileage on starters, and risk injuries that - for example in the frontcourt -- that would be debilitating and reduce the team's leverage to squat. I mean maybe you play Love at center if Channing goes down? IDK, I don't like to think about it.

As a fan, I agree with this statement as well. And my heart is saying this as well.

But my brain is telling me otherwise.

David Griffin still has to negotiate with the opposing teams' management. And trying to make a deal quicker (especially with the bare cupboard) is suicide. He loses any room to make the fair deal, which every other team realizes.

We are already at high risk given our players' injury history and the off-chance we run them into the ground in the process. But as fans, we love movement. It really does suck to have it go this way.

But it's possible the wait may be worth every bit of our time. We are the defending champions, until proven otherwise.

Windy going out on a limb here

14th best player on the team getting cut

Damn

Pours out some liquor for that scrub

14th not 13th? So which player with season ending injuries is better than the one with no injury, Mo or Birdman?

:chuckle:

He's still an NBA player who will beat you one-on-one.

The problem with calling for "patience" with this roster is that we are headed in a downward direction, and being more patient just means you go further downward. There is basically little or no upside left to this roster. We have a core of like five or six good to excellent players performing at peak ability or close to it (and that is if you count JR who I do NOT believe will be able to return this year at playoff level skills, and assumes Shumpert keeps up his performance). Then essentially everyone else on the roster is either on the downslope or will be out of the league in short order. (Liggins and Felder complicate this a little but not much -- Felder seems like a limited player who may not stick in the NBA and Liggins is a good defensive role player with limited upside). A roster like that leaves you extremely vulnerable in the short term and just keeps getting worse the longer you wait. At SOME point Gilbert is going to have to shop around and shell out $$$, and the sooner that happens the better, because we need to maximize Lebron's window.

Waiting for aging veteran ring chasers to sign on during the off season is a losing strategy that will lead to disaster - we have had ONE hit with a guy like that (RJ) and lots of misses.

Having the opportunity of a really excellent core of starting players like we do is very rare, and it won't last that long. Blowing the opportunity for a multiple-championship run by shortchanging the bench would be a sad thing.

* Cavs wanted Korver and Frye years ago
* Cavs had Frye in for a visit in Summer 2009. Made him an offer.
* Cavs made Korver their #1 target in free agency in 2013.
* Landing Korver helps perfect a team that's been built for LeBron (shooters to surround LeBron).
* Korver is not a great defender, but he's a world-class shooter.
* Korver is one of the greatest shooters in the history of the NBA.
* The last I heard, Mo Williams will be part of the deal. But deal not finalized yet (could change).
* By freeing up a roster spot (with Mo gone), you then don't have to cut McRae to open up a roster spot.
* I would assume that with the open roster spot, the Cavs would add a backup point guard.
* Cavs actually reduced their payroll with the trade.
* HOST_1: Who is out there at point guard?
* Norris Cole? Maybe some other player becomes available in the next few weeks. I'm not sure.
* Maybe someone becomes available via a buyout.
* There will be players around the league who want to join the Cavs.
* Korver is still a starter-quality player, a guy who can be in the top 7-8 of your rotation.
* Cavs did very well in this trade.
* HOST_2: How does this change the match-up with the Warriors?
* Cavs will be extremely tough to guard.
* Cavs will have lineups that are extremely tough to defend.
* You can't leave JR, Love or Korver (on defense).
* Then you have LeBron and Kyrie. If you help on them, they'll find the open man.
* And Tristan Thompson. An excellent roll man and world-class offensive rebounder.
* Warriors may not be able to deploy best offensive lineups against Cavs because they have to focus on defending Cavs.
* Korver one of the best all-time as a spot-up, open three-point shooter.
* Korver will get many spot-up, open three-point shots playing with LeBron and Kyrie.
* HOST_1: How much will Lue experiment with lineups now?
* Lue can deploy different lineups or players depending on if he needs offense (JR, Korver) or defense (Shumpert).
* The way the league is going right now is offense, offense, offense.
* The personnel decisions the Cavs have made in the last year have been geared for offense.
* The Cavs are going to try to out-gun you on offense.
* The Cavs are likely to have a lot of success out-gunning most teams on offense.
* HOST_2: What do you think happens with Millsap?
* Will Raptors go for it? Nuggets, Pelicans, Kings all have the assets to entice the Hawks to give them Millsap.
* Word out there right now is that Raptors are not willing to make a big bid for Millsap. We'll see.
* We're a ways away from the finish line, but the current word is that Toronto isn't going to make a big play for Millsap.

I missed the last Hey Windy (yesterday), but he didn't say much that was new and it was before the trade.

Figured Cleveland radio would have him on today after the trade. Wanted to hear what he said, share his thoughts with the board, and particularly include the info that hopefully Mo WILL be gone in the deal.

One other thing from Windy. He said this the other day on one of his appearances.

* Scouts I talk to say Cavs not using Dunleavy the way the Bulls used him (so maybe Dunleavy not fully comfortable, etc.).

The point being that the Bulls apparently ran plays for Dunleavy and worked him off screens more than the Cavs were doing.

Hopefully Korver will "fit" better with what the Cavs do than Dunleavy did. I know the Hawks ran Korver off screens, but hopefully Korver is better as a "stand in the corner, catch-and-shoot" three-point shooter than Dunleavy was in his time here.

This is interesting, but is claiming more than is entirely true. We tried a lot early-on to run Dunleavy off screens. They were not the exact same types of looks he got in Chicago, nor at the same frequency, but we did have them. When Dunleavy played with JR on the bench he got most of these looks. The dilemma was Dunleavy was so slow that he would fall behind the play and thus kill the set.

My bet is those same plays get called for Korver and he will take advantage of them as well as the "stand in the corner and shoot threes" looks.
