Windy: Cavs reconstructing roster, predicts "full rebuild" (post #514)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Some of you saying "blow up" the team. Who are the vets?

Jamison
Moon
Parker
Shaq
West will be traded

Who else? Are you all calling Mo, Andy, Gibson vets?

The five players above are the only ones I want to get rid of. Why is that calling this "blow up" and starting over? We can have a good team adding good young players. A core of Andy, Mo, Gibson, JJ, Powe, Congo, Green, etc are some decent players to build around.

This talk of starting over is crazy stuff. I see five players we will be trading away. That's it unless we can get a good return for Mo.

This is what I was saying, but Grant was asleep at the wheel and almost all of the good players that fit our needs are now off the market.

Some have mentioned trading Varejao because he has the greatest value. By the time we can truly compete again, he wont exactly be a huge factor. His game is based on energy. He wont have as much in 3 years

We should keep Andy and JJ and everyone else is expendable. Only way we trade those 2 guys is if the offers are too good to be true.

I don't really want Marvin. He might improve, but I don't want to risk getting locked into that contract for any long period of time. It could easily be an albatross. If we can sign and trade him to the Hawks I'd prefer Teague and picks, but I doubt that they'd want to do that.

I rather take picks too, especially since I think Atlanta might not be a playoff team next year.

I'm fine with Marvin, I think he's a quality young role player. He played under a terrible head coach, that really didn't utilize his talents very well. If we still had Mike Brown I'd pass, but I think he could blossom under Scott.

His contract is a bit of a turn-off, but he's 24 and a talented player.

The only players I would try to hold on to are JJ and Eyenga.

1. First to go would be Jamison. He doesn't fit our team. He can't play SF and will take JJ minutes. I think we can at least get a 1st round pick for him.

2. Next guy I'd trade would be West for young talent or shitty contract and picks

3. Next is Mo for picks- Let Boobie and Telfair run point.

4. I'd hold on to parker and moon until the deadline, if you can't get young talent or picks just let them expire.

5. Trade Shaq if you can get anything for him. Even part of a TPE.

Mo, AV, and Jamison won't be here when were good again so why not let them compete for a team that has a shot.

I would also like a young PG if possible. Spearchucker and JJ are the core of the new Cavs.

I agree with you but it's painful to do so: getting rid of Jamison, Mo, West, etc is going to lead to us being pretty darn bad for probably at least 2 years before we can reconstruct the roster.

One guy I may quibble is with AV: he's still only 28 and other then JJ he's the only guy in the roster who has size and length on our current roster. Even JJ is on the shorter side for frontcourt post players. AV maybe with us for awhile just because of that

Re: Windy: Cavs reconstructing roster, predicts "full rebuild" on NBATV (post #514)

You're happy with a 5-8 seed and being bounce in the first or second round every year? Sorry, but I would prefer a rebuild with the aspirations of a top tier team, over a team submerged in mediocrity.

In all honesty, we were the 1 seed and got bounced in the 2nd round. What's the difference?

This would be my plan.. For what it is worth (not much)

1. Trade D West and future second round pick for Wilson Chandler

2. Trade Mo Williams and part of the TPE to Portland for Oden and first round pick.

3. S & T Shaq for Marvin Williams and future first round pick (lottery protected)

4. Sign Kyle Lowry and Qyntel Woods and hold your breath Allen Iverson (I think he would thrive in Byron Scotts offense)

5. Hold onto the remainder of the TPE and use it at the deadline along w Jamison and or AV in order to aquire a STAR player who could possibly become available (Paul, Anthony somebody of that ilk or someone like OJ Mayo)

You are looking at a lineup next year that would be young and exciting, yet lose enough that you get into the lottery and hopefully end up with Harrison Barnes, Kyrie Irving or Perry Jones.

PG: Iverson, Lowry, Telfair

SG: Chandler, Parker, Green,

SF: Jamison (Although I dont like him at SF at all), Moon, Woods

PF: Hickson, AV, Powe

C: Oden, AV, Kahn

This is a team that is both young and exciting yet has the ability to both get us in the lottery as well as provide flexibility at the deadline should a star player become available which seems to always be the case.

Just my thoughts.. Probably very unrealistic

1. Sadly, I agree. I love Jamison's game, but he should be more valuable to someone else.
2. What could we get for West at this point. Who is still looking to dump salary AND can give us something decent in return? HIGHLY DOUBTFUL that west is still with us next year.
3. Don't think Boobie can run the point.
4. Agree.
5. Agree.

What kind of value does AV have at this point too? His contract is reasonable, but no bargain. It is also only one year into the new deal.

I'm surprised that the official NBA YouTube channel has that video up...

But being bad is good:)

28 is old for a guy whose game revolves around energy and athleticism, as cavsguy said. He will be damn near useless by the time we actually compete again, and he'd give us the best return now. No reason to hold onto him IMO. If you want tall front court players sign them for the min or whatever. This team needs to compile as many young players/draft picks as they can and trading AV will play a big part in that. If we're a little undersized up front then yay, we'll get a better draft pick.
