A 6-4 210 lbs, freak of an athlete, drafted 25th overall in the 2006 draft, that we let go. No we never gave him a shot.

Towards the 5 final games of the season, Brown played for an average of 16.4 minutes. With those minutes, he averaged 7.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists. His shooting went up as well. With 13-24, Brown shot at 56.2%. That includes 5-6 from the 3-point line, a 3FG% of 83.3%. Additionally, in those games, he was the first to come off the bench.

Brown's increased playtime and game would carry on to the playoffs. In the opening game in the first round match up against the Jazz, Brown played 22 minutes despite only having 1 minute of playoff experience while he played for the Cavaliers. He scored 9 points - a flawless 3 of 3 behind the arc - dished 3 assists and grabbed 2 rebounds and 1 steal. He finished the series averaging 17.4 minutes, 7.2 points, 1.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1 steal per game.

I really like boobie but when i watch Brown run the lakers as a combo guard i feel like it was a big mistake that we traded away our 1st round pick. His size and skill could be a great asset to our team right now. We could of signed him to Terrence Kinseys contract. Boobie is a good kid but Shannon is outplaying him in all catagories includeing threes.

What are your views on shannon now? I know alot of you thought he was garbage and said good riddence when he was dealt. Would you rather have him over Kinsey right now, how bout boobie? I know that his TK and Boob bring great chemistry but Brown has some serious long term upside. What are RCF's thoughts on Shannon?

I'm not entirely convinced yet - he plays physical on defense but also gets lost. I think he would still drive Mike Brown crazy. He is shooting well on a team for the past month by playing alongside the starting squad with 4 other solid options (he's the guy that gets left open) or with an incredibly underperforming 2nd unit. Also, we wouldn't be talking about Brown at all if Fisher and Farmar were playing the way they were supposed to. He is like found money for them right now.

Trading him for a 10th or 11th guy on the Cavs bench now - sure, you could think about that. He's going to draw interest in the off-season since I believe he's in the last year of his contract (which may explain why he's finally playing better). And I'm not saying he couldn't help the Cavs.

But here's the big issue:

If the Cavs still had Shannon Brown, then they would not have been able to obtain Ben Wallace, Wally Szczerbiak, Joe Smith and Delonte West in the big trade last year. I wouldn't go back in time to reverse that deal just to keep Shannon Brown.

Hypotheticals are one thing but this dose of reality is too much for me to feel bad about losing him.

Not really. We already have the master of dribble off the foot. One is enough.

No we do not miss him, and he was given more than one chance through out to play here. He fits the Lakers system perfectly, and was the complete opposite for ours. He dribbled way to much created to many turn over’s and was completely lost on a team that was defense first.

With that said he has improved his game enough he did not get bumped out of the league, but you have to remember this guy couldn't even catch on and land a real job in Charlotte.

My thoughts exactly.

Shannon couldn't fit in with systems in Cleveland, Chicago, or Charlotte. He works very well in the Lakers system though, and like RonG said, it has also allowed him to improve his game as well.

Shannon needs to stay there as long as he can, and good for him.

Don't miss him really. He has more talent than Kinsey for sure but that doesn't mean he'd be successful in the type of system the Cavs run.

Think about it...The Cavs success is based on forcing their opponent into a half-court tempo. Shannon Brown's only success has come with a team that plays minimal defense and runs on the break quite often.

Just because a player is talented doesn't mean he fits with every team in the NBA.

If the game is being run like the YMCA rec-league, Shannon's your man.

But he wasn't suited for Cavalier regular season basketball (league's best ppg defense, 91.4 points per game), let alone Cavalier post season basketball (league's best ppg defense, 78.7 points per game). It shouldn't shock us as Cavalier fans, who saw Shannon torch defenders in summer league games, when the structure was loose and he was the man. However, throw him into a halfcourt game where you're expected to knock down shots despite low volume attempts and most importantly, you're expected to take care of the ball as possessions are limited. That led to, what many Cavs fans termed, his "deer in the headlights look."

What you're seeing Los Angeles do with Shannon is put him in and use him to push the break. He's finding good transition looks (wide open threes) and is getting out and running like his good ol' summer league days. However, once you see a team slow down the tempo and make Los Angeles play a half-court game, you will see just how un-versatile Mr. Brown is.

If you based a player's entire career off of a streak of 5 games, then you could make Shawn Bradley look like the greatest offensive post presence of all time and make Eric Snow look like an offensive juggernaut.

Plus IMO that's not really an insanely impressive streak anyways.

At this point he looks like the only thing that we lost that was worth anything. We got 4 solid players for him. I will never regret that, I might regret that the Lakers got him.

In the final five games of this season, Daniel Gibson averaged 12.6 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists on 25-50 (50%) shooting, including 11-25 (44%) from three. Now, with the exception of the final home game, Gibson was still relegated to his regular role, coming off the bench as the first shooter in must-win games. Phil "give me some ****ing credit" Jackson knew he wasn't catching the Cavs and tinkered around with his lineups.

Plus, as I mentioned earlier, you cannot compare stats in Los Angeles' inflated offense to stats on this team. Sure, Shannon fits well there in a fastbreak offense, but that doesn't mean he would've eventually worked out here. If anything, it means he wouldn't have. It's time for all of us to move on.

It's kinda weird that not only has Brown emerge this season, but that Gibson has fallen off (albeit injury seems to be a major reason). But once Gibson gets back to form, he'll be just as valuable to the Cavs.

If Shannon is starting to get a clue after getting kicked to the curb by 3 different coaches, great for him, but unfortunately sometimes the only way to get through to a player who's making millions and has had his ego fed since childhood is to dangle his livelihood in front of him.

No, he doesn't know how to play defense either...so totally wrong for our team

I personally think Gibson has out played him this year.

Honestly why don't you compare our final's run Boobie to the current Shannon Brown. Anyone in the NBA can string a few games toghther.
