Woj: Chris Grant fired (1-year anniversary)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I thought was Grant was a good GM but man did he stick a knife in his own back last year. Bennett and the Brown hiring killed him and he got deservedly fired for those two decisions (even if he did want to trade down Bennett was just the wrong pick and Brown he's got no excuses for). That being said he should get a second chance someplace else: his management of the cap and trading acumen was excellent. Just hire someone else to handle the draft.

Rehiring Mike Brown gets you a permanent ban from the NBA. That alone says that you are unfit to manage personnel, and may have just had a gigantic stroke causing half your brain cells to die off.

Anyone who makes that decision belongs not in a front office, but in the care of a neurologist.

A year later, I have really mixed feelings about Chris Grant.

Unfortunately for him, I think he had to go. The dysfunction of last year's team as of early February was not acceptable for an NBA team.

However, so many of the bad decisions, or decisions that didn't play out the way the Cavs hoped, were likely forced on him by ownership that it makes assigning blame difficult.

He did a good job of accumulating assets, which was a critically important part of his plan. His drafting and scouting/young player evaluation efforts were mediocre at best, despite all the time, energy, and effort he personally put into this.

Grant would never have gotten taken by Flip like Griffin did this summer. At the same time, Grant would have passed on Wiggins and Parker and would have reached for someone like McDermott in the last draft to show how smart he was.
Grant wasn't one reaching. That was Danny g

Oh god Grant... Well Ferry has his team a lock for the top seed and Gilbert managed to put something special back in Cleveland while Grant pretty much was forced into drafting Irving and then the Bynum, Deng, Clark, Bennett, and Jack mess that we all... You know what. Screw this moving on and what a difference a year makes.

He'll never get over that Bennett pick. Bad, just real real bad.

They could have Noel this year as an option for a big and still had the same record.
