WWE/NXT/AEW/NJPW Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The only thing that makes less sense than Goldberg having the title is Lesnar having the title, and that's exactly what will happen at Mania if they follow through their presumed Fastlane plans.

Eh...I think Lesnar makes more sense than Goldberg. Not a lot more sense, but at least Lesnar is still in his prime, capable of having good matches when motivated (not that he's been motivated for the past year or so, but still the capability is there at least), and likely to be around for at least another couple of years.

Goldberg, on the other hand, is fifty, can't and never could wrestle quality matches, and is likely to be done after 'Mania.

The downside to all of this is that they've used Goldberg to effectively neuter Lesnar. Lesnar was an unstoppable monster before, and having a young talent go over him at a big PPV could have made that young talent. Instead, Goldberg has handed him his ass twice now and made him look like a bitch, so now when he loses to someone else to give them the title it just won't mean as much.

I saw a comment elsewhere that the WWE is probably doing this whole thing solely so that they can say that the Universal Title has been held by the likes of Brock Lesnar and Goldberg, and that sounds about right. It's dumb and unnecessary and so probably exactly what is happening.

I'm not a casual fan at all but my work schedule has forced me to pick and choose what to watch when I'm finally home. With that said this Goldberg, Owens, Reigns stuff is not making me mad at all. Actually it's the only reason I actually take the effort to record RAW and fast forward watch it at all. For a couple weeks I was just Twitter watching and catching the last hour and if I missed something good so be it. Iv really enjoyed RAW since I started only watching about an hour of it.

Then it hit me......this is how casuals watch the show now. People aren't watching wrestling anymore because there are no characters that draw them to the TV. I don't like Vince's RAW formula but maybe there's something to it. People want more wrestling on RAW and I'm down for that. But if your trying to get back the millions of viewers you lost after the attitude era it ain't gonna start with having 5 star matches. It's gonna start with shit like the Nikki Bella, Natalya fued over on SDLIVE. It's gonna start with a guy like Braun wrecking havoc, throwing Christmas trees, talking like an 80s action movie character, Samoa Joe beating the shit out of people and cutting amazing promos like on RAW. Throw in some great matches for the ppl like us who actually love the wrestling part if professional wrestling but I don't think ppl should complain when the show is a little talk heavy. Because THATS how you get new viewers. Now we absolutely SHOULD complain about the shit writing. They are horrible. It's like they write so that no one ever gets too popular, on purpose

If you want to be the tortured hipster of your posse you Should throw your support behind Sami Zayn and Owens and constantly complain about how their talents are wasted on raw. For NXT you Will only watch the revival because "they are the perfect authentic throwback of all the great Classic tag teams of the 70's and 80's" even though you have never actually seen a match from that era.

On Mondays if your seriously just now starting to watch, Roman Reigns is your guy. He's a perfect guy to like for the first time fan. He's cool looking has cool moves and I'm sure he'll keep your wife interested lol

Come back and tell us when you finally get bored of Roman. Lol took me 2 years

to be serious the only guy worthy of Oi's fandom is James Ellsworth

If you seriously want to start watching wrestling, I'd just recommend skipping most of the WWE stuff and checking out NXT, their developmental program. It's way better than the regular WWE and their "PPV" specials (I put it in quotes because they aren't actually PPVs, as they air exclusively on the WWE Network) are always fantastic. The most recent one, Takeover: San Antonio, was a great show from top to bottom.

And while NXT is technically developmental, there are quite a few wrestlers working there who are well-known guys from other promotions like Bobby Roode, Eric Young, Austin Aries, and Shinsuke Nakamura.

As for where to start, check out NXT Takeover: Revolution. That's the show that got me back into wrestling. It features the NXT debut of Kevin Owens, who is currently the top champ on Raw, along with a fantastic title match between Sami Zayn and Adrian Neville. Zayn is currently on Raw as well, and Neville is the Cruiserweight Champion.

Here's a link to the entire main event between Zayn and Neville:

The Owens debut is less important, as it's just a three minute squash match to establish him, but he and Zayn have wrestled together around the world and are really good friends in real life. They've been teammates and rivals for the past decade, and that plays into the ending of the show. They feuded in NXT and went on to feud on the main roster, with their WWE match at Battleground last year being one of the best WWE matches of the year.

Kind of a side note, but Kevin Owens has a great and hilarious YouTube match against AJ Styles (currently one of the top WWE guys on Smackdown...he just dropped the main Smackdown title to John Cena at the Rumble a week ago).

Owens is the favorite of a lot of fans because he's a great worker. His matches are almost always entertaining, he's quick-witted and thus interacts well with the crowd and taunts his opponents in a funny manner, and can do a lot of things you wouldn't expect a guy who is built like him to be able to do. His WWE debut match against John Cena is still one of my favorite matches since I started watching wrestling again.

If you just want to check out some great wrestling, look into the Cruiserweight Classic that the WWE put on last summer, along with the UK Championship tournament they put on last month. Both feature some great matches and are treated much more like sporting events than the average WWE show.

Some other matches to check out:
  • Sami Zayn vs. Shinsuke Nakamura from NXT Takeover: Dallas.
  • AJ Styles vs. John Cena from Summerslam 2016.
  • The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler from No Mercy 2016.
  • DIY vs. The Revival from NXT Takeover: Toronto.
  • Bayley vs. Sasha Banks from NXT Takeover: Brooklyn
  • Kevin Owens vs. Adrian Neville from some random NXT weekly show in 2015.
Could probably think of others too, but those are all fantastic matches.

You're a Jack gallagher guy Jigo.. He'll never compete for a major title but he's your guy

This entire Rollins knee injury is a work..

HHH claims Rollins couldn't handle the pressure of being the face of the company and it all caved in just like his knee did?

Then minutes later, Samoa Joe injuries the same knee??

It's all too ironic and far fetched. It's actually great story telling though and totally unexpected because creative is so stupid

I knew a guy named Jack Gallagher in college. He fucked a girl in the ass and she pooped on his penis.

You might be right, but it'd also be the first time as far as I know that they sent a guy to their actual knee specialist for a work.

Walton is right about Jack Gallagher, by the way. He's quickly becoming a fan favorite of everyone and is a lot of fun to watch. His CWC match versus Akira Tozawa was one of my favorites from that tournament.
