Bucks Sign Yi Jianlian To Multi-Year Contract

Bucks.com - 08/29 - 6:27 AM EST

The Milwaukee Bucks announced on Wednesday that 2007 first round draft pick Yi Jianlian has signed a multi-year contract. The Bucks 6th overall selection in the 2007 NBA Draft, Yi Jianlian signed his contract in Hong Kong following a negotiating session with Mr. Chen Haitao, owner of the Guangdong Tigers.

Bucks owner and team president Senator Herb Kohl, General Manager Larry Harris and Bucks Vice President Ron Walter were able to meet with Mr. Chen, as well as Yi and his family, as part of the process.

Yi Jianlian is expected to join the team for training camp that begins on Monday, October 1 at the Bucks Training Center in St. Francis, WI.

“There has been a genuine excitement throughout our city and state, as well as internationally, following our selection of Yi in the NBA Draft,” said Senator Herb Kohl. “We all anticipate Yi’s arrival and welcome him and his family to Milwaukee. We look forward to a successful relationship for many years to come.”

“We would be remiss if we didn’t acknowledge and thank Mr. Chen for his assistance and support in the negotiating process,” Kohl added.

“We were thrilled to be able to draft Yi Jianlian in June and are equally excited to sign him to a NBA contract as a member of the Milwaukee Bucks ,” said Harris. “We drafted Yi with the expectation that he would be a part of our franchise for a very long time and this is the first step in that process. Yi is a skilled and versatile young man who we have seen play numerous times over the last few years including this summer in the NBA Summer League. Our players and coaches look forward to working with Yi and I know our fans will enjoy watching him compete with the many talented, young players on our roster.”

NBA Commissioner David J. Stern commented, “We are happy that Yi will be playing with the Bucks to further develop his skill and his contribution to both the Chinese National Team and the NBA. This is another great example of cooperation between the CBA and the NBA and I want to congratulate the CBA, Mr. Chen, the Guangdong Tigers and the Milwaukee Bucks .”

The funny thing is I saw this while I was working and laughed....And the Bucks will pick in the top ten next year.

Now watch him bust and this whole thing was pointless.

He doesn't look to excited in that picture. :chuckles:

The guy will be an allstar.

Since I don't think the Bucks young frontcourt is seasoned enough to challenge for the Eastern crown, I wouldn't mind the team going into the lottery one more year. The obvious selection would be Derek Rose, but a realistic option that would complete this young frontcourt would be Roy Hibbert. I'd love to add him to the current Bucks. He's the big bodied defender that this team is missing.

Yi is a legit 7-0, athletic and can block shots. However, a space eater like Hibbert would make things easier for everyone on the Bucks.

Just like how the Brewers will be sporting the best record in baseball? :chuckles:

The Crew has the best record in ALL of baseball. That won't change since they also have the best pitching staff in baseball.

Keep it coming with those predictions though...

Take comfort in knowing that Cleveland's 2007 first round pick will not bust. :chuckles:

When we are still playing basketball next June I'll take comfort in the fact that you and the Bucks franchise pinned your hopes on this stiff.

Hmmmm...let's evaluate, shall we...

Records: Milwaukee 66-66 .500...well, there appears to be 16 teams in ALL of baseball better than the Brewers .500 record. The Boston Red Sox have the best record at 80-53. There are 30 games remaining in the season for the Brew Crew, and 29 for the Sox. If the Brewers win all 30 of their remaining games, they will have 96 wins. Meanwhile, if the Red Sox win 16 of their final 29, they will have 96 wins to tie the Brewers for best record...I think I'll put my money on the MIL not having the best record.

Pitching staff: Milwaukee 132 G 4.55 ERA 66W 66L...well, wait a minute...this is 9th in the National League. The Indians, as a comparison, 132 G 4.21 ERA 75W 57L...This is sixth in the AL. Well, that means that there are 8 teams in the AL and 8 teams in the NL with a better pitching staff than the Brewers, including the KC Royals, 131 G 4.46 ERA 59W 72L, whose record is a product of the competition (AL Central), where they would be more in line with the Brewers, if they were in the NL Central. Heck, the Crew's pitching is even worse than the Yankees, 133 G 4.54 ERA 74W 59L.

So, to recap...the Brewers are, at best, 17th best team in ALL of baseball, according to record, and the 17th best in team pitching.

That looks more like mediocrity to me than an elite team. Congatulations, you are the Kansas City Chiefs of MLB.

Why draft another big man?You have Bogut,he is so great at basketball.Man I want to be like him.

The funny thing is the Bucks GM had to promise that he would get "significant" playing time this year to get the deal finished. Classic...

Yep if I am a Bucks fan, I already have www.nbadraft.net bookmarked for next year.

Here's some things I think we can all take comfort in..

In the 2 1/2 years that I have known TJ, virtually zero of his claims come to fruition...He very rarely gets it right.. :chuckles: My buddy talks a big game every where he goes, but his teams/players never seem to hold up their end of the bargain....

It's pretty much a given that Yi will be a marginal player at best, and will severely underachieve beyond comprehension... It's just an inevitable fact of Milwaukee Sports...

The Bucks (just like the Crew currently) will find away to F*** it up in the end like they ALWAYS do... There's no need for guarantees, or sayings such as: "book it"-- because we all know what is going to happen...

The Ben Sheets prolonged injury doomed the pitching staff. The guy is the team's leader from the bump. First game back (no rehab mind you) and he goes into Chicago and outduels Carlos Zambrano.

As goes Sheets, as go the Brewers.

He's back now so let's see what happens.

A good ballclub doesn't rely on just 1 player though. Nobody else stepped up whatsoever...not good.
