Anyone arguing to pickup the option on Grady is high as a kite. The guy is done, he cannot stay healthy and nothing indicates he will as the injuries keep piling up. Cut your losses....9 mill for a guy struggling to play 1/3rd of a season with diminished numbers? No no no...

Let he and Carmona go and get a bat and another starting pitcher.

People who think it's just that simple to replace these guys will be so disappointed.

I don't know how much you trust a guy hitting roughly 200 points higher than his career OPS in one of the best hitting environments in baseball....but I don't trust him at all really.

Not for the 10M plus he'd probably get open market wise.
But you'd rather stick with Sizemore at the same price.. Napoli cut down his strikeouts, he takes walks and he's always had power.

Napoli being behind the plate could allow Santana to not be back there destroying his knees. Napoli's also only 29.

I'd honestly rather have Napoli than an injury-decimated Grady Sizemore. I have the feeling Grady probably has a comeback year in him, but I think it's going to take two more years before he has it.

the only way they pick up Grady's option is if they restructure it...especially if he has to have yet another surgery. No way do we pick up the $9 option with his fucked up knees.

With Fausto I agree. The pitching FA options are bleak at best.

Having said all that, if I'm the Dolans, and I want to really make a statement to my team and my fans, I would go (and get) hard after Price Fielder. I've always sided with the Dolans in regards to how they have operated (slash $ overseas and the draft). However, if we have this 2-4 year window, they should really spare no expense & go all in. Getting a player like Fielder would certainly prove just that. He would obviously play 1B but could spell at the DH spot when Hafner gets injured/needs rest.

Honestly I think he's donezo. 3 knee surgeries in what 2-3 years? He's a walking calamity.

Napoli plays some first as well, so they could basically split time between catcher/first. He's right handed, could go in the middle of the lineup, basically a perfect fit for what we need, but then again I seriously doubt the Indians spend that much money in FA.

It could just be me but I'd rather have a 2nd round pick (he'd be a Type B FA) than re-work/re-sign Fukudome's. I know he's been pretty solid for us but in reality he's a 4th OF at this point in his career (some may argue he's always been a 4th OF).

Napoli doesn't look like he catch anymore, but he's been OK I guess. Long term? Prob not.

I wouldn't rather pay grady, I just think people think it will be easy to replace his production if he were.

This offense struggled big time without him, and they NEED him...Which is why this sucks.

Thinking you can just go out and pick up whoever and think it's going to be better than a healthy Sizemore, probably going to end up disappointed.

I like Napoli but are we ready to give up on Santana catching?

Also, you cannot pay Grady $9 and have him rot on the bench/DL list. I was all for picking up his option just 6 weeks ago, but the fact that he will more than likely have to have another surgery pretty much ceils his fate. If we can restructure? Fine. Of course, in typical Cleveland fashion, the guy we won't re-sign because of injuries will bounce back and never get injured again

They aren't going to pick up the option with any sort of worries about the other knee long term.

But let's be real here, this is a terrible blow to the organization. They needed Sizemore, they invested a ton of money in him and he had a ton of unfortunate luck with injuries.

Not a ton of viable options out there, and even less who want to come play in Cleveland.

Actually, it isn't a terrible blow at all, because he has been worthless the last 3 years, so this is just the norm... Now they can actually address the need of an outfielder, instead of depending on an injury prone Sizemore.

There is also this thing called a trade.. They can happen.
