With all of this offseason nonsense talk, I figured a lighter thread looking back at the past could serve a purpose. So, please feel free to share your all-time favorite Cavs games that you were in attendance for. You can also throw in a little story with it, too.
3. 2006 Playoffs, Game 1 vs. Washington Wizards
The team's first playoff game in nine years and LeBron James' first ever playoff game. The energy was crazy entering the building. The workers at the gate were passing out the now-famous Witness t-shirts along with rally towels. I was extremely nervous until I realized that in the most hyped game of his career, LeBron showed not intentions of going home a loser. He dominated from the opening tip, scoring 32 points to complement his 11 boards and 11 assists, becoming the first player since Magic Johnson in 1980 to record a triple double in his first playoff game. The place was rocking and I finally got to attend my first playoff game
2. 2007 Playoffs, Game 4 vs. Detroit Pistons.
After going down 0-2 to the Pistons in the playoffs for the second straight year, I told myself I wouldn't bother spending money on tickets unless the Cavs won game three. Well, after a solid performance there, I made sure to get my seats and witness a game that was not only exciting at the time, but was the precursor to one of the greatest playoff performances ever. Game four was a hard fought win for the Cavaliers that only saw them win by four points. LeBron had 25 points and 11 assists as he geared up to drop 48 on the Pistons in the following game. Excitement was everywhere and everyone was thinking Finals after this night.
1. 2006-07 Regular Season vs. Boston Celtics.
Okay, so two exciting playoff games, but my favorite game was a regular season game versus the then-weak Celtics? Well, I'll never forget this game.
I went to the game with one of my best friends from school, who happens to be a huge Celtics fan (yeah, this would come back to bite me in the ass the following season). So I bought some sweet club-level seats for this early regular season game, hoping I could rub it in his face that whole week. The Cavs had other plans, though, as they lost the first quarter by 15 points. He was smiling the whole time while I was grinding my teeth watching Drew Gooden and Larry Hughes ruin my night.
The Cavs continued the shit play as they entered the fourth quarter down 16 points. One and a half minutes in, the Celtics scored the only three points of the quarter and increased their lead to 19. My friend was clapping in my face and the family in front of us got up and left (which pissed me off since I never leave a game early, especially not with seats like this, but the joke was on them that night).
Then, things started to change. LeBron was attacking the hoop, converting and-1's, drawing fouls, making plays. Sasha Pavlovic was hitting bigtime jumpers and three pointers. My friend would later tell me that when Sasha hit his second three of the quarter to pull the Cavs within one with four minutes to go that he knew it was over (and he swears to this day that Sasha is a good NBA player :chuckles. The Cavs stormed back to take a lead, although they left the door open and Paul Pierce almost hit a half court shot in the final seconds to steal the game back. I enjoyed the drive back home with complete silence while my friend had to hear my countless jabs at nearly every mile marker on 480.
So there you go, definitely my top three favorite games I was ever able to witness. I did have a nice streak of 10 straight wins over the last four years, until the Magic ruined it in game one of the ECF (a game I considered putting on here with LeBron's career high 49 points, but I was only including wins). I did start a new streak with game five, though, so hopefully I can start another trend and have a few games crack my top 3.
