As far as the bandwagon fans go, I really don't care. I think it's a sign that your team has "made it."
I whole-heartedly agree with this statement. Plus, I'd rather have people rooting for the Cavs than having idiots question whether or not LeBron will stay with us. When you go around the country and ask about the Cavs, you either get "Damn, they're unstoppable!" or "They'll suck after LeBron leaves." I don't know about you, but I prefer the former.

Plus, once we rack up our fourth or fifth championship by 2013, it won't hurt being known as "America's Team." Doesn't every fan want that kind of exposure for their team?

I dont know what to think about bandwagon fans, and fans on here who only started to watch because of LeBron. Im not going to lie and say i watched the Old cavaliers religiously, but i watched them. Lets say when LeBron retired a cav in 25 years after winning 27 championships ( In the future we played 2 seasons in one for one year) where will they be when we suck?

Question for the 23-27 year olds on here

When you were growing up, were you a Cavs fan? I grew up in the Cleveland area and EVERYONE was a Bulls fan because of Jordan. That was like part of being a kid in the 90's- you loved watching Michael Jordan. I mean I went to Cavs games, and watched them on TV- but I didn't have a poster of Chris Mills or Bob Sura on my wall.

While I didn't grow up in Cleveland, I was a Cavs fan. I hated Jordan and everything to do with Jordan. And I always rocked the Mark Price poster kthx.

I am 28

I grew up a Cavs, Indians, and Browns fan. When the Browns left I refused to watch football. I missed it so much I went back in 1999. I haven't watched baseball regularly since the strike in 1994.

Anything else would be blasphemy

I don't mind people cheering for the cavs, but I hate them people who cheer just because they are winning. I personnally think you should have had to live through Jordans shot over Craig Ehlo, or seen, the one yard line fumble by Byner in 88, or in 97 mesa blew the save in game 7 giving the world series to the Marlins. I still think Hargrove should have left Jackson in for the 9th.

Death to Elway, the Marlins team, and Hargrove for good measure.

I welcome them with open arms. It feels good.

It's ironic. I hate bandwagon fans of teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, Patriots, etc...it was so cheap. But now that one of my teams is finally good enough to warrant bandwagon fans, I welcome them.

Weird.

It's because there's nothing worse than bandwagoning a team with a highly successful history -- like the Lakers, who've only missed the playoffs five times in their entire existence. You're trying to be a loyal fan without any of the suffering. It's cheating, really.

On the other hand, there's nothing wrong with appreciating a little temporary greatness, as long as you're honest about it

I agree, I was definitely in the minority when Jordan showed up. Jordan fans were everywhere. I admired him early on, hated him from 89, and by 92 I completely despised him. (I'm in the minority, but 89 did not feel like "our year", it was still a stretch to win in the playoffs as we had the Bad Boys and Magic Show still around, In 92 the only thing that could have possibly stopped that team did). I was very vocal and quick to dismiss anything Jordan did. I'm quite certain I sounded like an idiot, coming up with excuses for why MJ was a ballhog and completely overrated (the same nonsense we dismiss from Lebron-haters now). Anytime the Cavs beat the Bulls it always came out after the game that MJ had the flu, or was secretly injured. I felt no remorse when his dad died and cheered when he retired. I'm not sure I've grown up enough...there's still a wiggle of doubt that I'd hit him with my car (a cav, of course) if he crossed the street in front of me. It's sad that so much of those years was spent hating other teams and players more than actually enjoying my team. I loved the Cavs/Indians/Browns but my derision for Elway, Jordan, the Yankees, and Modell was soul-consuming.

You need bandwagon fans a little more when you don't live in as big a city, like Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago or the like. But considering that this town is pretty loyal to its sports teams, it's not it'll kill the fanbase off completely. But this is a Football town, so in the Cavs' case, bandwagon is ok.

It makes the Cavs look respectable, gives them elite status, and let's them get away with some of same shit that those other towns always get. Just ask San Antonio about that. And this town doesn't share some of the same traits as those towns (the negative ones), so it's not like it's a big deal to follow a team with some more respectable fans.

I say let bandwagon fans on, but call 'em out when they're wrong. They just give the team more backbone and respect, something we the real cavs fans have wanted for many years.

I've grown up a Clevelander. I've been a fan since 1995 (since I can't remember much before then), and have always followed them, throughout the late 90s, early 2000s, and when LeBron came here. I'll be a Cavalier fan for the rest of my life. It doesn't hurt to have some more than aren't Cavs fans first...

What, are you serious? I can't believe this. I'm 27, born and raised on the westside CLE, and everyone I knew hated the bulls and Jordan. We rooted for anybody besides Jordan, the Ewing Knicks, Drexler's Blazers, and even the Jazz.

Even though the Cavs were boring as hell in the Fratello era, we all were still big fans.
I can remember being so damn excited the Cavs landed Shawn Kemp, was excited when we drafted both big Z and big Vitaly Potapenko in the same draft, and the list goes on and on.

I do admit I had a Charlotte Hornets Starter Jacket in the mid 90's....but that's because the Cavs Colors were so ugly. And no I didn't have any Bob Sura jerseys...but I did have a Bobby Phills one.

I am annoyed at all the Bandwagon fans...every status on facebook kisses the Cavs ass on game-days. But Cleveland is desperate for a winner and thats how it goes. And, I live in LA so I'm usually defending the Cavs to Lakers fans who have piss poor general NBA knowledge.

They should be subjected to 100 hours of game tape of Larry Hughes and Drew Gooden clips before we grant them entry into our club.

Its weird for me, I was a Bulls fan cause I liked Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman, I always thought Pippen was under appreciated, and I loved how Rodman just did the dirty work all game, occasionally he'd pop up a 3 and send the crowd in a frenzy throwing his body around for a rebound...stuff you don't see alot. I didn't like Jordan, I still don't honestly lol, my biggest memory of Jordan is him chewing out Bill Wennington cause Bill went to set a screen for him and Jordan didn't like that...KISS MY GRITS MICHAEL! I like alot of people thought when LeBron was still in HS that he would get a rude awakening when he came into the league...boy was I surprised, I thought he'd be an ok player, but not a DOMINATE one. So while Ben (thats my boy!") was racking up Defensive Player of the Year trophies, I was checking out LBJ...imagine how I felt when they announced Ben was coming to Cleveland! :D

Dunno if that makes me a bandwagon jumper, but really I don't care. lol

I'm not going to read all the posts, but I say welcome them all. The more people at the Q cheering on the Cavs the better. Who cares when they became fans?
