I'm very curious to see where fans sit regarding Jamison's role this upcoming season, assuming he's still with the team. So I decided to add a little poll here and wanted to hear some opinions.

And of course, here's my contributory propaganda... http://www.numbersdont.com/?p=2815

Great write up cam.

If we keep him, excited to see him in full form. Yeah, Jamison or Mo as your primary scoring options is not a forumla for title success, but the way in which Jamison was simply treat as a garbage man last season after everyone clamored for a "stretch four" did no wonders for Jamisons game. It looks like he'll be our scoring 6th man off the bench if kept, and thats the perfect role for him in this rebuilding effort. Playing 30 mins a game I have no doubt that guy will average about 20ppg and 8 rpg.

Best case scenario? The guy plays his heart out and shows the young guys how it's done...with determination, hustle, and heart. A contender see's his hard play and decides to roll the dice. It results in us getting some great assets to rebuild with and Jamison goes on to win a title.

Worst case scenario? The guy plays his heart out and shows the young guys how it's done...with determination, hustle, and heart.

Win-win :D

And also.... not going to lie....I'm excited to see Jamison run some flip shots past that weak defensive front line of Bosh/Z :chuckles:

I think we should trade him and get whatever we can for him. Try to send him to a contender because he's a great guy. Let JJ play 35 mins/game at the PF.

I would like to see Tawn be our 6th man, come in and either play the 3 or the 4. He should play starter minutes and should be a good team leader along with Mo. On offense he can play the 3 and the 4 and on defense he can play neither, so that is why it would be best to bring him off the bench, which it looks like Byron Scott will do anyway.

We should trade him at the deadline this year if things are going really bad for this team or trade him in the off season next year. Any contending team would love his contribution and the expiring contract, so we could get young talent and/or a pick for him if he has a good year.

I wouldn't trade him and blow up the team right now only because of the season ticket holders that renewed for this year. Give it one last run with these guys, our first round series against the Heat, Celtics or the Magic that will be our championship. If we beat one of them, this city will be going crazy and that will be good enough for me considering the circumstance. Then blow it up after this year.

Developing J.J. and getting Jamison on the floor will not be mutually exclusive. Right now, J.J. is our backup center as well as starting power forward.

We built the team around the style of play #6 brought to the table, but now we are stuck with only two players who can create their own scoring opportunities in Jamison and Mo. Until the roster changes further, we need what Jamison brings to the table offensively.

Eventually, I see Jamison being traded to a contender. Until that time, he is going to be a big part of the offense from both forward positions.

Unless we're getting a couple 1sts, I don't know why we'd trade him. He's still expiring when the rest of the team does, so he's not a killer contract.

Right now, he's the best offense player on the team, and a mismatch for most PFs. Love to see him be the "main" guy, unless he doesn't want the pressure of having to score 30 a night.

so we can get SOMETHING instead of letting him go to waste? and there's no way in hell we're getting multiple 1sts, btw.

I see no reason to keep him past this deadline. We're going nowhere and he is one of the few players left on the team that may be able to get an OK return. He won't be able to net anything of value next year as an expiring, so might as well move him sometime in the next ~6 months.

Hopefully he manages to at least stay healthy though so his value doesn't go down even further. That's what I'm worried about.

I want to either hold on to Tawn so he can mentor our young big man, or trade him for a young player.

I understand the sentiment of keeping Jamison and trying to make a push for the 8th playoff seed, and I'm sure that's what Gilbert will likely try to do, but that's the wrong thing to be doing..

If I had any say in it, I'd ship Jamison out and just let the young guys play and carry this team to a 20-win season..

I understand Gilbert has ticketholders to please but the longer we hold onto Jamison, Varejao, Mo, etc., the longer it's going to take for this team to be rebuilt and back competing again...

If Jamison does stay on the team, then him playing a super-6th man role is fine by me... The problem is that, at this point in his career, he's almost strictly a 4-man and really doesn't have too much business playing the 3... And with JJ at the 4 right now and likely to eat up a good chunk of the minutes, that should just make it easier to trade Jamison..

It's ultimately doing the team a disservice to try and compete and just further push back the rebuilding, as well as Jamison to try and keep him around to be a 6th man on a 30-win team when he should be trying to compete for a ring..

I'd be weary of hanging onto him past the deadline because of the looming lockout and new CBA and who knows what that could bring... The sooner they ship him out, the better for both Jamison and the Cavs...

That's my biggest concern, too. If Jamison can fetch some valuable assets before the trade deadline this year, the Cavs have to jump at that deal. The predicted lockout in 2011-2012 will be bad enough without the possibility of watching Jamison's $15M contract run out that year without the Cavs being able to get anything in return. I suppose getting the $15M of cap space won't hurt, but if a better deal turns up this year, they can't afford to wait. Short-term pain, possible long-term gain.

I do think he will be helpful for as long as he's around as a team leader/mentor/etc.

Very important distinction, Smooth.

A lot of my opinion on Jamison has to do with what the front office ultimately does. If they pursue a full rebuild, which seems necessary, then I'm on board with the MYoung style of thinking that Jamison is one of the more valuable veterans to trade alongside Varejao and Mo.

However, if the front office continues to back up their promise that they want to win now, I want to see Jamison become a focal point of the offense. I want to see him get the majority of the team's shots, even if he's coming off of the bench, which I fully expect. In the end, this is what I expect will happen.

i dont think its fair to keep him on a rebuilding team. Hopefully a deal can be reached at the deadline for some picks and expiring contracts.

i like watching the guy play but he's served his time at the basement with washington already

Tawn deserves to play for a winning team. It's a damned shame that LBJ went out the way he did and left guys like Jamison here in the dust.

I hope we trade him to the first good team that makes us a reasonable offer for him. I'm not looking for much.....either give us an expiring and a late first round pick or give us a non-expiring and a couple of first/second round picks.

I'd actually probably prefer the latter.

Twan is one of the classiest guys in the league. He deserves to win, plain and simple.

I think we should trade him and try to get a pick and a young prospect out of him (little more than what the Wizard's got ;) ) .
